Sunday Selections

Sunday Selections, brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, is an ongoing theme where participants post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Anyone can join in, just post your photos under the Sunday Selections title, link back to Kim, then add your name to her Linky list at Frogpondsrock.

This week I thought I would post photos of some of my obsessions, ie cats, gardening and birds.

  1. I always like your Sunday selections. Cats, plants and flowers--just about sums up the best things in life.

Although it is a bit strange to be thinking about Sunday--it's still Saturday afternoon in this part of the world.

  2. Like paper chipmunk, cats, flowers and birds are some of the very best things in life.

Love the amount of birds you have come to visit.

  3. I love the camellias!
And those parrots, if it weren't for the red patches they'd be very hard to spot in trees o longer grass.

  4. The king parrots camoflague themselves astonishly well in the camellia bushes. And then proceed to tear the blooms apart. It is a shame that some of my obsessions destroy (or would like to destroy) other obsessions. Cats kill birds, and kill the garden too. Birds destroy garden, crap (truly) on cats. Garden takes over wallet allowing no money for feeding of cats or birds.

  5. In the photo of the King Parrots is that an animal crawling up the tree trunk just above the King Parrot taking flight? :-).

  6. Hi Windsmoke: Fortunately it is a piece of bark curling away from the tree. If you click on the photo it enlarges so you can see I am not telling fibs. This is not to say that the cats wouldn't love a king parrot or two. Much to their displeasure (and our joy) it hasn't happened.

  8. Your photo of the hyacinth reminds me that I planted out a lovely purple one in the kitchen garden and I think it is being swamped by the spearmint, that I should never have planted there at all. I love all bulbs and have heaps of daffodils here that I have planted over the past twenty or so years. The camellias are very pretty too. Thanks for the photos, I have been in town all day and it is nice to come home and sit and look at your photos. cheers KIm

  9. I love the cat one peeking from behind the flowers. They are all lovely, though, and grace my morning with beauty. Thank you, and have a happy Independence Day, even if you don't have an official one in your part of the world! :-)

  10. Lovely photos. Must be a bit of an effort to keep the peace between the species, at times.

  11. Goodness, how pretty all of them are, although I like the pink camellia (third from top) best.

  12. Oh, wow, you have to visit my new house, which I've dubbed Camellia Palace. The last owner just adored camellias, and every morning when I open the bedroom curtains I have another curtain of pink & white & green outside with wattle-birds teasing the cats through the window. Glorious!

  13. Loved "Cat with Flowers" - was there ever a face so full of suspended mischief? And not a little vanity...

  14. all the parrot types just love camellia buds and look so cute holding them in a claw, then throwing the bud with a bite out of it to the ground. I don't know why they don't eat it all.
The double daff is a beauty too. Thanks for brightening up this vile dreary weather day in Victoria.

  16. What a colorful post full of eye candy! Those flowers are all just deliciously beautiful! I especially love the peachy-pink Camellia and the other pink flower - is that a rose, or a begonia? Whatever it is, it's especially luscious. You sure have an impressively green thumb!

So that is the villainous Jazz ~ the one who shredded your friend's original birthday orchid, the one you described as "evil personified" in your introductory post ~ posing so prettily and innocently among the daffodils, eh? :-) Both Jazz and Jewell are really gorgeous cats. so sleek and glossy!

And again with the splendid birds! At first I thought those white birds were large doves or white pigeons, but I clicked on the photo for a larger view and saw that they are white parrots, which I'd never heard of! They're very elegant looking, what are they called? The King Parrots are so pretty, they remind me of Conyers. Have you ever read the book or seen the film, "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill?"

Thanks for another fun glimpse into your lush and dazzling corner of the world!

  17. Laloofah: The White birds in that shot are Corellas - they have a blue tinge around their eyes and flock to our lawn and the feeder in big numbers. There is a close up of one on the header. There is also a long beaked variety which, like many of the birds we feed is particularly fond of green apple. Both the pink blooms were/are camellias. They thrive here. And I loved the book 'The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill'. Devoured it.

  18. Oh wow, I didn't even recognize the bird in your header as being the same species as the ones feeding on the ground! He looks so different with that crest up (and all that badass attitude!), I thought that was a Cockatiel. Clearly I don't know my tropical birds any more than I know my camellias. But I intend to hang around and learn!

I've seen the movie but haven't read the book. I would've recommended it if you hadn't devoured it already! :-)
