Sunday Selections #823

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  It is definitely winter here now.  I am enjoying our cool and lightly frosty mornings and hoping that we get cold enough to freeze bubbles this year.

However I am also looking forward to Spring.  When I am well enough I am gardening up a storm, weeding and in conjunction with himself planting (he doesn't weed).

Each month Charlotte (MotherOwl) gives us a colour of the month.  This month in honour of her yellow irises survivng the drought in her Frog pond, the colour of June is "Surviving Iris Yellow"

There are lots more to plant too, but we are starting with the ones that are shooting.

Come Spring I hope to have blazes of yellow again.  Like these.

Whatever season you are in, I hope you are enjoying it.

  3. Laura Eno - I think you’re probably the bulb company’s best customer! The effort you put into your yard is spectacular though, and wonderful for the wildlife… when they don’t vandalize it.
The frost made me shiver but I’m happy it arrived for you. Glorious photos of the sky as well.
Hoping for a sane and peaceful week ahead for both of us. Hugs to you always.

    1. Laura Eno: Sane and peaceful sounds good but probably not a happening thing. More doctor visits to arrange. The bulb companies undoubtedly love us. Both of us because himself cannot resist garden porn catalogues either. Hugs.

  5. Acabant gairebé la nostra primavera, aquest any ha estat molt plujosa i per tant tota la floració és preciosa, com les fotos que ens mostres. Aquest món gotes també m'agraden molt.

  8. What lovely "frosty" photos! And hooray for spring bulbs, too! Even though we're experiencing our first hot days of summer now, I can still get excited about next year's daffodils. :-)

  10. That's wheely sad that himself doesn't weed.

    1. Mike: He would weed if I would allow him to poison. I won't. The birds and the critters (not to mention other things in the garden) have a right to survive.

  11. The cloud formations tell me the air is very cold. I heard you had some below zero temperatures and wondered if there would be ice bubbles soon.
155 bulbs...my back is hurting just thinking about the planting.

    1. Andrew: The air is indeed chilly. It needs to get colder yet before the bubbles happen though. I am hopeful.
There are many, many more bulbs to plant. I think himself planted 200 on Friday.

  15. So many bulbs! I wonder that you have any space at all to squeeze in more every year. They are beautiful, so well worth the effort. I love seeing your frosty plants while being glad I don't have frost where I am.

    1. River: We lose some bulbs in summer each year and the smaller bulbs don't take up much room. Joanne Noragon always said the aim was to plant so many that the weeds had no room. I wish. How I wish. And I miss her posts.

  19. Hi EC - oh so wonderful you're in the cold! Just glad it's not that much colder here ... we're still under 20 (at the coast, mind you) ... but honestly ... it is the cricket and tennis season - so obviously must have rain too! Lovely you're planting more bulbs - always gorgeous. Poor weeds ... but we'd prefer they weren't there - still they grab the space while they can??!! Cheers and enjoy the wintery weather ... Hilary

  23. I popped in to visit you before taking my dog out, it almost 1am and your first photographs made me actually shiver! It's pretty cold here as the heater has been off for a couple of hours. Anyways, beautiful shots as always EC, thank you

    1. Kim: You would need to rug up well to take your dog out at that time here. It would often be in the negative temperature zone though if a dog has to go, it has to go.

Some beautiful frost and sky photos. Even in winter, there are things to enjoy. It is always exciting to be planting bulbs and thinking of all the beautiful colour they will provide in Spring.

  27. I love - LOVE - your frost photos because I'm rarely up early enough to see frost here (or, if I'm up, it's because I have to go somewhere and I'm in a rush). Also, our frosts are usually killer frosts, and the leaves and blossoms are ruined after one event. I do hope you eventually get some frozen bubble weather. In the meantime, we are having an unusually cool spring but with lots of rain so everything is green and growing fast. Wishing you a week with enough energy and good weather that you can get some or all of those bulbs planted. Take care, dear friend.

    1. jenny_o: I hope to get the bulbs in this week too - or some of them at least. There are still rather a lot. And weeding to do to make space for them.
I love frost flowers and often wander round with the camera. Himself doesn't see it until later in the year when we still have frosts around 11am. Or later.

  33. So gorgeous! Every time I see a frost-covered plant, I'm reminded of a movie my friend's daughter once persuaded me to watch. It had magic, fairies, and four seasons coexisting side-by-side, and we thoroughly enjoyed it!

  43. I can't wait to see your upcoming frozen bubbles. Yours was the first place I ever saw them (I'm pretty sure though not 100%). I did manage the last day of cold here to snag a few shots. My gosh it was sooooooo fun. So fun. Thank you.

  44. That is a lot of bulbs that you are going to plant, and you said there are lots more. It looks like a lot of word. For some weird reason I don't enjoy planting plants (which doesn't prevent me from still doing it), but I sure enjoy the color that I can see in spring coming from all these bulbs. The yellow of the daffodils is such a happy color! I like the pictures with the plant and the frost on them - that is so pretty. I hope that you can freeze bubbles again and we will see it here.

  45. I just read my comment (I should really do that before hitting "publish") and see some mistakes - "word" should read "work". "Planting plants" should read "planting bulbs". Geez....

    1. Carola Bartz: It is a lot of work. Sadly this week has been packed with appointments (mostly medical) so not a lot has been done in the garden. Next week (fingers crossed). I am not a big fan of planting either but am a fan of the results.
