Sunday Selections #824

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This last week (and next week and the one after) has been busy with mostly medical appointments.  Sigh.

So just a few photos this week.

First some bad photos of the Strawberry Moon and a lovely pink but frosty dawn as I headed off to LL - my only non medical appointment for the week.

I have often said that my city is packed with public art.  Due to the interminable work on our tram system one piece was moved out of the city to Lake Tuggeranong this week.

I like it's new position.

Here is  "Dream Lens for the Future," a sculpture by Keizo Ushio, in its new home on the Lake Tuggeranong foreshore. The sculptureframes the landscape through its circular form and allows for close-up interaction.

I I hope

  3. I like the interesting art piece. I wanted to take a picture of the Strawberry moon but I need a better camera at some point in order to get those kinds of pictures. You did well though. Have a nice week.

    1. Mary Kirkland: I too need a better camera and steady hands to take good shots of the moon.

  4. Hi EC - looks like an ammonite with the potential to be a crocodile ... but what a fascinating sculpture ... so pleased you let us see it. I hope you'll have reasonable news via the various medical appointments - cheers and all the best - Hilary

  5. That is a beautiful sculpture. I like how it is located near water, because it remind me of a shell.

That's a stunning strawberry moon. Never heard of strawberry moon before. Sorry your week (and more) is filled with medical appointments. I hope there will be good news on all fronts.

    1. Bleubeard and Elizabeth: I can totally see the shell in Dream Lens. Thank you. We pinched the Strawberry Moon title from your side of the world.

  7. Laura Eno - I love that sculpture! It carries a sense of serenity for me, though I can’t explain why. Perfect setting for it too. Perhaps the location will be permanent.
Your moon shots are lovely. I couldn’t even admire it because of cloud cover.
One foot in front of the other. Trudge on, the apparent motto for our lives lately. Hopefully in the next few weeks you’ll get a break from all the appointments.
Love and hugs to you, and scritches for the overlords.

You are right about the serenity of the statue and the lake side is a beautiful spot for it. I do hope it stays.
      Hugs.

  8. What a fitting new home. Dream Lens for the Future feels right at ease by the lake, inviting reflection through its curves while perfectly framing nature’s own art

  14. I like your pink sky and strawberry moon! It's ironic that it's still called the 'strawberry moon' there, where it's the beginning of winter. Here I've just started picking the first strawberries of the season. :-)

As for the sculpture, I don't blame you for favoring it, and its new position.

  16. The sculpture looks like something kids would love to climb on and sit in. The moon is a tricky girl, hard to photograph most times.

    1. River: I expect when the weather warms up again children will climb in and over the sculpture. Which is lovely. And yes, good photos of the moon are rare (from me anyway).

I love to see all the art in your city so thank you for sharing this piece. I am a big fan of circles in all their forms, so this is right up my street. Great moon photos too.

  25. I thought that sculpture at first was a donut with a worm track through it, indicating its delicious nature. That was before I read your text about it. Or a worm hole, you know, being a trekkie, from way back, fast track vacuum like pathways between universes.

    1. Stayer: Several people from the US have seen that donut. I didn't, and now I do. And yes, a worm hole could be a wonderful thing.
