Cat Condominium

Still hurting, still stiff, but what the hey.

Our cats have long made it clear that they consider themselves to be underprivileged.  They lie, but that is another story.  So yesterday we went to the markets and bought them a condo to replace the much smaller one that they have shredded.

And it was such a success that Jazz climbed aboard as we were carrying it across the kitchen.  And they play chasings on and around it, leaping to the ground to run through their tunnel (seen in some of these shots).  Jewel has carefully placed her acorn on it.  And batts the acorn to the ground and carries it back again.  I am not certain who gets more fun out of it, the cats or us.

Towards the end of the day the sky started to glow.  So I wobbled/waddled outside with my camera.  And was rewarded with this.

Shortly before we went out yesterday I stepped on an earring. And broke it.   One my father had made me.  He has been dead for a little over twenty years and it has enormous sentimental value.  I wept.  And today I headed off to try and find a jeweller who could work magic.  And was almost unbelievably lucky.  The jeweller I approached told me that he didn't work with silver anymore.  And looked at my face and said 'it obviously means a lot to you.  Take a seat.  I will fix it now'.  And did.  So I wept again.

I am still a bit anxious about the commitment I have made for tomorrow.  Not only will I be knackered long before the end, but critiquing other people's style is difficult and delicate work.  And I well remember how much an off the cuff comment can hurt.  Still, my philosophy is that I can do anything if I have to.  And having made the commitment I guess I have to.  Cross your fingers for me please.

  1. Hi EC,

I love the cat condo. I've just shown your post to Mrs PM and suggested that we get one; she's not keen for some reason.

I'll ask the cats then we'll gang up on her.

    :0)

    Cheers

  2. Hi PM,

If you ask the cats you will assuredly be ganging up on Mrs PM. Good luck.

  3. Fingers crossed.
I love the cat condo and now I want a kitty....
Your sunset photos are very pretty.
    How's the foot?

  4. If we had a cat condo like that, Dominic and Larry would probably wind up knocking it to the floor as they tore each other's fur out. They do so like to share and play together. Have Jazz and Jewel already asked you to install food dispensers on top of it? That does look like fun.

GOOD LUCK! Fingers crossed!! I really do hope it goes ok.

  5. Hi River. Thanks. You should get a condo and a cat to play on it. Hours of fun. And, just at the moment (I hope) all of me hurts. Not sure which bits hurt most. Whinge, whinge.

Paper Chipmunk: Of course they want their food served on it. It seems (knock on wood) to be remarkably sturdy. Two cats batting, swatting and leaping hasn't even rocked it. And Jazz often chews chunks from Jewel. Her trick is to swivel round, take his ear in her mouth and shriek (as she bites down) 'he is hurting me, he is hurting me', so that one of us will rescue her.

Thank you both for your good wishes for tomorrow.

  6. The ear thing is too funny! Smart girl.
Larry and Dominic box each other before dinner every day. They stand on their hind legs and take swings at each other. It's their little ritual.

  7. Fantastico! Jazzy is a little envious of Jazz and Jewel's new play gym. I really hope it goes well with your vols. It's a very good cause.

  8. Sometimes it's more fun to watch pets than TV. I'm glad you made it outside, those pics are gorgeous.
    Cheers

  9. I am hoping it all goes well tomorrow and that I will hear good reports afterwards. And here's hoping you won't be too "knackered" after. I haven't heard that word in a long time and forgot how much I like it! Love the cat condo, too...

  10. I've seen those cat condos for sale but I never believed that cats actually used them. We have friends who bought a very swish one but the cat (Baloo) never goes near it, preferring every other possible surface in the house. They can be very contrary creatures. But it looks like yours are having a ball. I sincerely hope that you've taken out Rapture Pet Insurance for tomorrow (they have already sold 187 policies apparently, which goes to show that the mother of imbeciles is always pregnant).

Love, love, love those sunsets - a beautiful reward for what seemed like a bit of a depressing day for you. Aches and pains are no fun at all - I rail and rant at my body as well, but it still ignores my wishes and sends spasms instead. I'll send you good Nurse Lambi vibes and see if that helps.

I'm so happy that you got your precious earring fixed. You can't put a price on those sort of pieces and how good that the jeweller recognised just how much it meant to you.

I hope tomorrow goes well (or as well as can be expected) and that you learn to say "No" for the next time. I'm sure if they looked that they could find someone else - and it sounds as though you need some EC time of your own. Although, come 6.01pm tomorrow it might be moot, as we could all be taking a trip skywards with the other 144,000 most god-fearing people. :-)

  11. That is hysterical that one rode in on it, to be first. What a great description of your new cat condo and the cats delight.

Beautiful photos of the Sunset also. So glad you got that ring fixed immediately, can put a mind at ease, especially when someone senses beyond the words, like that jeweler, and decides to repair more than a ring, at once.

  12. Paper Chipmunk: I would love to see cats on their hind legs boxing like kangaroos. I am smiling now at the thought of it.
Mitzi: Buy a condo. For an overactive cat it is magic. Though perhaps it needs two for maximum fun.
Karen: Thanks. Outside is usually better than TV.
Djan: I am just about to get ready, thanks for your good wishes.
Marie: Perhaps Baloo needed a friend to play with. I love the name though - another Kipling reader.
Strayer: Yes, it was wonderful of the jeweller. Restored a little faith.

OK enough faffing around. Off to get ready. Dressed even. Wearing (among other things) my earring.

  15. My fingers are crossed but I honestly don't think you'll need the luck :)

Love the cat photos and the sunset pics!

  16. think about your luck of having a father who would/could make earrings for you.
and I just LOVE 'Jazz climbed aboard as we were carrying it across the kitchen. And they play chasings on and around it, leaping to the ground to run through their tunnel (seen in some of these shots). Jewel has carefully placed her acorn on it. And batts the acorn to the ground and carries it back again.'
Cats and skies - the joy and pleasure. keep it up. X X

  17. Thanks Windsmoke - I am really looking forward to it.
Mad Cat Lady: the cats do love it, but they are shamefully indulged. They also love cardboard boxes and Jewel's favourite toy is an acorn shell.
Kath: Thanks. I managed, but am stuffed. I am practising no.
Marshall: Some day I will have to write about my father. A complicated man (aren't we all) but his hobby was jewellery making, and he created some WONDERFUL things. Thanks.

  21. Wow! Do those cats realise how lucky they are? I doubt it. In typical feline fashion, they probably behave as if its the least you could do for them ;-)

  22. You commented on my blog entry a couple of days ago (thank you for your supportive words!), so I wandered over here to take a look at your most recent post or two. This has turned into another manner of exploration altogether, as you can see!

    Two things:
    (1) The anecdote about the jeweler made me so happy. I'd love to give him a hug, if I only could!

    (2) Those sky pictures? Oh, man, what I'd give to be out there under that sky right now!

  23. I love your cat condominium. It looks beautiful! I am also happy to know that your earring was fixed. It is easy to understand how you feel about it. Life is so good. Cheers!
