Sunday Selections

Sunday Selections, brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, is an ongoing theme where participants post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Anyone can join in, just post your photos under the Sunday Selections title, link back to Kim, then add your name to her Linky list at Frogpondsrock.

And my theme today is things, of which we have far toooo many.  And consequently the ambience of the house could accurately be described as dusty.  Some of the things have been acquired while one of us has been travelling, some are gifts, some just materialised  (as in I don't know where they come from).

Those of my earrings with suitable hooks hang from embroidery hoops like this one.  And I am a bit ashamed to say that I have nine more of them hanging on the bedroom wall.  It does mean that I can keep pairs together, and that I can see what is there but it is still excessive.  In self defence I have to say that I don't buy earrings - but then I don't have any need to.

  1. oh wow - all good Stuff. It is good to have an attractive environment surrounded by various collected reminders of happy days, and I do not understand the people who can live in styled and over-designed interiors where everything matches and is the same age.
    The earrings thingy looks brilliant.

  2. Ann O'D: No-one could ever say that anything in our place matches. And that doesn't worry me one iota, it is the sheer volume of stuff that sometimes gets daunting.

  3. aaah nice! I have a tall frog cupboard that is the same style and colour as your flying frog. I bought it in a junk shop because (a) it was a frog and (b)it was only $20 because it needs restoration as someone had sawn off it's hands and feet.

  4. What a clever idea for the earring storage! Not that I have that many earrings. Actually, I think I only have 2 pair that aren't in my ears. (I only have the one piercing).

And I love, love, LOVE that fork and spoon set, just gorgeous :)

  6. Your "dust catchers" are very pretty. I love the flying frog which I thought was a bird until I read Kim's comment and had a second look.

  8. Beautiful stuff! I have dozens of pairs of earrings, too, but I never thought of hanging them like that. Good idea! And yeah, I don't need that many but I like to wear different ones...

  9. I also love the embroidery hoop ear-ring holder. I wonder if that final pic shows a tea-pot? I like tea-pots.

  10. Mitzi: A tea-pot it is, but not a good one. It dribbles so it is kept for its decorative(?) function only. And you are right. A good tea-pot is a thing of joy and beauty.

  11. Fantastic photos, my favourite ones this time around are the green flying frog and the scary mask that would have been made for nightmares :-).

  13. Thanks Snow: I painted it myself, which is why it is a little wonky.

  15. Hee, hee... you and my husband would get on as he's a hoarder as well. I'm much more the slash-and-burn type of person. Though, that said, I do rather like teapots (and you will be happy to hear that I bought an elephant with child teapot from the Red Cross shop only last week) and candle holders. Oh yes, and anything shaped like a moose. Hmm... perhaps I'm a hoarder in denial :-)

My daughter has a similar system for hanging up her extensive earring collection. She invented it at primary school, using a wire coathanger (the kind from the dry cleaner) to which she attached a long length of while tuille. That used to hang on her bedroom wall and she hooked her glittery earrings on to it, providing a practical storage space plus a decorative feature for her room. Pretty clever, I thought.

  16. You have some great 'things'. I must remember your idea of earrings on an embroidery hoop. I haven't worn any in years but my daughter seems to have a billion pair that are hard to keep track of.

  17. What a clever way of storing your earrings. That flying frog is my favourite.

  18. No, no, no EC, one can never have too many earrings, just think of what QE has in the vaults.

  20. your embroider hoops for earrings is a great way to keep them in pairs. and pretty to look at. yes i do remember you told me about them before:) i'm now inspired as by old frame for earrings is a bit... crowded.

and stuff, things, matters, what is that, they just materialize. and too many of them just collect dust and aren't all that loved. sigh.
