Callooh, callay O frabjus day

The smaller portion is almost certainly coming home tomorrow.

When I went up to see him this morning they had taken him off the oxygen, and were testing his capacity to breathe without it.  He walked a complete circuit of the ward and was only very slightly breathless.  He recovered quickly too.  So the physiotherapist gave him a tick.

All the tubes and cannulas have also been removed.  He is eating.  And drinking.

The stoma nurse came to see him this morning and gave him an interim supply of equipment to take home.  She also promised that she would order a month's supply to be delivered.  And is obviously as good as her word because they are here.

A community nurse will come by on Monday to remove the sixty or seventy staples currently holding him together.  And will be on call should he/we need her.

I am really, really happy, but still miffed that they couldn't have done it this way the last time.

He agreed to photos today too.  I was right, he was happier about the bruises on his wrists and arms being captured than his face.  And since I too am camera phobic I didn't push it - but now have a couple of nice photos to cherish while the beard grows back.

    That's fantastic because it's better being home amongst love ones than being in hospital :-).

    A lovely end to the week. Hooray for victory laps around the ward. Maybe tell TSP to go easy on the garden-mania for a while.

    Sounds like things have been a proper worry at your end, I'm sorry to hear that but pleased he's back home and recovering well. I know all too well how good it feels to be out of there, though hubby was always scared I was coming out too soon. The beard going must have been quite a shocker! Thankfully they've never shaved anything of mine off, though I believe the surgeons enjoyed a game of chess on the minefield that is my tum hahahaha. At least you can stop worrying as much now you have him in your clutches.

    Good news! Yay!! What a relief. I imagine it's still going to be quite a recovery, but the worst is now over! No more hospital! At last. Good luck with everything. Big cyber hugs!

    I recognized the Jabberwocky poem in the title, and smiled to realize that he is coming home. And you're right, too bad they didn't get it right the first time, but better now than never! Sending you lots of virtual hugs...

    DJan, Karen: Thanks - I am as excited as a kid before Christmas this (early) morning. And we grew up with the Jabberwocky. He just rolled into my mind when I saw how much better the smaller portion was yesterday.

    A sadness. The smaller portion just rang to say that his specialist wants to see him again before he leaves hospital and is away for the weekend. Why they couldn't have told him that yesterday ...

    Oh no, that is mean, to raise his (and your hopes) and then dash them again. Still, on a positive side, maybe it is safer to have that final look before discharge. Keep smiling as 48 hours is not to long in the scheme of things. xxx

    Dear TEC, I'm so sorry to hear TSP has been in hospital, and hope he's home as soon as possible (fingers crossed it's today!).

    I couldn't help smiling when you described the 'trim' TSP's beard received; how marvellous to meet his chin after 30 years!

    such lovely news, i hope it has went well with the homecoming for smaller portion! and it sounds, without knowing the whole story and details of course, like the health care is a good and supportive one in general.

    Thanks Strayer. He finally got home late on Monday and we are starting the long slow recuperation process. It is good to have him back, though he can't pick up the cats yet. Which he, and they, miss.
