All apparently quintessentially Australian. I am only interested in one of them. When we went to the nursery the other day we took a small detour (less than a kilometre) and were greeted with these. (If you click on the photos they will get bigger.)
It is obviously a good year for kangas. And don't the poor mothers look uncomfortable with a full pouch? And then we came home to this:
Lucky, lucky, lucky.
Yes, very lucky! I love those birds, they are beautiful! The kangaroos are so cool, too! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteRoos...my fave. I used to love going out roo spotting at night with the big spotlight on the truck when I lived in Oz. I only shot them with my camera.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thanks, have a great weekend yourself and send some of your rain our way.
ReplyDeleteKaren: When we lived in rural NSW there were spotlighters everywhere. Unfortunately they shot everything. Road signs, roos, dogs, cats, sheep ... Your option is much better.
I'm jealous, jealous, jealous and not a yummmmmy meat pie in sight. I agree the best way to shoot a Kangaroo is with a camera :-).
ReplyDeleteSuperRoo!
ReplyDeleteI like my roo marinated in honey soy garlic, then barbecued.
ReplyDeleteOf course they do look lovely out in the fields too.
Love your parrots.
We had a baby kanga once - roadkill mum.
ReplyDeleteIt's eyes were so pure and penetrating that I could not meet them, and felt deep shame at belonging to my species.
Windsmoke: Beautiful aren't they?
ReplyDeleteMitzi: Yup. In the heart of Canberra.
Oh River: Even as a meat eater I couldn't eat Skippy. Unreasonable I know, as it is a health(ier) meat. And I think we are the only country to eat our Coat of Arms.
Frances: Animal eyes trip the guilt button really well don't they?
Is that birds call Kenari ? or you have another name in English ?
ReplyDeleteWow you live in a Disney cartoon by the looks of it heh. Where we are the wild-life consists of lots of pigeons and the odd dead rat. Love the pics.
ReplyDeleteBaliMoz: The green and red ones are called King Parrots and the smaller red and blue ones are called Crimson Rosellas.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: We get pigeons too (and crested wood doves) and Jazz proudly brings us home rats. No Disney here, though the wildlife is spectacular.
You know, whenever I see kangaroos lying down it seems to me that they ar the most relaxed creatured going. Of course, then one flies by you and you just crap yourself!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely homecoming :)
Oh how lovely to see this animals in real life!
ReplyDeleteThey appear to be so catlike in attitude. Some of my very favorite of your pics have been/are the kangaroos! I can't believe they're right near (in?) town like that.
ReplyDeleteamandab: Paper Chipmunk is right - they are cat like. Look totally relaxed and can bound off with no warning.
ReplyDeleteladyfi: A real benefit to living in the 'bush capital'.
Paper Chipmunk: Good to hear from you. I was hoping you were/are OK. The kangaroos in these shots were a couple of hundred metres away from a nursery in the suburb I grew up in. A friend on the other side of town (the one the orchid is for) frequently had them in her garden. During the drought we had a few years back, people were finding them in their pools. It makes driving at dawn or dusk more challenging, but I love them.
EC - magnificent creatures, many thanks for sharing these photos of them in their natural element (which seems to be state of recline)! This is one of the great things about having blogfriends the world over - I get to see through their eyes what it is like to live in completely other surroundings than mine. So, we are both lucky.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos and wonderful animals. Australian birds are so spectacular. I think I need to visit Australia again!
ReplyDeleteI have seen kangaroos in our zoos but how wonderful it would be to see them in the wild. Those beautiful birds would also make my day.
ReplyDeleteAnne, Denise: Welcome and thank you. Our birds do look wonderful, but their noises are a whole new question. Love them just the same. Ditto the roos. It is a treat to see them away from nature parks or zoos.
ReplyDeletewonderful land of OZ!
ReplyDeleteAloha from Waikiki;

Beautiful photos I love the bird names you have there…Crimson Rosellas. And what about your Fairy Wrens? The Splendid Fairy Wren and the Superb Fairy Wren!
ReplyDeleteThere is a grey and black bird that looks a bit like a crow in the first photo (top left of the picture) do you know what kind of bird that is? And the Kangaroos are gorgeous too :-) Hope you are well.
Hi Angela: The grey and black bird is a magpie. Unlike many of our birds while its plumage is restrained, it has a glorious warble. We feed them too.
ReplyDeletekangeroos court!!!! saw on the news one time that a roo attacked a human, just got in the wayy of her baby and misunderstoodddd...sorry u feel the need to enable postings and comments re: tea parties, and "no pay" for the limited income persons in august...with the gvt and big business always and forever giving and getting endless bennies and huge pay and pay increases; rich getting richer, and poor getting poorer, the disappearing middle class....its the gvts way of saying we are stupid and cant figure out that the gvt is using the media to convince the public that the debt is ALL the SS fault, and has to be DEALT with!!! just like hitler told the world that the worlds problems were because of the JEWS and went on a holocaust rampage;we'vew had scare tactics before; the poor and disable d are targeted and blamed for alot;categorized as stupid and expendable; given respect and an equal chance ; just as good as the "rich" even possibly with more of a sense of moral and integrity at that...we should really go back to the 60z and embrace commune living; flower power!!
ReplyDeleteAnon: Huh? Pretty certain you are commenting on the wrong blog.
ReplyDeleteYou are indeed lucky. The only birds I've noticed here are very cheeky sparrows (one tried to take a slice of pizza out of my hand) and black crows! Still, we've seen some adorable squirrels here.
ReplyDeletei can only concur, lucky, lucky, lucky!!! :)
