He's gorgeous. Oh how I miss my kittehs.

DeleteMy Mandy cat when he was alive loved to get on top of the refrig and open one of the cabinets and sleep inside. The cabinet door would close behind him and I would go crazy looking for him at sundown (curfew). Or he would scare the jeepers out of me by suddenly appearing on the refrig when I was not aware he was there... watching me like the Snoopy cartoon when he acted like a vulture on his dog house. I finally began leaving one of the doors open so that I could easily see a paw or bit of orange and know where he was. I never stored anything up there because I couldn't reach, so it was a perfect nap spot for him.
ReplyDeleteCindi Summerlin: We store quite a lot on the fridge top, but less and less as Jazz goes by. From the fridge he can (and does) climb up behind the cupboards. It is disconcerting when a cupboard starts to purr as you walk by.

ReplyDeleteCathy Oliffe-Webster: He doees it because he can. When I am not around he uses the cook top to launch himself from. If I am near the fridge he runs up my back (painful) and does a flying leap.
DeleteFor some reason he also sees it as a haven. When he and Jewel are playing chasings he leaps to the top of the fridge if he feels threatened. Jewel is less than half his size. And less than half as evil.
He knows he's cute and that you love him. It's all in the limp fall. Great pictures! I smiled and am still smiling. :-)

DeleteWhat do you mean,"runs up my back, and vaults to the top of the fridge where he does limp falls". This is very important cat on very important scouting mission. Dangerous recon mission, hazardous ascent, must maintain disingenuous cat disguise at all costs.

Plastic Mancunian: He is beautiful. He is a rescue cat and came to us with the name Jazpurr. I found that too pukey for words and Jazz he became. How is Licquorice treating you these days?
DeleteA cat just being a cat!! Showed this post to my hubby who said "Oh, he's just like our old Soot." Gee he loved that cat (matter of fact so did I). Hope Jazz doesn't use his claws when scaling your back or am I being too down to earth? Love those magnets too but love cats much more. Fantastic creatures. :)
ReplyDeleteMimsie: Of course he uses his claws. There are a lot of fridge magnets - but Jazz is steadily whittling them down. He throws them to the ground quite regularly and some don't recover.
DeleteWhat a cutie pie he is!!! I love black cats - I think they are my favorite. Here in the States I was told that black cats are the last to be adopted because of their color (and what is said about is) - if we could have cats in our home, it probably would be full of them. Beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Both of our cats are black. I think I have had at least one black cat for most of my life. I love all cats, but there is something about black ones. I don't think there is as much prejudice about adopting them here. Both Jazz and Jewel are rescue cats and we had to be quick to acquire them. And have never regretted it.

DeleteBeautiful! These pictures remind me of the black and white cat I use to have. 18 years old when he died. One time he was on the fridge. ( I am sure that wasn't the only time). I always had to know where my cats were when I went away. I looked all over the house calling him. Finally I looked up and he was watching me from the top of the fridge. Brat!

ReplyDeleteDave King: Jazz is (mostly) a fairly laid back cat. He growls at visitors though - before scuttling away, belly to the ground. He is also an attack cat - on me.

Cloudia: Jazz was a rescue cat so we know nothing about his parentage. His shape is much like Burmese cats, but he is much, much bigger. Whatever his heritage, he is in his forever home.
DeleteOh, it's nice to have electricity again. It lets me view your blog, among other things. When you wrote "Jazz," I certainly didn't expect a lounging kitty. I think my grandmother would love him to bits.

ReplyDeleteWe used to have a cat who loved to go up on the refrigerator as well as the cabinets above, but she was a lithe little siamese. We eventually starting feeding her up there. I seem to remember she expected it. One of our other cats, who was big and not dainty at all and was hated with great intensity by the siamese, started to occasionally sneak up there when Mandy, the siamese, wasn't around. It made us very nervous that one day they'd come face to face up there and we'd have a very ugly cat fight on top of the refrigerator. Then one day the unthinkable happened. Mandy jumped up and came face to face with Bobbie, the other cat. But instead of trying to kill her, as we expected, Mandy fell over, straight down off the refrigerator in what looked like a faint from shock. (Alas, we knew at that moment that she must be seriously unwell, and it turned out she was.)

We have two at the moment and one is friendly to me, one is friendly to my partner, and neither of them like anyone else. In fact, if they see someone coming to the door they growl loudly and scuttle away.

Deletebarbfroman: Jazz can open the fridge. He reefs it open with his paw. He taught Jewel to open it as well. She is not as strong as he is, so inserts her nose into the hinge and weasels it open. We have a child proof lock to keep the cats out.

ReplyDeletebarbfroman: It depends on whether your idea of a massage includes acupuncture. Jazz essentially climbs my back, using his claws as crampons. It is quick, but it is bloody just the same.

Laloofah: He uses my head to step off the fridge as well. I am useful there is no doubt about it.
DeleteThe fridge is cluttered with fridge magnets - gifts mostly, but a lot of them are fun. Jazz has reduced the number of them though - many of them don't bounce well at all, and there is a limit to how many times they can be repaired. I will do that fridge post for you I promise.
