Sunday Selections #109

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. 

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.

Like River I generally run with a theme.  One day this week I went into town.  I was enjoying the flower pots which hang from every lamp post, and stopped to take a photo or two.


And then I looked more closely at the stop sign in the next photo -  and started to giggle.


And yes this week, last week and the week before I have frequently wanted to stop everything...

    That is too funny. And, I hope SP has grown better over the past two weeks and it's just the bloody nuisance of it all that needs stopped. That's exactly what I wish!

    Haha, the "everything" addition is charming. But what really makes it are those flowers. There are no such decorations on STOP signs around here. Here, we can barely keep them up for all the drunks who knock them over.

      John Wiswell: Every pole in the centre of the city has them - traffic signs and light poles. I think it is a wonderful addition - but did love the Stop everything.

      librarygirl: Thank you. Slowly yes. Very slowly. And now I am battling headaches and nausea which is either stress (quite possible) or a lurgy. And I hope it is stress because he really couldn't cope with a lurgy. And I couldn't cope with him with a lurgy.

    Dear EC, do you remember that song from some decade of the 20th century that had this line "Stop! In the name of love!" I don't remember any more of it, just that command. I hope you can stop at times and take a deep breath and do more of this getting out and about to giggle at signs. Peace.

      Dee: I do remember 'Stop in the name of love' and like you cannot remember more of it. Getting out this week was to complete errands/tasks he could not, and to go to Lifeline. Just the same, I giggle every day.

    HaHa! Love it. Good to see someone has a sneaky cheeky sense of humour - and it hasn't gone un-noticed by a keen eye :)

    One of the 'few' things I like about summer is the cheery annuals that brighten up the hot, dry days. Thank goodness for brash, yet pretty Petunias.

      Vicki: It was indeed a sneaky, cheeky sense of humour that added to the sign. I loved it.
      We have pretty much given up on annuals here because they are simply too thirsty. I am glad that our council hasn't though, they are a wonderful splash of colour.

    Those flowers are gorgeous! I am so looking forward to warmer temps and flowers everywhere. I hope things start to improve for you stress wise and that SP is on the mend.

    I love the first picture. It's especially pretty since we're in the throes of winter where I live! But I do love the snow, too. It will be spring before we know it.

    Very glad to hear the SP is on the mend.
    The hanging baskets look so lovely, here we don't hang anything but the Christmas decorations in December.

      River: The hanging baskets are a joy - I love that the local council is spending money to brighten up the city centre.
      And today I have done nothing more productive than to read blogs. And to retire back to bed several times. Bliss.

      My mum loved to go to Canberra and I know Karen also fell in love with your city when there a few years ago. My 90 y.o. ex-sister-in-law has lived there with her 92y.o. hubby for many years but I know in her heart she is still sometimes homesick for Perth.

    There are a few charming cities (towns?) nearby that hang baskets like those, and it is delightful. I'll be sure to pay more attention to the signs, though, as it's good to be delighted *and* amused!

    How nice that they hang flowers on each lamp post. Who waters them? I agree "STOP" everything but don't go back and start again. I assume, since you haven't said, that the SP is recovering, slowly I am sure, but recovering.
    I surely hope so.

    I looked at last weeks pictures too, this morning ... is that a watermelon? Whatever it is it looks good enough to eat. You must have quite a garden. I don't know how you manage everything you do. I dub you Wonder Women. Well, fingers crossed that all is well and soon you will be back to normal at your house ... and yes, what is normal? I asked it first because I know that's what you are thinking it:)

      Andrea: The council waters them too - religiously every morning in hot weather.

    Those flowers pots/flowers are wonderful. How they pretty up a town...more townships should follow suit, I reckon!

      Wendy aka Quilfeather: We have a number of hanging pots, which are under constant attack from the marauding beaks of the cockatoos, corellas and galahs. When the birds leave them be long enough they are a joy.

    Inner city Sydney has hanging baskets too though I haven't seen them since the 46C day. So good you noticed the Stop everything sign. I love that someone did that.

    Beautiful flowers (and a welcome sight for snow-blind eyes!), and the addendum to the stop sign made me LOL! I actually think it's a great reminder. We humans are so often in a mad rush, so busy, so self-absorbed in our own frantic little worlds - it's good to just stop and breath and take notice and live in the moment now and then. Doesn't mean the plants won't get watered. Might mean they're more likely to, as people stop long enough to notice that the plants are thirsty! :-)
