Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.
Like River I generally run with a theme. One day this week I went into town. I was enjoying the flower pots which hang from every lamp post, and stopped to take a photo or two.
And then I looked more closely at the stop sign in the next photo - and started to giggle.
And yes this week, last week and the week before I have frequently wanted to stop everything...

That is too funny. And, I hope SP has grown better over the past two weeks and it's just the bloody nuisance of it all that needs stopped. That's exactly what I wish!
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Thank you. And yes, he is a little better and you are right about the bloody nuisance of it all.
DeleteGreat photos! Potted plants on a pole in a town are a lovely sight. Thinking of you all and wishing you well.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Every light pole in town has them at the moment - and they are simply delightful.
DeleteHaha, the "everything" addition is charming. But what really makes it are those flowers. There are no such decorations on STOP signs around here. Here, we can barely keep them up for all the drunks who knock them over.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: Every pole in the centre of the city has them - traffic signs and light poles. I think it is a wonderful addition - but did love the Stop everything.
DeleteI love hanging baskets;they always make me start singing SandG's 49th Street Bridge Song.
ReplyDeletedootndoodoodoo...feelin' groooovy
dinahmow: Now you have created an ear worm. I will be hearing that all day... And I also love the hanging baskets.
DeleteHope all on the improve at your place, EC?
ReplyDeletelibrarygirl: Thank you. Slowly yes. Very slowly. And now I am battling headaches and nausea which is either stress (quite possible) or a lurgy. And I hope it is stress because he really couldn't cope with a lurgy. And I couldn't cope with him with a lurgy.
DeleteI just had to stop everything and come visit your site :) Loving the photos. Hoping things start to improve in your lives. Please try to relax.
ReplyDeleteIn kindness and hopeful wishes,
Gary
klahanie: Dear Gary, thank you. I am very glad that you did stop everything and come to visit.
DeleteDear EC, do you remember that song from some decade of the 20th century that had this line "Stop! In the name of love!" I don't remember any more of it, just that command. I hope you can stop at times and take a deep breath and do more of this getting out and about to giggle at signs. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: I do remember 'Stop in the name of love' and like you cannot remember more of it. Getting out this week was to complete errands/tasks he could not, and to go to Lifeline. Just the same, I giggle every day.
DeleteBeautiful flowers. Yes, there are days when I just want to stop everything too. Hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteCindi Summerlin: Thank you. Every post/pole in town has the hanging baskets full of petunias and they are SUCH a treat.
DeletePretty flowers, funny sign!
ReplyDeleteKaren: Yes on both counts.
DeleteHaHa! Love it. Good to see someone has a sneaky cheeky sense of humour - and it hasn't gone un-noticed by a keen eye :)
ReplyDeleteOne of the 'few' things I like about summer is the cheery annuals that brighten up the hot, dry days. Thank goodness for brash, yet pretty Petunias.
Thinking of you and hope that your SP is slowly seeing a return to wellness. Take care :)
Vicki: It was indeed a sneaky, cheeky sense of humour that added to the sign. I loved it.
DeleteWe have pretty much given up on annuals here because they are simply too thirsty. I am glad that our council hasn't though, they are a wonderful splash of colour.
Thanks for the smile and the beautiful flowers everywhere! I wish my town looked like that.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you got out for a while to clear your head. I hope the headaches and nausea vanish quickly! Hugs to you.
Laura Eno: Thank you. I went back to bed again and am feeling more human. A win.
DeleteThose flowers are gorgeous! I am so looking forward to warmer temps and flowers everywhere. I hope things start to improve for you stress wise and that SP is on the mend.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be nice to STOP everything sometimes... if only! ;)
Jennifer: Somedays it would indeed be WONDERFUL to stop everything. As you say, if only...
DeleteStop the world for a break!

Cloudia: Stop the world, I want to get off was the phrase I heard often while at university. And somedays I do understand the sentiment.
DeleteI love the first picture. It's especially pretty since we're in the throes of winter where I live! But I do love the snow, too. It will be spring before we know it.
ReplyDeleteAnd the stop sign is priceless! Glad to know the SP is doing a little better!
BECKY: The stop sign is a gem isn't it? I am so glad I saw it. And yes, it is wonderful that he is making some small steps in the right direction.
Delete"Stop, in the name of Love, before you break my heart, think it over" etc, sung by Diana Ross and the Supremes.
ReplyDeleteVery glad to hear the SP is on the mend.
The hanging baskets look so lovely, here we don't hang anything but the Christmas decorations in December.
Stop everything and get some rest.
River: The hanging baskets are a joy - I love that the local council is spending money to brighten up the city centre.
DeleteAnd today I have done nothing more productive than to read blogs. And to retire back to bed several times. Bliss.
Precious are those small things that make us smile during our otherwise unsmile-worthy errands.
ReplyDeletePaper Chipmunk (aka Ellen): You are so very right. Very, very right.
DeleteSometimes a moat would be lovely... but stopping everything sounds like a better option. Pleased to hear that SP is recovering and hope you will get some more rest.
ReplyDeleteChristine: I would really like a moat. And to stop everything.
DeleteWhat I generally wonder is - how and when these additions to signs are made! Who cares, though, I think the universe is speaking directly to you :)
ReplyDeletejenny_o: I hadn't considered that the universe was talking to me - but you may be right. If so, I should have paid more attention earlier in the week.
DeleteThat is fabulous! Hope things are calming down some. Otherwise, I say steal that sign ;)
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: Now there's a thought...
DeleteThanks for sharing those beautiful photos EC. Canberra does it so well.
ReplyDeleteMimsie: It does - and is a much maligned city.
DeleteMy mum loved to go to Canberra and I know Karen also fell in love with your city when there a few years ago. My 90 y.o. ex-sister-in-law has lived there with her 92y.o. hubby for many years but I know in her heart she is still sometimes homesick for Perth.
DeleteMimsie: Home always holds a piece of our heart doesn't it?
DeleteThat's a funny sign. And such lovely flower pot decoration thingies.
ReplyDeleteladyfi: They brighten up the whole city centre. A brilliant idea.
DeleteThe contrast between the built environment and the natural beauty of the flowers is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteDave King: My preference is for the flowers and the trees, so they get a big tick from me.
DeleteThere are a few charming cities (towns?) nearby that hang baskets like those, and it is delightful. I'll be sure to pay more attention to the signs, though, as it's good to be delighted *and* amused!
ReplyDeleteMs. CrankyPants: They have been doing it here for a few years now, and I hope they continue. It was pure chance I noticed the sign, but I am so glad I did.
DeleteHow nice that they hang flowers on each lamp post. Who waters them? I agree "STOP" everything but don't go back and start again. I assume, since you haven't said, that the SP is recovering, slowly I am sure, but recovering.
ReplyDeleteI surely hope so.
I looked at last weeks pictures too, this morning ... is that a watermelon? Whatever it is it looks good enough to eat. You must have quite a garden. I don't know how you manage everything you do. I dub you Wonder Women. Well, fingers crossed that all is well and soon you will be back to normal at your house ... and yes, what is normal? I asked it first because I know that's what you are thinking it:)
Andrea @ From The Sol
Andrea: The council waters them too - religiously every morning in hot weather.
DeleteWonder woman I am not. Muddle along woman is much, much closer to the mark. But many thanks for your vote of confidence. Normal? Not a lot of it here, which is fine.
That is funny...we do have to stop everything sometimes...Hoping you feel better
ReplyDeleteKim @ Stuff could...: Jenny_o said that the universe was talking directly to me, and I think she has a point.
DeleteThinking of you even if I have not been visiting lately. Sending prayers ans energy both your ways Hugs to you Soosie
ReplyDeletefarawayinthesunshine: Thank you so much.
DeleteI've been thinking of you and hoping that you are in a good place, mentally at least. You are one of my favorite blogging buddies, and I worry about you! Someone has to do it, after all. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: How lovely of you - but please don't worry about me. Save your energy for much more enjoyable things like flowershows, treks and sky diving. And blogging about them.
DeleteI can only imagine. Lovely that you can find a giggle in a road sign. :)
ReplyDeleteLynn: I can (and do) find things to laugh about everywhere. That one was a real gem though.
DeleteThose flowers pots/flowers are wonderful. How they pretty up a town...more townships should follow suit, I reckon!
ReplyDeleteI hope all is going well for you and "He Who Shall Remain Un-named,But Not Obeyed"! Take good care the both of you!
Lee: It would be wonderful if more towns/cities did it. It does brighten up the landscape wonderfully.
DeleteObeyed? In his dreams (and my nightmares).
Thank you for the flowers, EC. It's beginning to seem that we;ve had nothing but gray, black, brown and white for a very long time now. That splash of green and riotous punks and purples sparked my neurotransmitters! x
ReplyDeleteAustan: It is my pleasure. I would love some of your temperatures - but am also very fond of colour. Lots of colour.
DeleteI bet you have! Good that you could laugh about it though!
ReplyDeleteKath Lockett: Some of laughter of late has been a touch on the hysterical side - but it is laughter just the same.
DeleteA lovely sentiment: Stop (everything)
ReplyDeleteEveryone needs to take this to heart.
Susan Kane: Everyone does indeed. And some of us need to do so more often.
DeleteStop everything, indeed! I love it!
ReplyDeleteBirdie: It has immense charm doesn't it?
DeleteI love the beauty of the hanging flowers- at times the thought of stopping everything isn't a bad idea. Is there an App for that? ~:)
ReplyDeleteI hope you and SP are as well and happy as possible.
Pam:): Thank you - we are improving a little each day.
DeleteAhhhhh!! What is that -- flowers?! Outside?!!!
ReplyDeleteSoon. Soon. :-)
Pearl
Pearl: Outside in heat which would put your hot yoga classes to shame. Bring back winter!
DeleteHow funny! I love hanging flower pots. Every year I say to myself 'I must plant some' and every year I don't. Hmm ...
ReplyDeleteHope things are okay in your little corner of the world.
Wendy aka Quilfeather: We have a number of hanging pots, which are under constant attack from the marauding beaks of the cockatoos, corellas and galahs. When the birds leave them be long enough they are a joy.
Deleteoh sometimes I feel like that, stop everything.
ReplyDeleteLinda Stsrr: Some days don't we all?
DeleteIt would be so nice to have flowers again. Those are beautiful baskets. I love the stop sign.
ReplyDeleteM Pax: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteI am glad to hear that you can still manage a giggle. Don't stop that.
ReplyDeleteDon QuiScottie: No matter how pear shaped my world gets I can always manage a giggle. Often a black one - but laughter just the same.
DeleteAll those flowers are gorgeous! I'm so ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteCarol Kilgore: And I am more than ready for Autumn. Lets do a trade.
DeleteHa, yes, stop everything - sometimes that would be a great idea!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that it doesn't matter which continent you're on, those flower arrangements in towns and cities look the same everywhere.
Carola Bartz: It would sometimes be bliss.
DeleteInner city Sydney has hanging baskets too though I haven't seen them since the 46C day. So good you noticed the Stop everything sign. I love that someone did that.
ReplyDeleteStay calm, the days are cooling down I think. Golly cold here anyway today, and Sooooo wet. And windy. All the very best to you and the SP.
Carol: A 46C day would turn me into a crispy critter. I hope the hanging baskets survived.
DeleteCooler and windy here today as well. No longer wet. Yesterday we had blessed gentle rain ALL day. Magic.
Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI adore hanging planters. I want to see them EVERYWHERE.
They just make me feel good. To bad they can't be out in winter!
LOve & Kiss Xxxxx
My Inner Chick: Snap. I have them all year round - in winter I admire the foliage, but the glow of the flowers later in the year makes my heart sing.
DeleteIf you stop everything nobody will put up a planter to admire. and who’s to water them?
ReplyDeletePerhaps ‘everything’ is a slight exaggeration.
Friko: You are right. Selfish me would like to stop everything, while the rest of the world keeps turning.
DeleteBeautiful flowers (and a welcome sight for snow-blind eyes!), and the addendum to the stop sign made me LOL! I actually think it's a great reminder. We humans are so often in a mad rush, so busy, so self-absorbed in our own frantic little worlds - it's good to just stop and breath and take notice and live in the moment now and then. Doesn't mean the plants won't get watered. Might mean they're more likely to, as people stop long enough to notice that the plants are thirsty! :-)
ReplyDeleteLaloofah: I needed the reminder. I had been running on empty for far too long. The council waters the plants, something else I like to watch when I go into town early.
Delete
