Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.
Like River, I generally run with a theme. Officially we are still in winter here. The garden doesn't seem to realise it, and this post could easily be sub-titled 'Blood, Sweat and Tears: The rewards'.
Each and every day more things burst into bloom. There is still a lot to come*, but the air is perfumed, and colour is starting to dance again.
The skinny one is still doing it tough. He has one almost bearable day, and then three or four vile ones. Please keep those good wishes travelling through the ether - for him and for me. He cannot get outside yet, so I am bringing things in for him to enjoy inside. More each day.
*Still to come in the garden: More jonquils, many, many more daffodils, fox gloves, delphiniums, freesias, sparaxis, blossoming trees, dutch, bearded and japanese iris, ranunculas, wattle, anemones, tulips, more hyacinths, grape hyacinths, spring star flowers, allium, poppies, columbines ....

HI Lovely selection of flowers blooming.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson: Thank you. And there is soooo much more to come.
DeleteI told Laura today my goal is to have the garden so crammed full of flowers there will be no room for weeds. It seems you have reached that goal. Keep bringing them in; we're waiting for a happier report on the Skinny One.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: We aren't there yet. Quite. It is still early (6.30) but a little later in the day weeding is on the agenda. And sniffing and looking too...
DeleteToday is another horror day - we have been up since a little after two. Sigh. It will get better. I hope.
Hope he starts to see some improvement soon.
ReplyDeleteI love those dainty little violets.
Delores: The violets have taken over in lots of areas - which is perfectly fine by me. We had some pink ones, but they have gone to God. I will try and track some more down.
DeleteAnd yes, we too are hoping for better days.
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. And so glad that your spring is starting to creep into your days... that means fall will soon be creeping into mine and I am desperate for cooler days and nights.
ReplyDeleteLetting the Words Escape: I hope cool and refreshing breezes come your way. Soon.
DeleteAll the best to the skinny one, it's great to see the flowers popping out everywhere.
ReplyDeleteMerle........
Merlesworld: Thank you. It is exciting...
DeleteThere is nothing that smells more gorgeous than a bunch of jonquils. Heavenly.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you've been having more bad days than good. Thinking of you all.
Wendy aka Quillfeather: Thank you. That small vase perfumes two rooms. Bliss.
DeleteSuch lovely spring cheer! I do hope that the proportion of terrible days and bearable ones will soon be reversed and that he will be able to get outside into the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteAll the very best.
Alexia: I suppose we should be grateful that there are some nearly bearable days. It could be worse. And yes, a reversal would be more than welcome.
DeleteOh, EC, I love to hear from you, but I always hope for better news. One day our of a week seems pretty thin, but it's something to start from. Sending you lots of love and energy through the ether.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. It is a start, and we can only go from there.
DeleteYour garden is about 4 weeks later than mine on the farm and two weeks behind mine on Mt. Lofty.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of the Skinny Portion's struggles, yes, prayers are definitely in order.
Arija: Just in the last week the garden has started to go gang-busters. An exciting time. A rewarding time. A haven of peace...
DeleteDelightful!

Cloudia: Thank you.
DeleteSending get well messages to the skinny one.
ReplyDeleteBirdie: Gratefully received.
DeleteSuch gorgeous flowers! I was just thinking about the seasons there and how you must be coming to the end of winter, but obviously you have lots of springtime things happening! Sending hugs and well wishes to you both.
ReplyDeleteBECKY: Spring is rushing in. Which is a joy.
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful, but as you said, only the beginning. Sorry to hear your hubby is having a rough time of it, which is, of course, rough on you, too. Sending lots and lots of positive thoughts your way.
ReplyDeleteSusan: Yesterday was the worst day so far. Fingers and toes crossed that today is better - and thank you.
DeleteYour blooms are beautiful! Flowers add a spark of happiness and joy to each day. My thoughts and well wishes are with you and "skinny one". Take care and look forward to better days ahead.
ReplyDeleteKaren: Flowers, and the birds, and the cats, and dawn DO help.
DeleteSo glad spring has sprung in your part of the world with everything looking beautiful, inside as well as out their in your lovely garden.
ReplyDeleteIt is so worrying that the SP is having so many problems which in turn causes you problems too. I am hoping your nasty 'flu has perhaps left leaving you feeling a tad better. Much love and tons of positive thoughts heading eastwards to you. You both deserve life to treat you more kindly than it is right now. xx
Mimsie: It is certainly a challenging time - but we will get there. Thank you.
DeleteIt's a tough road you're both on at the moment, EC...and I do so hope things become easier very soon. My best thoughts and wishes go to you and The Skinny One. And I hope that soon your days will be as bright and colourful as those beautiful blooms shown. :)
ReplyDeleteLee: Bringing the garden in certainly helps...
DeleteLove and hugs to you and the Skinny One! OXO Looks as though all that hard and sometimes painful work you 've done in the garden is paying off. Just glorious! And you've got wallflowers! Why did I miss buying those? Love them! I have quite a few things flowering but the shade and damp has taken its toll.
ReplyDeleteCarol: The purple wallflowers have taken over a section of the garden - which is fine. I hope the others do as well. And yes, the rewards of the work are here - and the pain is just a memory. With luck this painful recovery will do the same.
DeleteThe air is perfumed here too. Heavily, with something cloying and headache inducing....*atchoo!!* 'scuse me. The jasmine isn't blooming yet although it's close, so we don't know what is stuffing up our heads.
ReplyDeleteI love your flowers, well worth all the blood, sweat and tears. What is that second flower? The purple one?
Sorry to hear the smaller portion still struggling, I hope the good days soon become more common.
River: Poor you. Some scents do a person in don't they? It could be jonquils which are giving you grief at the moment.
DeleteSending lots of good thoughts to you both! Gorgeous flowers. I hope those are bringing you both some cheer.
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: The flowers do help. As do all the good wishes from the blogosphere. Thank you.
DeleteThey're wallflowers! I've just read Carol's comment.
ReplyDeleteRiver: That's what they are - and they flower for months.
DeleteContinuing to send wishes of healing to you both.
ReplyDeleteHome recovery of a partner after major surgery can be so wretched and wearing and I truly commiserate.
Beautiful spring goodness from your garden can help soothe one so. Nature's balm.
Vicki: I do find myself longing for a convalescent home - for one of us, though I am not certain which.
DeleteEC, wishing you and the smaller portion the best.
ReplyDeleteI love your flowers! They made me smile just to look at them.
Mia McPherson: Thank you. They make us smile too. As do the birds.
Deletewell if the skinny one MUST be in recovery with the need to bring the outside in, it's wonderful that you have so many wonderful flowers and it's a good time of year for them.
ReplyDeletelots of good wishes coming your way
xx
kylie: Thank you. And I will be headed out again (when it is light) to bring more of the outside in.
DeleteI love the purples and violet shades in there, such a fine array. Good wishes and all that is positive and full of hope showered your way.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: Good wishes gratefully received.
DeleteLovely blooms.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you and the skinny one.
love. Hugs. Meows. Purrs. Kisses. xx
My Inner Chick: The garden helps - but so do the meows and purrs.
DeleteI remember all your hard, diligent work planting these bulbs. Now you get to enjoy their beauty. And beautiful they are :)
ReplyDeletePrayers continuing!
Carol Kilgore: People will probably get very, very sick of the garden over the coming weeks. But we won't.
DeleteThe flowers of hope you bring indoors. And the good wishes of your friends within this community, send you both comforting thoughts of better times ahead.
ReplyDeleteGary
klahanie: Thank you so much Gary. And the warmth from the blogosphere means a lot.
DeleteSpringtime eh? Your world is upside down.
ReplyDeleteI hope it can bring some pleasantness amid the struggles
Andrew: Some times it does indeed seem that my world is upside down. However, if it brings me Spring I am happy.
DeleteYour spring flowers delight my eyes and senses - oh how I wish I could smell them!
ReplyDeleteSend healing thoughts and prayers for you and SP.
Happy and healthy days are sure to return:) - hopefully yesterday!
Pam =): They smell delightful. A walk outside is such a treat. And it is a wonderful way to perfume the air inside as well.
DeleteYesterday was (sadly) an absolute shocker, but I am looking forward to health and (more) happiness. Thank you.
A great selection of beautiful flowers! Enjoy your Spring! I always look forward to ours. It's a bit too hot and humid for me right me. Does it get humid where you are? We have also been getting a lot of torrential downpours in the evenings with thunder and lightning.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Fortunately we get very little humidity. We don't get anything like enough rain either.
DeleteSuch gorgeous flowers! I'm glad you can bring some of that beauty indoors.
ReplyDeleteLynn: And I have weeks of joy ahead of me as more and more comes out. And (fingers and toes crossed) with any luck the smaller portion will improve and be able to come outside too.
DeleteI am so sorry that the skinny one is having such a hard time. Sending hugs to you both. Your garden is quite beautiful after all that work you both did. Have to say I prefer your garden pictures to the ones of the more formal gardens you have shown us - they are wonderful but yours has that extra something! I squeaked in just before midnight with a Sunday Selection!
ReplyDeleteGillie: Thank you. Our garden is way too cluttered to be formal - but I am not formal either. I loved your Sunday Selections - and welcome aboard.
DeleteIt is exhausting to have not only the physical challenges of looking after a loved one but also the mental strain of worrying. I so hope that SP begins to improve more quickly. Both of you - take it easy as much as you can.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is a delight. I think your winter must be quite a bit milder than ours, to have such an array already in bloom. Our summer is just starting to cool off here, which is welcome, but that also means winter is not far off. Ah, what can we do? You have the right idea, to look for whatever beauty the season brings.
jenny_o: Thank you. It is exhausting, both physically and emotionally. I have invested way too much in the smaller portion over more than thirty years to even consider giving up though.
DeleteOur winters are mild. We are still getting frost, but almost never get snow. And yes, I have discovered that there is always beauty if only I open my eyes. And benefit when I do.
Dear EC, my thoughts and prayers and visualizations and vibes are with you. That you can go out into the garden and bring its beauty inside is a gift. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: Thank you so very much.
DeleteIt can only get better, spring brings hope.
ReplyDeleteThe best wishes to you and the skinny one.
Friko: Thank you. Hope is what is keeping me putting one foot in front of the other at the moment.
DeleteYour garden is a fragranced paradise! Sending you both healing vibes.
ReplyDeleteladyfi: Thank you.
