Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. One day this week we were promised rain. Late in the afternoon the clouds started rolling in, and I started getting excited. We really, really need the rain.
Which didn't happen. Classic incontinent pigeon rain. Splat, splat and it was gone. However, the cloud cover did give us a stunning sunset. It didn't last long - less than five minutes, but it was beautiful.

Amazing sunset shots!!
ReplyDeletefishducky: The whole sky glowed.
DeletePerfect.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you.
DeleteBeautiful colour.
ReplyDeleteDelores: When I see those colours in paintings I think they are exaggerated, and not real. And then the sky lights up and I remember. Again.
Deleteomg these photos should be put onto canvas, have you ever done that with your photos, a great way to add art to your home with your own photos.
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: There are some of our photos (the skinny one and mine) on the walls but we haven't gone down the canvas path. Yet. Mind you, the walls are nearly as crowded as the rest of the house.
DeleteGorgeous sunset. We were in drought 'till a month ago. Now we're drowning. It's been raining almost every day. So don't despair nature will come through. Thanks for the great scenery.
ReplyDeleteMyrna R.: I so hope you are right and the rain does come. Soon.
DeleteAnd another day breaks...I hope it doesn't shatter!
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to be getting showers over the next few days...I hope we do. No signs as yet. There was a reasonably gusty wind a-blowin' earlier, but it appears to have dropped now...not with a crash, I hope!
A hot shower is a-beckoning...the cats are a-snuggling after returning inside from their brief, morning scamper outdoors. All is well within my little corner of the world, particularly now that I heard the paper-man toss the "Sunday Mail" into my driveway!
I hope you and The Skinny One and your furry mates have a wonderful week, EC . :)
Lee: It is nice when the furry fiends come in again isn't it? And ours have settled too. Jewel is soaking in a patch of sun on the kitchen floor and Jazz is moulting in the wardrobe.
DeleteA great week ahead to you too.
Yep! It sure is nice when my furry rascals come back in again...until they do I don't relax. They're never out for very long...just long enough to check that everything is in order out there! ;)
Delete"Jazz is moulting in the wardrobe" ... please may I borrow this? It is so funny and SO TRUE for our cats as well! I think they have the ability to just "think" the fur off their bodies :)
Deletejenny_o: Of course you can borrow it. Everything in this house has a patina of black fur. Absolutely everything. And it gets in places I am pretty sure they don't go (under the toilet seat for example) as well as everywhere they do go.
DeleteThank you! Yes, the fur gets everywhere. And then some.
DeleteSorry it didn't turn into rain. Amazing photos, though. That's the perfect paint job.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: I am always amazed at the incredible colours the sky can produce. Amazed and grateful.
DeleteWow! Well, those clouds were good for something, even if they didn't spit out much rain. Here's hoping you'll get some needed rain soon. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: It was a lovely sky - but I would have preferred the rain. Later this week. Maybe.
DeleteThat really was a beautiful sky! I'm glad you got in on film (or whatever it's called these days). :)
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: On disc? Or more often these days (though not for me) on camera.
DeleteAlas, nothing good ever seems to last long.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm annoyed that you gave me so many photos to choose from for my desktop.
DeleteSnowbrush: How inconsiderate of me. Perhaps you can rotate them. And, needless to say, I have more too.
DeleteIncredible layers of color in that sky, gorgeous! I hope you get your much needed rain soon.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: So much colour, so quickly over. Bliss though.
DeleteStunning is right. Wow!
ReplyDeleteWe've got the opposite problem in NZ. Too much rain. It's been pretty much relentless all week. Hope it heads your way soon.
Wendy: Some world wide weather moderation would be wonderful. Even parts of Oz are getting rain. Not us. Yet.
DeleteGorgeous- sorry it didn't rain much!
ReplyDeleteTerri: Thank you. I am still hopeful. Very hopeful.
DeleteA beautiful sunset. Our sun goes down behind too many trees for much notice.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Trees obscure the sunset (and sunrise) in the back yard, but if I go out the front I get the glory of both of them. And if I stand in the road I can often get some good photos.
DeleteSuch lovely shades of purple!!! Amazing. I am glad you got those pictures!
ReplyDeleteBookie: Not colours that many people can wear successfully - but the sky carries them off well.
DeleteClassic incontinent pigeon rain..who else has put these words together?
ReplyDeleteThough are there 'continent' pigeons? Beautiful sunsets. Too many trees to see ours without driving somewhere. Best sunsets? My brother lives high in the hills overlooking the Pacific. We've seen good ones there.
Sue in Italia/In the Land of Cancer: Pigeons appear remarkably unconcerned about their continence - or lack of it. They decorate the veranda and the camellias with much more than fell from the sky that day.
DeleteGlorious, worth the lack of precipitation to have that appear in your day. Fingers crossed you will get some rain soon, we've had some lovely wet stuff fall from the sky this weekend. Thanks for sharing this loveliness from your part of Aus. xxx
ReplyDeleteKakka: You have needed rain for so long that it must have been more than welcome. Still nothing here though - but the beauty was more than welcome.
DeleteOh, I hate it when the forecast and the sky collude to tease us with the promise of something and then don't deliver! But at least your consolation prize was gorgeous! It looks like the sky felt bad about withholding your much-needed rain, and did its best (well, its second-best) to make it up to you!
ReplyDeleteThis needs to be on SkyWatch Friday, too! :-)
Laloofah: You nailed it. Consolation prize is exactly how I thought of that sunset. Which really isn't fair.
DeleteI noticed browning footpaths this week and thought the same thing ~ we need rain. The days are already so bright and Summery up here ~ hot ~ where did Spring go? It was here last weekend and this weekend I have started looking for shade to park the car.
ReplyDeleteI think I like that last photo the best ~ the last breath of the sunset. You must still be getting some cool nights EC?
Carol in Cairns: We are still getting a couple of (light) frosts each week. The days are warming up fast though.
DeleteI liked the fade out of the sunset too. Less vibrant but still gorgeous.
Great sunsets pity about the rain and we have plenty to share.
ReplyDeleteMerle.........
Merlesworld: Send it this way. Please.
DeleteA classic incontinent pigeon rain... I have to remember that!
ReplyDeleteStunning pictures of the sunset. At least you got that. I know you would have loved the rain. We're in the same boat here, though oceans apart.
Carola Bartz: It seems really unfair that there is no weather moderation. Too much or too little seems to be MUCH more common than just enough.
DeleteGiggling at incontinent pigeon rain!
ReplyDeleteI love your photos, I prefer sunsets over sunrises, they are more richly hued, sunrises are often more delicately coloured.
We're having a sunshiny weekend, then more showers until Friday.
River: It really was like that. Splat, splat and then not another drop more. The paths didn't even get wet.
DeleteThere is no rain forecast here until Wednesday morning - which is when I will be doing the Out of the Shadows walk. And will still welcome the rain.
Deep sigh ♥
ReplyDeleteVicki: And from me.
DeleteWOW! beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTeresa: Wasn't it?
Delete: )
ReplyDeleteKaren: Big :).
DeleteWhat fantastic colours!
ReplyDeleteI hope that you get some rain soon, EC :)
Alexia: Showers predicted for Wednesday morning.
DeleteThat is one beautiful sunset! I could funnel you some Alabama rain, if you like. It has rained a bit for two weeks. Very rarely has it been dry all day or all night. However, there have been no gully washers. But, a hard ten-minute rain spoils my day. The hens go into their house and sit under their table. If they are out, they stand under a bush or the picnic table.
ReplyDeleteHere's wishing you rain.
Linda: I would love it if you could funnel some rain this way. Quite a lot of rain. The cats wouldn't like it - but they would be the only ones in this house.
DeleteAwe, glorious sunsets!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: It was. Really, really glorious.
DeleteFire in the sky. Brilliant.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: It was brilliant - literally and metaphorically.
DeleteAmazing photos. Love the various changes in the sky.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: Welcome and thank you. I do love the way the sky changes - by the minute and sometimes by the second.
DeleteIt is so dry here so I understand the need for rain. However, since it didn't give you rain, I like what you got to compensate.
ReplyDeleteditchingthedog: Laloofah put it beautifully. That sunset was a consolation prize - and a good one.
DeleteSpectacular sunset colors! Clouds can be fascinating to watch as they streak by. Pigeon rain is the pits. It's not only unhelpful, it's dreary as well. Of course, I'll trade you the pigeon rain for the one-count lightning strikes... :)
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: Our pigeon rain didn't even last long enough to be dreary. It was a pigeon on speed with other things to do, and places to go.
DeleteNot a fan of thunder and lightening though.
Wow, the colours in that sky! Spectacular. Hope you get your rain soon.
ReplyDeleteJackie K: No rain yet. Soon. Please.
DeleteThose colors are magical, amazing, surreal.
ReplyDeleteLove and Blowing kisses from Minnesota for you and black panthers. xx
Ps. I am liking Heartsick. Surprised that the writing is good :)
My Inner Chick: Surreal is another very good description of that sky. And I am very, very glad that you are liking Heartsick. The writing is good isn't it? Not a comfortable read though.
DeleteThat rainbow sherbet sky is a stunner, for sure.
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing the beauty and for being
always watching:)
-jennifer
Jennifer Richardson: I am a beauty addict. And happy to share.
DeleteDespite my love of animals, and the beauty of those flowers of yours, it's the sunsets you capture that hold my heart in their beautifully hued hands. This set in particular are wonderous. We just don't get these colours over here at all. Envious, but loving every one. *smiles.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: We are lucky. We get some beautiful sunsets, and some delicate dawns to greet the new day. Quietly. Peacefully.
DeleteOooooh and oh! Very lovely.
ReplyDeleteKathleen Cassen Mickelson: It was. Very, very lovely.
DeleteSimply beautiful. I love the colors! So glad you captured and shared it!
ReplyDeleteCindi: Not the colours we usually get - but a joy.
DeleteWOW!!!! That sky is absolutely amazing. Colors are perfect. I love the sunsets, but I think you know that already. :)
ReplyDeleteAl Diaz: I did know that you loved the sunsets - and this one is entirely suitable for a dragon to soar through.
DeleteUnbelievable! I thought we had glorious sunsets here, and we do. But they're nothing in comparison to these spectacular photos.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you.
rawknrobyn: We have pleasant sunsets often - and every now and then the skies blaze and we get a stunner. Like this one.
DeleteHugs back. And chocolate.
Your sunsets are such different colours than what I am used to. Ours tend to be more peach or salmon than pink/lavender (not sure if lavender is the right term). I suppose it depends on what is in the atmospheric dust. Beautiful shots, especially with those huge trees silhouetted against the sky. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeletejenny_o: These weren't colours we often see either. We get yellows and oranges and deep, deep pinks but rarely these colours. Some of that lavender was verging on purple. So incredibly vivid. Not colours I would like to see many people wearing, but so very right in the sky.
DeleteIs "pigeon rain" a term or did you make it up. Splat, splat....we had some of that.
ReplyDeleteGrannie Annie: I made it up - but it is a term I will continue to use. And I love your addition too.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous sight. Fills me with calm just by looking at them. Thank you always for sharing your beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteRaquel Somatra: It was incredible to see too. Vibrant, and yes, peaceful.
Deletesunsets/rises are a photographer's gift
ReplyDeleteR. Mac Wheeler: Everyone's gift. Or everyone with the eyes to marvel at them.
DeleteThose are beautiful! We were promised rain as well...didn't happen...most of the year I'd be cheering that, but pollen is relentless.
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: I hear you. I am sneezing relentlessly here. I don't even know that the culprit is.
DeleteGreetings human, Sue,
ReplyDeleteThose photos are stunning. It looks a lot like the views I get out of my human Gary's windows in his new place. I do hope you got some rain, my kind; human friend.
Pawsitive wishes,
Penny :)
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!: I am very glad to hear that you, and your human, get such wonderful views from Gary's new home.
DeleteNo rain yet. Grey today though.
The sky on fire...how breathtakingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOptimistic Existentialist: It was. Both of those things.
DeleteSuch a wonderful sky for us to enjoy together, friend!
ReplyDeleteALOHA from Honolulu
ComfortSpiral
=^..^=
Cloudia: As I enjoyed (so much) your sunset over the ocean today. Thank you.
DeleteBeautiful pictures. Incontinent pigeon rain? That is one I haven't heard before!
ReplyDeleteStephanie Faris: While you might not have heard the term, I am sure you have experienced the phenomena.
DeleteWow - what a stunning sunset!
ReplyDeleteladyfi: It was a joy.
DeleteWhat stunning photographs, Sue!
ReplyDeleterhymeswithplague: My point and shoot captured a stunning moment. A stunning series of moments.
DeleteSuch shameless beauty! A darkening sky changes from sunset to flamingo glory, and then to shy pink. So worthy of ceasing every other activity and stand taking in such a memory!
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I am more than happy to stop everything for moments of beauty. And do.
DeleteWow - that is a spectacular sunset! Oh - to see that in person...
ReplyDeleteLynn: It was. It was over very quickly but lives in my heart. And here.
DeleteGorgeous!!! And I love "incontinent pigeon rain"! I may steal the description :) That's the kind we often get. I can relate because we need rain badly, too.
ReplyDeleteCarol Kilgore: Feel free to steal the incontinent pigeon rain. We had some of the real stuff last night - which was bliss.
DeleteGosh, I love your shots of dawn and dusk. The tree in silhouette against those colors is so lovely.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: Thank you.
DeleteSoosie these are beautiful pictures
ReplyDeleteDonna@Gardens Eye View: It was a beautiful sight to see.
DeleteWow stunning pics!
ReplyDeleteSonya Ann: Welcome - and thank you.
DeleteThose colors are so brilliant. So beautiful. Thank you for sharing! :)
ReplyDeletefurrybottoms: It was an incredible sky. One of a kind.
DeleteI think only WOW covers those beautiful photos of a fantastic sunset. Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteMimsie: Wow was what I thought when I saw it.
Delete
