Sunday Selections #188

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  One day this week we were promised rain.  Late in the afternoon the clouds started rolling in, and I started getting excited.  We really, really need the rain.

Which didn't happen.  Classic incontinent pigeon rain.  Splat, splat and it was gone.  However, the cloud cover did give us a stunning sunset.  It didn't last long - less than five minutes, but it was beautiful.

  3. omg these photos should be put onto canvas, have you ever done that with your photos, a great way to add art to your home with your own photos.

    1. Linda Starr: There are some of our photos (the skinny one and mine) on the walls but we haven't gone down the canvas path. Yet. Mind you, the walls are nearly as crowded as the rest of the house.

  4. Gorgeous sunset. We were in drought 'till a month ago. Now we're drowning. It's been raining almost every day. So don't despair nature will come through. Thanks for the great scenery.

  5. And another day breaks...I hope it doesn't shatter!

We're supposed to be getting showers over the next few days...I hope we do. No signs as yet. There was a reasonably gusty wind a-blowin' earlier, but it appears to have dropped now...not with a crash, I hope!

A hot shower is a-beckoning...the cats are a-snuggling after returning inside from their brief, morning scamper outdoors. All is well within my little corner of the world, particularly now that I heard the paper-man toss the "Sunday Mail" into my driveway!

I hope you and The Skinny One and your furry mates have a wonderful week, EC . :)

    1. Lee: It is nice when the furry fiends come in again isn't it? And ours have settled too. Jewel is soaking in a patch of sun on the kitchen floor and Jazz is moulting in the wardrobe.
A great week ahead to you too.

    2. Yep! It sure is nice when my furry rascals come back in again...until they do I don't relax. They're never out for very long...just long enough to check that everything is in order out there! ;)

    3. "Jazz is moulting in the wardrobe" ... please may I borrow this? It is so funny and SO TRUE for our cats as well! I think they have the ability to just "think" the fur off their bodies :)

      Delete
    4. jenny_o: Of course you can borrow it. Everything in this house has a patina of black fur. Absolutely everything. And it gets in places I am pretty sure they don't go (under the toilet seat for example) as well as everywhere they do go.

      Delete
    5. Thank you! Yes, the fur gets everywhere. And then some.

Though are there 'continent' pigeons? Beautiful sunsets. Too many trees to see ours without driving somewhere. Best sunsets? My brother lives high in the hills overlooking the Pacific. We've seen good ones there.

  17. Oh, I hate it when the forecast and the sky collude to tease us with the promise of something and then don't deliver! But at least your consolation prize was gorgeous! It looks like the sky felt bad about withholding your much-needed rain, and did its best (well, its second-best) to make it up to you!

This needs to be on SkyWatch Friday, too! :-)

  18. I noticed browning footpaths this week and thought the same thing ~ we need rain. The days are already so bright and Summery up here ~ hot ~ where did Spring go? It was here last weekend and this weekend I have started looking for shade to park the car.

I love your photos, I prefer sunsets over sunrises, they are more richly hued, sunrises are often more delicately coloured.

  23. That is one beautiful sunset! I could funnel you some Alabama rain, if you like. It has rained a bit for two weeks. Very rarely has it been dry all day or all night. However, there have been no gully washers. But, a hard ten-minute rain spoils my day. The hens go into their house and sit under their table. If they are out, they stand under a bush or the picnic table.

    Here's wishing you rain.

  27. Spectacular sunset colors! Clouds can be fascinating to watch as they streak by. Pigeon rain is the pits. It's not only unhelpful, it's dreary as well. Of course, I'll trade you the pigeon rain for the one-count lightning strikes... :)

    1. River Fairchild: Our pigeon rain didn't even last long enough to be dreary. It was a pigeon on speed with other things to do, and places to go.

  36. Your sunsets are such different colours than what I am used to. Ours tend to be more peach or salmon than pink/lavender (not sure if lavender is the right term). I suppose it depends on what is in the atmospheric dust. Beautiful shots, especially with those huge trees silhouetted against the sky. Thanks for sharing them.

    1. jenny_o: These weren't colours we often see either. We get yellows and oranges and deep, deep pinks but rarely these colours. Some of that lavender was verging on purple. So incredibly vivid. Not colours I would like to see many people wearing, but so very right in the sky.
