Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. And this week I am continuing my lazy streak. Corellas. Again. But this pair melted my heart. My anthromorphic self was sure that they were in lurv. And we watched them for a long time. A very, very long time.
Rather a lot of photos follow.

Adorable, intelligent birds. I wonder what my cat Juno would say if those showed up outside the window instead of magpies =)
ReplyDeleteCrimsonAnna: I suspect Juno would say pretty much what Jazz n Jewel say. 'Are they for us?' 'Want, want, want...'
DeleteI suppose so =) That's what she says now =)
DeleteCrimsonAnna: Ours respect our magpies though.
DeleteThey are truly magnificent and very attentive towards each other ... yes, I agree, it must be love. Sweet *
ReplyDeleteWhisper Mist: We really did watch them for a very long time. They were so attentive to each other, and and so gentle. And at intervals it looked as if they were whispering in each other's ears...
Deletethe parrot family are all such humorous birds that i can't take them seriously at all.
ReplyDeleteit's a great series of photos, well done!
kylie: More anthromorphism here. The parrot family always look as if they are enjoying life too. And play. Which is lovely to see.
Deleteawww...the sweetie pies
ReplyDeleteAuthor R. Mac Wheeler: Just what we thought.
DeleteThey are so beautiful, and like you say, clearly in luuuurv! What a treat to have them in your own backyard.
ReplyDeleteAnd sidetracking slightly, just hoping that things went well for you and the smaller portion on Friday. In my thoughts.
Wendy: All of these photos were taken in our lounge room - just looking out the window. And they were a treat.
DeleteOn the medical mayhem front? Probably no surgery. Which is excellent. The down side is that the surgeon indicated that he would have to live with the hernias (and any more that develop) because there isn't enough stomach muscle to repair. Which has made the smaller portion understandably unhappy. A further scan was taken and the surgeon will get back to us - but wasn't hopeful. And thank you so much for thinking of us.
Yes, I suspect I'd be somewhat unhappy too - to put it mildly. However, I am glad to hear that there will 'probably' be no further surgery. That's something I guess.
DeleteNow, back to the birds. Taken from your lounge window? What a heavenly view. Can't get much better than that.
Wendy: We spend a LOT of time looking out that window at the birds. As do the cats.
DeleteAt minimum, completely at ease in the other's company. But, isn't that love.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Completely at ease - and happy to do things for each other. And love doesn't get better than that.
DeleteAwe, they are preening each other, awe.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: They were. For a very long time. We watched them for over half an hour. And it was lovely.
DeleteThey certainly look like they're in love. :D What a lovely view!
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: Wasn't it a treat? A good end to any day.
DeleteOh you peeping Toms! Fancy spying on a courting couple.
ReplyDeleteArija: They had no shame and yes, we did spy on them. With gratitude.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteLovely photos...made me think 'ahhhh'!
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: We did too. And the cats said 'yummmm'. And remained hungry.
DeleteCurrently, our major bird activity is Rainbow Lorikeets, making the most of the palm flowers. Amazingly, despite their screamingly bright plumage, they're very hard to spot in the palms.
ReplyDeleteMixed feelings on the medical front...
dinahmow: Very mixed feelings on the medical front.
DeleteI am always amazed at how well brightly coloured birds blend in to their environment. Our camellias are a perfect camouflage for the King Parrots and the Eastern Rosellas vanish as soon as they put their heads down in the grass.
They do look quite content, don't they? Pretty birds, for sure!
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: They looked very happy indeed. And were talking (gently) to each other as well. Which was lovely to see and hear.
DeleteSo sweet. It must be young love.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: I thought mature love because they didn't need to be as demonstrative as some some humans... Lovely to see though.
DeleteI think you're right, it certainly looks like bird-love to me!
ReplyDeleteRiver: And to us. We often see corellas canoodling. Much more often than the other birds who visit. And smile broadly every time.
DeleteSo pretty and so affectionate.
ReplyDeleteDelores: They were. They are. Such a treat for us to watch.
DeleteMore than a pigeon pair. :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best wishes for the coming week, EC....and cuddles to Jewel and Jazz from Remy and Shama...and me. :)
Lee: The affection we see from pigeons is very one-sided and is obviously firmly grounded in lust. He dances and calls - and she ignores him.
DeleteAn excellent week to you, to Remy and Shama. Cuddles and hugs all round.
This is beyond adorable, I can't find a word for it.
ReplyDeleteBird-watching is one of the most satisfying past-times!
Guyana-Gyal: We spend a LOT of time watching the birds. And this pair won our hearts. It was an enchanting interlude.
DeleteYou are clearly correct - a loving and caring relationship personified (corellified??)
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots :)
Alexia: I love the term corellified. These were such gentle birds and yet our corellas are often feisty and happily challenge much bigger birds. And win.
DeleteAww...they're lovebirds!
ReplyDeleteStephanie Faris: They are, aren't they?
DeleteBeautiful birds! It must be so colorful there with all the different birds you have.
ReplyDeleteTeresa: Quite a lot of our birds are white - but all of them are welcome. And my favourites change with the wind...
DeleteOh, what adorable shots!
ReplyDeleteladyfi: Oh, what adorable birds...
DeleteOh, what beautiful photos and yes, I am sure you captured a true love story right there in your garden.
ReplyDeleteI love corellas and perhaps they are birds that pair for life. I'd like to think that this pair will have a long and happy life together.
Thank you so much for sharing this loving couple with us.
Mimsie: It was wonderful to see them. Even if their relationship is only for this season it was heart-warming. And I will have to investigate whether they do mate for life.
DeleteI don't know if they're in love, but there's an easy courtship narrative to poke at in these photos. Very cute, EC.
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: I have seen human courtships which looked less affectionate - and were definitely not as cute. So I am staying on my anthromorphic path...
DeleteEeeeeeeew! Those two birds made out!
ReplyDeleteMichael D'Agostino: They did. For a very long time.
DeleteI can see why there is such joy in photographing them. They are beautiful and loving birds.
ReplyDeleteGrannie Annie: I watch them much more often that I take photos. So much beauty, so much magic, so much charm...
DeleteI love the sequential feel to your lovely photos. I scrolled my screen up and down a few times to create the effect of a film. Marvellous.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
A Cuban in London: If I had been thinking I should have taken a video. And I love that you made your own - thank you.
DeleteI was pleased to read your response to Wendy, that there will probably be no surgery. I know he must not be happy with it, but what can they do? And there is nothing anthropomorphic about love, all creatures feel it! The birds are beautiful, and in love, no doubt. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: He isn't happy. But so many surgeries has worried me for some time. We will see what transpires.
DeleteQuite a lot of people will tell you/me/us that birds (and animals more generally) don't feel love. And I don't believe them. Liars with their pants on fire...
who doesn't love the birds in love; I think medical problems are the worst, wish there was a non invasive way to repair the hernias, good no surgery in a way though.
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: A mixed bag on the medical front it is true. With some positives - which is a nice change.
DeleteAnd the corellas are always a joy.
Pretty, pretty, luvie-duvies :)
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Lots of love. And they have been back on subsequent days - and are still showing as much affection. Which is lovely.
DeleteSuch beautiful birds, love the photos. Your photos always make me smile.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: Thank you - what a nice thing to tell me.
DeleteGorgeous, heavenly love birds.
ReplyDeleteMy heart leapt looking at the photos. xxxxx
My Inner Chick: As ours did, watching them.
DeleteAww ... I don't think it's being anthromorphic to see the kindness and affection between them - it's simply being observant!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine that both you and the SP are feeling ambivalent about the doctor's advice. It is hard to accept that modern medicine cannot fix something. On the other hand, in the attempt to do so, it can make things worse and that must be carefully remembered. A hard and perhaps heartbreaking choice to have to make. Wishing both of you wisdom and strength.
jenny_o: I find it easier to accept that the smaller portion - perhaps because I don't have to carry the pain. It is hard, but we have been locked into the surgery mode for too long - with very mixed results.
DeleteAnd watching the birds helps. A lot.
It makes me exceedingly happy that there really truly are love birds!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful beings.
Thanks for sharing,
Jennifer
Jennifer Richardson: They are beautiful aren't they? And I am more than happy to share their magic.
DeleteThey look so plush. What pretty birds, and they certainly appear to be fond of one another ;)
ReplyDeletemshatch: They are lovely birds, and their devotion to each other was wonderful to see. Healing even.
DeleteAw -- what humans can learn from the birds. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteRawknrobyn: We have an immense amount to learn from 'dumb' animals and from bird brains. If only we could. If only we would.
DeleteOMG, they are so cute!!! I would have watched them for hours. I definitely HAVE to go to Australia, I want to see this! I envy you like mad.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: There are lots of other birds and wildlife which are better known - but I have a huge soft spot for the corellas.
DeleteWhat a couple of soft sweeties. My anthropomorphic self whole heartedly agrees!
ReplyDeleteRaquel Somatra: It was even more interesting because Corellas are often 'bully-boys', and can be quite aggressive in their fight for the feeder.
DeleteI also made a film effect by clicking through the embiggen gallery and it works very well. They do look in love, and there's none to say we are wrong there. Beautiful birds.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: If we say it is love, love it is. And there isn't enough love in the world for us to ignore any of it.
DeleteAren't they gorgeous? It seems they were lost in an intimate moment when they realized they were being watched, haha. Last one is like one tells the other, "I think we're not alone." :) Dragon Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAl Diaz: I am pretty certain that they knew we were there all along - and just didn't care. And they are gorgeous. Very, very gorgeous. Hugs back to you.
DeleteThey act like an old married couple, comfortable with each other, happy together, gives me a longing inside.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I don't know many human relationships with that much trust and comfort... Some, but they are rare.
DeleteThese shots are adorable! These pictures are the reason that I can watch nature for hours on end. So sweet! :)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS: They are a part of the reason I can and do watch nature for hours. And hours, and hours.
DeleteThat is so cute! I make an exception to my bird aversion. And by lurv, you mean love, not lurvy, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: If the corellas have got past your bird aversion they are seriously cute!!! And yes, I did mean love.
DeleteThere's a store in town I never thought I'd visit. But I did and bought a bird feeder, some food and maybe soon I'll buy a pretty bird bath. I won't put the blame on you but you have had some influence.
ReplyDeleteAnd now that I'm a new convert and think i know all about birds, I concur that these two are definitely in love.
Myrna R.: You are walking a dangerous path. Our fondness for the birds who visit has rapidly become an expensive obsession. For which I feel less than no guilt or shame. Daily delight.
DeleteI don't think I'll ever catch up on blog posts I missed while I was away for Thanksgiving, but I'm so glad I didn't miss this one! Love birds - so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLynn: Your family break was way more important than the blogosphere - but I am really, really glad you enjoyed my loving corellas.
DeleteOh.... beautiful! They really do look like mates for life. How lovely to see them in such a state of companionable bliss :)
ReplyDeleteVicki: They are here most days at the moment. And always share a branch. Which is lovely.
DeleteAwwwww even cocktails share love.
ReplyDeleteFurry Bottoms. Rather a lot of love. And they make my heart melt every time I see them canoodling.
