Words for Wednesday

The lovely Delores at Under the Porch Light has been running this meme for a considerable period of time, week after week - even through the A to Z challenge.  Sadly she is having issues with her computer freezing on her (much as my brain does when faced with some of her words).  She has asked that someone take over on a temporary basis and I have stuck my hand up.
Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

This weeks prompts:

Cheer
Cart
Panoramic
Various
Devilish

OR

Tickle
Illustrious
Sound
Flavour
Psychedelic
Type

And for this week an additional prompt for you to use or discard.  This phrase popped into my head a few days ago, and I cannot get it to leave.

'drowning in sleep...'

  1. What a fun meme!

She didn't know she was going to tickle the illustrious prince, nor could she have predicted the sound his laughter would make. Maybe it was brought on by the lingering flavour of the wine, which seemed psychedelic
and made it gave her the courage to be more of the outgoing type.

The rest of the words have great potential.

  6. The cheer of the crowd roared as the cart came tumbling down the road. The panoramic view and the various colors in the sky should have left me feeling peaceful but my devilish nature gave me no rest. It was all but a dream and as I awoke I realized I had been drowning in sleep.

    I happily joined in :)

  11. Sliding into dreams of the psychedelic type, arm firmly across her eyes, protecting them from the late morning sun. Regretting, feebly, the late night spent in illustrious -and lusty- company, whilst the sound of cars humming along the freeway lulled her deeper... A faint, last, flavour of cherry liquer, the tickle of feline fur against her forearm, and she was gone; drowning in the sleep of the young and beautiful.

  15. The Cheer Cart announced its arrival noisily. Bells clanged from its eaves. A parrot chattered devilishly from its perch up front. Out front, its sole proprietor pulled the cart, rickshaw style, into town and set up business immediately as people were gathering round, anxious to buy. And why not? The news is always bad, it seems, from climate rages, to crime and gang warfare and poverty everywhere, still kicked into the shadows by some and denied outright by others. The Cheer Carts' various remedies were displayed in panoramic 360, on shelves that dropped down, two levels of them, all around the cart. Once the proprietor dropped down the shelves and slid open the windows on each side from inside, reached up and rang the big bell, the Cheer Cart was officially open for business. "Step up, ladies and gents, one and all. Are you down and out, depressed, sad, lacking energy to see yourself through today? Then the Cheer Cart has everything you might need! Step right up!" And step up they did.

  16. I admired the panoramic view from the hill before jumping in my cart and offering a devilish grin to the competitor next to me. There was a gunshot and I sped down the hill, dodging the various obstacles. A cheer erupted as I crossed the finish line first. My joy was short-lived as I went speeding into the lake. I struggled for a moment then my eyes opened. No water. I was only drowning in sleep.
And that is the first time I have ever written from a prompt.

  21. I woke up with a start. I felt like I’d been drowning in my sleep. I had an annoying tickle in my throat.

I think the remaining flavour and a little piece of nut from the devilish almond-filled dark chocolate I sneakily devoured before going to sleep not only caused the tickle, but it caused the type of psychedelic dream I found myself having. It was a dream filled with illustrious colours and sounds.

Wow! At one point I was being pushed in a cart by various strange people I didn’t recognise. A loud cheer went up as the strangers guided me along a winding, narrow mountain road surrounded by endless panoramic views.

    1. Lee: Oooh. I am glad that the strangers were less devilish than the chocolate and cheered you on. Love it.

  31. With a sleeping disorder that I have, "drowning in sleep" sounds really nice right about now.

Just wanted to let you know I'll still be stopping by and reading your blog as well as enjoying your magnificent photos. I have disabled comments on my page since I'm flooded with "spell casters to get back your ex" types of comments that are almost at book-length. It's gotten to be so much that it's not even worth having the comments anymore because it floods my email which goes straight to my phone. So I left the comment section in my Facebook page where I post. I know you're not a fan of Facebook. ;) But, I am still going to be visiting and saying hello! :)

    Hope you're doing well.

  33. Hi Sue,

Oh my, the additional thought along with word prompt theme. If when drowning in sleep. you are thrown a life jacket, rather than an anchor, there is something to be said for sleep. Sometimes, I think of sleep as the only freedom that I know.

    Be well, my kind friend.

I always found it devilish difficulty to choose between the various models on Panoramic cameras to know which one was the best to buy but finally I chose one, clicked the button adding it to my cart and give a cheer of relief.

I often wondered what type of person the illustrious Mr, Clarence Jones really was and in fact what would tickle his fancy as he was known to use psychedelic drugs altering his consciousness in the perception of artwork and sound effects in music.
