Ooh I do like that first dusk photo EC, and I am glad you found some joy in this past week. We can't ask for anything else. I snapped some photos of cockatoos myself this week, but haven't check what they look like yet.

The Happy Whisk: I am a big, big fan of potatoes and onion. And tomato and onion.
DeleteYum on both counts. I had a friend once that had a problem with eating tomatoes, something about the acid. So she would peel a big honkin' tater and place it in the tomato sauce pot, in efforts of draining the extra acid from the sauce, into the potato.
DeleteI don't know the science behind it or if it really worked but she felt better, anyway and that's good enough for me.
Banana crumble cake is now cooling ...
The Happy Whisk: I had trouble with tomatoes for a couple of years. I am very glad I can now enjoy them. A home grown tomato is bliss.

DeleteThe crumble cake didn't work due to the texture of the top. Back to the drawing board (good thing I enjoy the process of writing bakes).

DeleteYour precursor...what gave you joy this past week...made me think what gave me joy. Other than the birds, with their napkins at the ready alerting me of their presence every afternoon as they waited for their dinner before flying off to their nests to settle in to watch "Birds of a Feather" on their TVs, and, of course,, my two furry rascals, the sound of rain falling on the roof as I woke one morning during the week gave me a feeling of great joy.

They're all good. That first dusk picture is my favorite though!! That's a really wonderful picture.

DeleteYour dusk photos make me mentally start singing "Orange Colored Sky" They are gorgeous, but I honestly prefer the dawn photos. Maybe it is because I am such a night owl and just don't participate in a lot of dawns .

River: Our red leaved trees are slower this year. Some of the yellow leaves are carpeting the ground, and the red is just starting.
DeleteThis year seems to be very good for autumn colours, as your photos show. I wonder if that is a bad climatic sign. Watching cockatoos is one of life's simple pleasures. He or she must feel a little chilly with the feathers up around the beak.

DeleteI love your photos this week, EC, but then I always do. But there's something about that cockatoo that just made me smile. It's like he is saying, "this side?" "now, this side?" to make sure you got him from both angles. I'm sure his real motives were probably food-related, though :)
ReplyDeleteWe had more snow the past two days, and our poor robins fresh from the south are having a hard time of it. Even the birds that winter here were looking miserable today when I went for my walk. It was very cold!
jenny_o: The weather can be hard on our avian friends. Hot or cold. I always put out extra in winter, and in summer try to keep the water levels up.
DeleteMind you, snow is magic to me. Which is both because I rarely see it, and can get out of extremes of temperature.

ReplyDeleteCarol: We got a very little drizzle overnight. I hope we get more. We need more. It has been slow but the autumnal colour change is starting to happen. Lots of gold, but the reds and oranges are slower.

Your are so fortunate with your autumn colours in Canberra. We see so few in Perth and, after seeing so many in New Zealand year ago, I now know what we are missing.

DeleteWhat a darling cockatoo. I wish a bird such as he would perch in my northern hemisphere cherry tree and look in at me through the window. Your tree leaves turn to their dying colors while ours here, being spring, sprout, unfold and leaf out in glorious shades of green.
