Words for Wednesday

The lovely Delores at Under the Porch Light had been running this meme for a considerable period of time, week after week.   Computer issues led her to bow out for a while and I took over.  When Delores' absence looked like being more permanent I begged and cajoled for other volunteers to share providing the prompts, and Words for Wednesday became a movable feast.  Sadly Delores has (temporarily I hope) discontinued her blog, though we have been told that she will be back in the fullness of time.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

This month the prompts will be published here - but are provided by Mark Koopmans.  Because Mark was so generous there are three sets of prompts to choose between this week

This weeks prompts are:

  1. Disney
  2. emojis
  3. Fashionista

  1. Okay, here goes nothing again......

I didn't want to wallow in my sorrow just because the spindle had broken on my bike. So I grabbed a Bratwurst at the corner deli and headed home. Once home I got down on my knees looking under my bed for the suitcase I'd used on my trip to Trinidad. Pulling it out, I found an envelope had been taped to the top of it. Image my surprise to find a gift card from Victoria's Secret inside. Who had been in my house, in my bedroom and under my bed?

    1. Mason Canyon: Nothing? Wash your mouth out. This is an intriguing snippet. The thought of a stranger in my house and my bedroom freaks me out though. Even if it is a gift giving stranger.

    2. A gift giving stranger is freaky, maybe a peeping tom waiting for you to try on whatever you buy from Victoria's Secret. Remember to close your curtains!

  2. Hi human, Sue,

Apawlogies for my notable absence! I have had a read through your other pawsts. Been so busy looking after my human that it's taking me ages to get to blogs.

Anyhow, interesting prompts and a notable effort by Mason Canyon who looks remarkably like a cat.

Have fun and I must go now...

    Pawsitive wishes, your way,

  4. When I was in high school, I was quite the fashionista. In fact I was voted "Best Dressed" my senior year. Now I have my hair in a mom bun and am languishing in the car waiting on the blooming carpool line to move before someone notices I have on a Disney Princess tee and pajama bottoms with hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil emojis. Feeling like an afternoon pickup slug mama.

  5. 'ebonics'????
oddly enough, on my way home today, I was thinking I might put 'deity' in one of my lists next month.
now if someone can please tell me what 'ebonics' is, I'll be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  6. aha! Thank you, Google.
Put very simply, Ebonics is black English or English as spoken by Black people. The word is a combination of 'ebony' (black) and phonics (sounds). There are examples and much longer explanations of what Ebonics is and how it came to be known and accepted, on many of the google pages.

  7. Victoria's Secret was well hidden. Very well hidden. Only two people were in on it. Herself and the pompous doctor who told her that she had less than three months to live and to get her affairs in order. He tapped his fat bratwurst fingers on his table and obviously expected her to be brought to her knees by the diagnosis. She heard him, but refused to be wallow in self pity.
She was going to go out in style. The Zombie Apocalypse Run aimed to raise fund for the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society and she was going to make more money than they had ever seen. She smiled. Her spindle legs were perfect for her chosen costume as a skeleton. She was going to run - and triumph.

  9. First set of words used. May be more to follow!!

It’s a proven fact: DISNEY fans ❤ EMOJIS. Why else would we use them to express our excitement and make tributes to our favourite Disney films using these adorable little tech treasures?

There are five of us that are so obsessed with ‘All things Disney’ that once a week we CARPOOL to the student’s union, dressed in the latest FASHIONSITA of a Disney character. LANGISHING on the couches, we SLUG copious cans of beer while seeing who can communicate by sending the greatest number of emojis in a text message.

  10. Hi EC – I don’t know what some of those words mean! I like Wallow … so I’ll go in that direction …

I’m wallowing in how to explain to my agent that the muscle spindles are the sensory receptors within the belly of a muscle that primarily detect change – this is happening in my knees.

Modelling now for Victoria’s Secret would be difficult with spindly knees … would the Trinidadian agent understand … or will I need to ply him and his researchers with varieties of Bratwurst to satisfy their distant cravings for sausage.

I’m happy to wallow, modelling for Victoria’s Secret doesn’t appeal, and by wallowing I can rest my Spindly Knees … I might go to Trinidad for recuperation … but will they have Bratwurst to satisfy my German roots?

That's me done ... a right mix!! Cheers Hilary

  13. 2nd story with 2nd use of words.

Of I went to look for a new pair of REEBOK trainers at ‘Sports Special’. My husband had told me the prices had been SLASHED which is always good news. Just before leaving my husband shouted to me, “You need a new bra but make sure the KNOCKERS’ HOLDER is strong enough to be able to cope with the running you do”! Cheeky sod!

Anyhow, I was greeted by a nice African American guy with a gorgeous smile. ‘Yo’ he said. followed by “Sup?. I smiled not having a notion what he said. 'drizzel’ he siad. I nodded and smiled even more. Now I know he was speaking EBONICS however I was not familiar with that language. Then I saw his eyes land on my bosom and he exclaimed, ‘Oh my GAWD!

I do not like anyone taking God’s name in vain especially over my boobs, so I quickly made a speedy retreat from the store. I think I had better buy a more uplifting and stronger bra like my husband suggested!!

  15. My 3rd and final story ussingthe 3rd set of words PLYS the word Deity which I forgot to include in my last story above!! Senior momnet!

Ever since my friend Victoria from TRINIDAD lost her only child and daughter several years ago, she has done nothing but WALLOW in grief. She spent hours on her KNEES praying to her DEITY to give her another child. Then one day her prayers were answered. She was overjoyed to discover she was pregnant.

Like during her last pregnancy, she craved BRAYWURST sausages during her last 30 weeks which her husband had a job keeping her supplied with.

VICTORIA’S SECRET, even from her husband was that she really wanted another daughter so much so that she had consulted a lady that said she could tell her. The lady used a toy shield and a toy SPINDLE to be able to determine the sex of the unborn child. She hung these just over Victoria’s bump. She told her that whichever one moved in a circle, would let them know the answer. Only the toy SPINDLE moved and Victoria was told she was having a girl. She was over the moon and promptly told her husband when he had returned home from work. He was not pleased that she had consulted this lady as he did not believe in all this hocus pocus! He preferred to leave the gift of life to God.

However Victoria set about, in the last 4 weeks of her pregnancy to decorate the baby’s bedroom pink and buy beautiful little pretty dresses.

All was ready for this little baby girl and when the baby was delivered, she was so shocked because it was a boy!

    THE FROG VACATION

    Mr. and Mrs. Frog lived
In a log that was hollow.
    It gave shelter
    And a place to WALLOW.

    Mrs Frog rolled some string
    For crafts on a SPINDLE
    While Mr. Frog sat quietly
Reading a book on his Kindle.

    Travel thoughts filled him
    As dinner came first.
    He had Mrs. Frog barbeque
    Delicious juicy BRATWURST.

    He strained to help.
    It caused him to wheeze.
    He had tried to kneel
    But frogs don't have KNEES.

    The only thing left
    That might make them glad
    Would be to leave
    On a vacation to TRINIDAD.

    First to VICTORIA'S SECRET
An important stop for Mrs. Frog.
    As then they waved goodbye
    To the hollow log.
