Sunday Selections #282

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  This week?  Morning magic.  I am an early riser.  A very early riser.  Which is the result of pain, insomnia and habit rather than virtue.

In the sky:

I was intrigued by the layers that morning...

 In the garden:

The cats really don't like a frosty start to the day.  HImself says we should get them some little ugh boots.

They don't like rain either.  Wussy cats.

Lots of birds visit early too.  Some of them include:

Wattle birds (whose asthmatic and far from musical call often wakes me up well before sparrow fart).

Sparrows.

And a crimsom rosella with a fist full of the apple which the cockatoos had thrown on the ground.

Getting up early may not have been my choice originally, but I have grown to love it...

    3. River: I have tried that. The cats don't think I should go back to bed. They trot back inside and get me up again.

Your photos are beautiful, the sky and the birds especially. The red bird is gorgeous!

  4. I love getting up early too, but don't do it often enough because I am always struggling on broken sleep through the night. I would definitely hibernate through your Winter EC.

You can keep your temperatures. I like our current ones much better.

  8. The cloud formation looks like there is wind about. We don't really see frosts anymore. I used to like crunch of grass when it was covered in frost. Wattle birds are a pain and so aggressive towards other birds.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Andrew: Wattle birds aren't only aggressive to other birds. They have dive bombed the cats and sworn at me. Often. And I have just been out playing in a good frost - and loving it.

  9. And I'm loving this chillier weather, too...we're not as cold up here as you guys are down that way, but the temps certainly have dropped and it's about time. I'm lapping it up while it lasts. Remy and Shama are loving snuggling up close and personal, too. And I enjoy them snuggling up as well...we three keep each other warm...it's a three-way street! :)

Have yourself a good week, EC...stay warm...cuddles to your two rascals. :)

I'm picturing you trying to get ugg boots on Jazz (*~*)

  18. I am not an early riser but sometimes I happen to be up briefly when the sun comes up, so I get to see it now and then. Your skies are so beautiful in these photos, as is the frost. And I love the birds you show us. I like the SP's idea of boots for the cats - just the idea, though, as I think I know what reaction actual boots would get.

  22. I am a night person so miss all the delights you find in your early morning wanderings so thank you for sharing them.
We don't have sparrows in W.A. they are forbidden!!!!
As we are only a couple of km from the coast we don't have frost and I rather miss it at times. Used to enjoy it when I lived further inland (on the other side of the city). Our hoses used to freeze and cars were hard to start too.
We have wattle birds but even with them, the magpies and crows it is seldom bird call wakes me up. I tent not to sleep well till about 4am and then I go into a deep sleep and often feel I could sleep till past noon. Perhaps one day I will just for the joy of it. :)

  36. I get up early too. Originally, I got up to make sure my youngest was fed for school, clean clothes, etc. But now that he's older, I'm doing it for a different reason. I get up early to enjoy the sunrise, take pictures of it and then settle in to write before anyone else is up.
It's only a drag when I want to sleep in.

  37. Cats enjoy such creature comforts. Cold, rain---ugh. Boots? I don't think so. Good luck there, getting them in their little booties before they exit. Sparrow farts? That's not a pleasant thing to consider. But I'm sure it happens. Too rich a diet and that's what happens.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Strayer: Up before sparrow fart is British/Australian slang for up very, very early. I suppose birds do fart, but can't say I have experienced it. Unlike cat farts.

It really is a very touching emotional experience to discover another lifeform is trying to contact you in some small way - I think somehow the creature cares and just wants to share something unique with us - the human. All we can do is be friendly and offer food.
