Like River I usually run with a theme. This week I am returning to Floriade, and focussing on the quirky and/or fun elements.
This small pond was full of tulips - which I assume are illuminated for NightFest (which we don't go to because it is crowded and expensive).
There was no information about this lonely, severely undernourished and I think beautiful, horse.
I kept expecting this statue to topple over.

That statue is just... odd. Was there any explanation for it?

DeleteWonder why they'd depict a man doing that? In first picture I thought it a cricketer taking a catch and then in second realised he had arms folded...strange!

Mimsie: If you enlarge the photo before the sculpture it shows a 'rationale' for it. Which makes less than no sense to me. I am glad you enjoyed the rest though.
DeleteThat horse is beautiful, we agree on that and he does look hungry and somewhat saddened with his head down. If I'd had a hand in his making the covering would be filled with grass seeds to sprout and grow him a coat.

ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I really don't know how that sculpture stays upright. The balance is incredible - and loved the horse. The clothes are not practical, but some of them are lovely just the same.

DeleteOur local arts council had an artist design and build mules to place around the country. Businesses could then buy the mules and have them painted to represent the business. It was a unique way business could support the arts council. It was a beautiful and successful venture.

Deletekylie: I am pretty certain it wasn't anchored in the ground. And we have had so much rain that the ground is very soft and it would have pulled free - unless cemented in, and it is a temporary installation.

DeleteI love, love, love the horse! He/she looks so real! And that almost falling over backwards statue...amazing! We have a park not too far from where I live with similar kinds of art. I haven't been there in years. It's kind of a long drive, and there are so many other places that are "kind of a long drive," that it's hard to get to very many! :) I also like the flowery dresses. I still have the pretty Floriade magnet you sent me a couple of years ago. It has a special place with my other refrigerator magnets!

ReplyDeleteStrayer: I don't think the backwards statue was secured at the feet. It is only a temporary installation and the ground looks undisturbed. I think it was a question of balance. And am blown away.
