Sunday Selections #295

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.  Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

Like River I usually run with a theme.  This week I am returning to Floriade, and focussing on the quirky and/or fun elements.

This small pond was full of tulips - which I assume are illuminated for NightFest (which we don't go to because it is crowded and expensive).

There was no information about this lonely, severely undernourished  and I think beautiful, horse.

I kept expecting this statue to topple over.

The return of the pansy Dalek 'Propagate, progagate...'

The Floriade fashion week - created by the Canberra Institute of Technology's floristry students.

And an oval mystery, enjoyed by a handful of children.

There is always room in my world for fun.

  4. There should be room in the world for fun and happiness and love only, I believe!! If only...

Those who contribute to the Floriade exhibits have wild and wonderful imaginations.

Have yourself a fun and happy week, EC...and cuddles to your two furry landlords! :)

  9. Fun stuff! I love the propagating Dalek, and the horse too! Although he does look rather down - a bit blue, in fact...

We have had so much rain that I am expecting our little town to slip off its elevated site and end up in the sea. Have a lovely week, EC!

    1. Alexia: Love your blue horse comment. How did I not think of that?
I don't know that the organisers see the pansy tower as a Dalek, but I do.
I hope your rain eases off and your town remains stable.

  10. That statue is just... odd. Was there any explanation for it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Alex J. Cavanaugh: The explanation on the billboard leaves me totally flummoxed. I don't understand it. It is, if anything, even weirder than the statue.

  18. That is one sad, lonely-looking horse. Good color choice for him! :) Quite the whimsy with the dresses and I love how they decked out the piano.

  19. Wonder why they'd depict a man doing that? In first picture I thought it a cricketer taking a catch and then in second realised he had arms folded...strange!
Lots of lovely things done with flowers and thanks for sharing some fun stuff with us.

    1. Mimsie: If you enlarge the photo before the sculpture it shows a 'rationale' for it. Which makes less than no sense to me. I am glad you enjoyed the rest though.

  20. That horse is beautiful, we agree on that and he does look hungry and somewhat saddened with his head down. If I'd had a hand in his making the covering would be filled with grass seeds to sprout and grow him a coat.
I like the tulips in the water and they do look as if they would be lit at night, making a pretty display.

    1. River: A grass coat would be entirely appropriate with Floriade too.

  24. Our local arts council had an artist design and build mules to place around the country. Businesses could then buy the mules and have them painted to represent the business. It was a unique way business could support the arts council. It was a beautiful and successful venture.

    1. Granny Annie: I am pretty certain it would take more than a push. Lots of children at Floriade would ensure that. Incredible isn't it?

  38. Interesting place. I wonder what it woul be like to wear one of those fashions and how often does the model have to be watered,

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: I expect those fashions would be acutely uncomfortable to wear. Heavy, and probably itchy. And the watering would need to be quite regular. Misting on the hour?

  48. I love, love, love the horse! He/she looks so real! And that almost falling over backwards statue...amazing! We have a park not too far from where I live with similar kinds of art. I haven't been there in years. It's kind of a long drive, and there are so many other places that are "kind of a long drive," that it's hard to get to very many! :) I also like the flowery dresses. I still have the pretty Floriade magnet you sent me a couple of years ago. It has a special place with my other refrigerator magnets!
