Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week, like most of the world, I am still at home. I can get into the garden, and I can go for walks in the neighbourhood. And I do.
I first heard of the 'Teddy bear Hunt' on line. People are encouraged to put bears in their windows to brighten the days of children who are limited by the lockdown protocols. My inner child is alive and well so I had to hunt in my own street.
My bears have left the building leaving me only 'pink puppy' who is small and can no longer stand up.
Why 'pink' puppy I hear you ask? I chose pink puppy myself, before I was two. My parents lined up a selection of stuffed toys and let me take my pick. I chose pink puppy - who wasn't either of my parents first choice. They shuffled the toys and let me choose again. And repeated the process. When I still chose pink puppy he came home with us. And went everywhere with me for a number of years. Everywhere included a hospital trip. When I was vilely sick on him (coming round from an anaesthetic) the nurses sterilised him and his colour faded. He was still much loved and has lived in every house I have.
Teddy bear pickings are fairly limited in my street so far, so I will continue the hunt.
And of course I have been revelling in the sky. In all her moods.
The garden has claimed a lot of my time too (and will get even more this week since as I was preparing this post 500 mixed daffodil and jonquil bulbs were delivered).
As you can see from the last photograph, autumn is here. In the next little while I will wander around and take photos of the aboreal fireworks on display.

DeleteLove the bear hunt photos; I think any stuffed animals would do the trick. I've been trying to decide whether to put anything in the windows. Here they would be ruined by the sun as the front of our house faces south. I shouldn't be such a miserable old git, as John Gray would say :)

It's a lovely idea, but would be useless here at my little abode. No one would see anything I put up...plus Remy and Shama wouldn't think too kindly about having to share their couple of window sills with a stuffed teddy or the like! Teddy would come off second best! :)

DeleteWe have teddy bears in the windows here, too. Nearly every house I walk past on my daily outings has at least one bear in a window. The only bear left living in our house is one which goes on a hand, and was so intensely loved by both our children that he is very tatty indeed, and completely unable to stand up. So a dog and a morepork (native owl) inhabit our window.

Also we have been asked to turn a light on outside and or light a candle inside at 8pm for all the essential workers, including cleaners and farmers who grow the food we eat.
Margaret D: I had heard about the candle in the window - but it is cooling down rapidly here and I haven't gone out to check. We have an outside light on. The essential workers certainly deserve recognition. Including those struggling at Centrelink under impossible numbers.

I've seen a few teddies in windows, but hesitate to take photos in case the home owner chases me away for invading privacy. one house I walk past daily has a giant teddy about a metre tall perched on the front porch.

DeleteThis teddy bear display is not something I have heard of here, but perhaps it occurs unknown to me. I will be sure to go for a walk along the street and gawk at people's windows. There are a few families on the street with young children so I may get a pleasant surprise. I don't have teddies but I do have stuffed birds left over from when the grandchildren were young, and I think that would be an acceptable substitute. Maybe we could all join forces and have a menagerie!

DeleteThat is a delightful thing to do for the children. I haven't seen that done around here. The local fire company did come down the street with an Easter Bunny and Spotted dog for a mini Easter parade for the kids.

No teddy bears on my street so far.... its a seniors street and I don't think they have any teddy bears.. Or any children walking along to spot them in the windows.
ReplyDeleteI still have Bluey (a bear) who isnt very blue any more, more like grey. And Teddina (another bear) who was made by my mum when I was very little.
Shammickite: Our street is mixed. Plenty of seniors (though many are doting grandparents) and a few young families. I was quite surprised to see so few teddy's in residence. Further investigation required. I love that Bluey has had his colour loved away and of course you kept Teddina.

DeleteThat is a lovely idea of placing a teddy in windows but there are no small children in my road and I am sure you might remember I do have quite a collection of Teddies and two are enormous. You sky images are beautiful and like you I love my garden and certainly because of this isolation and good weather we have been having I have been working in it most days although also doing my early morning walks and then coming back to teach my bird class something about birds which has been very successful and appreciated but a lot more work for me. DeleteThose teddy bears are a world wide thing I guess. We do that here, too, and I enjoy seeing all the bears and other stuffed animals in the window. We also howl at 8 pm in my neighborhood!

People here often wonder whether getting into the warm season will help - I don't have an answer for that. Australia's numbers look so much better than ours, but then our "leadership" did ignore the threat for several weeks and lost precious time.

DeleteI really don't know what will happen here in winter, but we are certainly being urged to get our flu shots early. I suspect that if you were unlucky enough to catch Covid 19 AND the flu you would be in serious trouble. As always your country's leadership worries me - not least when he is encouraging people to break the social distancing rules before the requirements his own government set have been met. Scary times.
My middle daughter took me for a little tour of the teddies and rainbows on our way home from an appointment last week. I loved it and have put a family of teddies in my window, which realistically will only be seen by the grandies when they are able to visit and the postie if he has something to bring to the door. I loved seeing the rainbows too, a beaut sense of community and good for children and adults I think.

ReplyDeleteI still have my second "original" teddy bear. Apparently I got the first one as a baby, and chewed it to death. My parents replaced it with an identical one when I was two. Poor Teddy didn't hold up nearly as well as your pink puppy. He's had an almost-complete body transplant, and Mom had to embroider his face back on after I chewed it off. Even today, it's not safe to reach in front of me while I'm eating... ;-)
Diane Henders: I was walking when I chose pink puppy - but probably not by much. I suspect I was more interested in stealing the dog's food (dog biscuits were apparently good) than gnawing on pink puppy. Mind you, he is eyeless.

That is catching on over here. The first time I heard about it was Easter Egg hunts where people would put an Easter Egg in their windows. And then I saw where bears were introduced. DeleteI love that you went on the teddy bear hunt in your neighborhood! We've got a few, as well. I've been trying to figure out how I could keep my giant, five-foot teddy bear in the front window without it falling out.
