Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. Sometimes I repeat those themes. Again and again.
So, just for a change I am revisiting Floriade Reimagined (which finishes today) and our own garden. Today I taking you back to the Erindale Centre's take on Floriade. Flowers will take a back seat though. Concurrent with the display of spring blooms they held a scarecrow festival. The scarecrows were made by community groups, by schools, by individuals. And there is ALWAYS room for quirky fun in my world.
I spotted some more beauty and fun on my walk down to the scarecrow festival as well.
The bear in this car was simply huge - and apologies for the reflections in the car window.
Speaking of our garden, I have (of course) also included a few shots from home.

ReplyDeleteFunny someone put a bear in the passenger seat. One of our baseball teams put bears like that one all over the stadium so it looked like people were there. The best play was one of the bears getting popped in the head by a foul ball.
Alex J. Cavanaugh: The bear is in the drivers seat. I don't think that car is going anywhere anytime soon. I would have loved to have seen the bear popped in the head by a foul (poor bear).
DeleteI love those scarecrows. I see every now and then, when catching cats for people, scarecrows they've made out of tin cans. They are so creative. So I like those brightly painted "small bucket" scare crows a lot and am thinking I might make one, now that the rains have hit here, for fun. There's something about a dandelion seed head too, that is intricate and beautiful! Also, I love the magpies too. I hope you find some for your garden.

Caterina: I liked the scarecrows too. There were some very different takes on the theme. We had rain at just the right time and my garden is loving it. The weeds are too.
DeleteMy favorites are the bucket scarecrow and the one with all the scarves that look like feathers. Yes, I love lots of color. ;)

DeleteI love the scarecrows. I once made a scarecrow, dressed her up and sat her in the corner with her legs crossed in a chair on my front porch. She wore a pair of my long boots. She startled everyone who came to the front door as she was partly hidden. It was so worth it to listen to their comments afterword.

DeleteThe Scarecrow Festival was held up here on the mountain in September...lasting a couple of weeks. Reportedly, throughout this rather small area that is Tamborine Mountain, there were over 300 scarecrows smiling at those passing by.

DeleteThe ruffly pink flowers are blossom from the ornamental cherry tree in our back yard - and the yellow and white flowers are dutch iris. A similar patch of deep blue and white is coming out near them.
It's all lovely. And I like the nod to Pandemic Facemasks. And those metal maggies!

Your post has taken me on a trip down memory lane! The scarecrows remind me of bonfire night and of Worzel Gummidge. The large teddy reminds me of being a teenager and buying my little sister a very large teddy. When I took it on the bus the conductor smiled that I'd have to pay half fare for it. He smiled even more, along with others on the bus, when I said that teddy was under three and therefore free. Your garden is absolutely beautiful.

I would love to add a beautiful bear like that to my collection but alas there is only so much space left around her for teddy bears :) I like those bird silhouettes and have seen them advertised on Instagram. ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: I smiled to see that giant bear - but there would be no room for him here either. The daffodils and jonquils in the vase were ones I picked after wind had snapped their stalks. I was blown away by the variety. Yes, I know that I planted them, but seeing the variety somehow still surprised me.

kylie: I really liked the tribute to our essential workers, and thoroughly enjoyed the scarecrows. There are several 'close' approximations of the magpie sculpture. I may have to knock on the owner's door and ask where they got them. And yes, they are in danger of disappearing in the jungle here. I lust after them just the same.

DeleteYour spring garden flowers are lovely colours, the pinks and yellows and blues, so soft and gentle contrasting with the bold reds and golds and purples that we have here in autumn. The scarecrows are delightful. My dad always put up a scarecrow in his veg garden but I don't think it scared anyone, least of all any crows.

The teddy bear is great, reminds me of my dogs. They always sneak into the front seat if I bring them out with me and fight over who gets to sit in the driver's seat while I'm in the store lol!
