Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.
Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post
some
photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me.
Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. We had not only a 'super moon' but a lunar eclipse this week. For a change it wasn't cloudy on the night. So naturally I was out there with my camera. I struggle taking photographs of the moon and most of my shots were abject failures. I don't know whether light pollution or a screw loose in the operator was at fault (I am leaning towards the latter reason). So I came inside again. Some of the 'better failure' photographs follow.
My father told me that I was more stubborn than stains. He may have been right. The next morning (eclipse over) I headed out again a little before and a little after dawn. And was much happier with the shots I took.
It was cool outside. We definitely had a frost.

These were beautiful photos honey. It takes very expensive and complicated equipment to take good astronomical photos and these are very nice. Especially that lucky shot! Wishing you all the best as usual dear 💗

We had a threat of frost this week but luckily, we didn't had frost but it was cold. Beauty is everywhere now as the trees and grass are green and flowers are blooming and the birds are happily singing.
I hope that your week is also filled with beauty and success.

We tried to take photos of the blood moon but dint' have a lot of luck - definitely my failure there, I've gotten some good shots with the camera before! I loved watching the moon but the kids weren't too impressed - apparently they expected it to be more red, haha!

Mica: The last lunar eclipse I tried to photograph was much redder than this one. I had to get up at about 3am for that one. This one was much more time friendly. It is hard to get good photographs of the moon isn't it? My weekend has been good and I hope yours is too.

DeleteThe moon shots are great. I did take some about 9.00 pm, but wasn't willing to stay up until the eclipse time - about 11.30 here, too late for this early riser. The ones you took in the morning must have made you do happy dances - they are very good indeed. That one with the bird is outstanding!

DeleteMy daughter went out to photograph the eclipse and all she saw was clouds. I saw the orangey pink moon on the news the next night. I love your moon/bird photo and that one where the moon is fronted completely by branches.

DeleteGorgeous moon shots! I sent the alarm so I'd be up in the early morning hours to see it. No decent camera and hubby didn't want to get up and set up the telescope, so I had to rely on the binoculars. It was still pretty darn spectacular!

musicalsciencedoggies: It was good wasn't it? My camera is of the point and shoot variety but I was/am pleased with the shots I took just before and just after dawn. My partner flatly refuses to get up at those hours too (except when I really nag when balloons are in the offing).

DeleteI think it's hard to take photos of the moon. Do you use a tripod? I think it helps to keep the camera steady.

DeleteCiao , ho fatto anch'io spesso, tantissime foto alla luna , è difficile che riescano bene ,soprattutto quando è proprio buio ed il cielo è limpido , senza nuvole che offuschino leggermente la luna... riescono molto bene invece prima dell'imbrunire o al mattino presto come è successo a te , o se si ha la fortuna che davanti alla luna passi qualche nuvoletta , allora come per magia le foto vengono una meraviglia :) A proposito, complimenti per aver ritentato al mattino seguente , sono una favola :)

On other full moons we have had total cloud cover and couldn't see (much less photograph) the moon. It was wonderful to see the moon clearly - but I did wish for just a few clouds.

DeleteI think you captured the super moon and lunar eclipse very well. Better than me cos when I try to shoot the moon, I get this itsy blob, tiny like a lollipop. I especially like the one with the twigs and leaves shadows on the moon. That awesome shot with the bird flying pass the moon was not lucky, it was patience and perseverance. 💪💪👍👍

And it was a lucky shot - I had only a very brief period (less than a second I think) and managed to hit the relevant button in time. It was an amazing sight and I am so glad I captured it.

DeleteAmazing moon shots, especially the "after". Frost? Oh my gosh, here it is 90+ degrees every day, humid, rainy, thunderstormy, and hurricane season. I cannot imagine frost. But I know its in my future.
