Sunday Selections #535

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. We had not only a 'super moon' but a lunar eclipse this week.  For a change it wasn't cloudy on the night.  So naturally I was out there with my camera.  I struggle taking photographs of the moon and most of my shots were abject failures.  I don't know whether light pollution or a screw loose in the operator was at fault (I am leaning towards the latter reason).  So I came inside again.  Some of the 'better failure' photographs follow.

My father told me that I was more stubborn than stains.  He may have been right.  The next morning (eclipse over) I headed out again a little before and a little after dawn.  And was much happier with the shots I took.

Wasn't that a lucky shot?

It was cool outside.  We definitely had a frost.

It isn't cold enough to freeze bubbles though.  Yet.

I hope your week is filled with beauty and success.

  1. These were beautiful photos honey. It takes very expensive and complicated equipment to take good astronomical photos and these are very nice. Especially that lucky shot! Wishing you all the best as usual dear 💗

  2. Beauty and success? I'll settle for a nap or five, and I love your lucky shot though they were all fun to see. I hope you are feeling better.

  3. Your moon shots are all superb, especially the one with the bird, is award worthy. Beautiful photography.
I have never been successful at capturing a good moon shot.

We had a threat of frost this week but luckily, we didn't had frost but it was cold. Beauty is everywhere now as the trees and grass are green and flowers are blooming and the birds are happily singing.
I hope that your week is also filled with beauty and success.

  10. I love the dawn photos you got of the moon! We tried to take photos of the blood moon but dint' have a lot of luck - definitely my failure there, I've gotten some good shots with the camera before! I loved watching the moon but the kids weren't too impressed - apparently they expected it to be more red, haha!

  70. "... more stubborn than stains" - that made me laugh! What a great saying.

I think your photos are wonderful. I've never successfully photographed the moon at night. And wow, that shot with the bird silhouetted in flight... amazing!

    1. Diane Henders: It is a wonderful saying isn't it? Short and to the point.
Moon photographs are something I find difficult and I was thrilled that I managed to capture that bird in flight.

  71. Lovely moon.
You really have cold time there. We have now very very hot weather. It's not so nice if in shadow it's +25 C.
