Sunday Selections #539

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. There was another super moon on Friday (the last for this year).  It was raining here (yay) so I couldn't even see the moon much less photograph it.  However, in my usual fashion I went out at first light on Saturday.  And delighted in a cloudy dawn.

It was a muted and moody dawn but I thought it was magnificent.

We are in winter now.  A fairly wimpy (and blessedly damp)  winter.  I know that many of you in the Northern Hemisphere are experiencing unheard of and unprecedented heat.  Shudder.

The next few photos from my trip to Antarctica are designed to hopefully make you feel cooler.

Stay cool (or warm) and enjoy the week ahead.

    1. eli mendez: Thank you. Our winter has been much milder this year. The forecast for the next week or so suggests that the mildness will continue. Sigh. I have been to Antartica, and LOVED it. It was the trip of a lifetime and lived up to my dreams. You too, stay well, happy and healthy.

  3. Thank you for these! I love everything about your first shots - the clouds, the silhouettes, the fabulous moon - all of it.
The second group is exquisite! I would love to go to Antarctica but will probably have to rely on your photos instead. The penguins are beautiful and the ice shelves breathtaking. I hope we can quickly save both polar caps, for the sake of the earth.
Hugs to you and scritches to the fur beastie.

Thank you for the hugs which are reciprocated. Jazz is not in the mood for scritches this morning. I will approach him again a little later.

  8. G'day, EC...the only reason I get up at dawn is to do a quick trip to the bathroom and then promptly back to bed again, with my two furry mates nagging at me until I do so! :)

I love the cooler weather, and am not in a hurry for summer to arrive. It will get here more than fast enough without any urging from me.

  9. I love your dawn photos, especially that crooked tree in picture #4. Your Antarctica pictures are really cool, and the casually flowing by icebergs remind me of our trip to Alaska in 2005. - We had a very hot weekend, but this weekend it seems the heat is staying further north with incredibly high temperatures in areas that usually don't get that hot.

    1. Carola Bartz: I love that tree and look for it at night as well as in the morning. It often has roosting cockatoos in it. I have heard that some areas are experiencing unprecedented heat - and my heart goes out to them.

I'm in awe that you have been to Antarctica, but I guess it's a bit closer for you than it would be for me. I still want to go someday, though. Your photos make my desire even more so. Those are delightful, as are the incredibly cute chinstrap(?) penguins. It is 93 degrees F. today here in northern Virginia (58-59 C. according to the conversion chart I just read.) I don’t do well in heat - I am a cold weather person also. And yet there are people further west who have it more horrendous, so I am not moaning by any means, and hoping that they can stay cool.

    1. Magic Love Crow: I will always try and take photos of a full moon. And often fail, but keep trying. Antarctica was heaven on a stick. Huge hugs to you.
