Sunday Selections #552

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. We are still in lockdown and for at least another three weeks.  Consequently my images are a bit same old/same old.  I do hope you can enjoy them despite their predictability.

Early one morning last week (around 7am) I headed into town to do a shift at Lifeline.  Starting (of course) at home.

My trip takes me to a city centre where I change buses.  I do like seeing the murals which now cover boarded up offices and businesses.

I am always amused by the slippers on the mural above.

While Floriade has been cancelled, there are floral displays in the city centres and the suburbs.  Sadly I won't see most of them this year.
The largely empty bus interchange on a grey morning.

My city has been described as 'a good sheep paddock spoiled.  It is entirely appropriate that Ainslie's sheep by Les Kossatz has a home in the main city centre.

Another boarded up business.

And more floral displays in the city centre.

Back to my garden again.

By afternoon the grey day had disappeared.

Then to the usual garden shots -and the usual plethora of photos too.

There are more orchids coming out every day.

The red tulips are being joined by white, pink, purple and yellow ones.

I cannot at the moment remember what this beauty is - which is irritating me.  My find the plant app is failing too.

Most of the daffodils/jonquils are past their best, but some are still just coming into bloom.

River's clivia are in full bloom.  Ours have a way to go yet.

Next week (weather and energy permitting) I hope to take you on a small walk in my neighbourhood.  Spring is such a vibrant and delightful time of the year.

Where ever you are, and whatever you are doing I hope the week to come is packed with health and happiness.

  1. EC, it must be a wonderful relief to get out and about. The lockdown is lengthy for sure but your garden colour is gorgeous as usual.

So many businesses have disappeared here. It is sad…

    1. Marie Smith: I hope our lengthy lockdown succeeds. The boarded up buildings in the first city centre have been there since before the pandemic. Sadly other business have joined them. And yes, the garden is a comfort.

You are right, the slippers on the mural are a hoot and I love that first ram.
You take special care. Hope your weekend is filled with just the right amount of sunshine. I know it will be filled with beautiful flowers and flying wonders.

He thought otherwise. Shortly after dawn he went outside (briefly) came in, enjoyed a big breakfast) and went back to bed. So did I - and that time he let me sleep.

  7. Dear EC
Thank you for that burst of lovely colours and cheerfulness. Is the mystery plant a kind of epimedium? The flowers look a bit like it, but not the leaves so much. The bunny slippers made me smile too. I do like all the sculptures you have there too.
Have a good week too and keep as safe as you can.
    Best wishes

  8. The murals and planters of flowers are bright and cheerful. Whimsical sheep! Is that first fellow getting dressed? Your gardens are lovely, EC. Spring is really taking off there. Fall seems to be winding down slowly here. I don't mind if it lasts awhile.

  9. The lockdown never worked here in the states. I know it is sad and unpleasant, but it is sure better than the rampant spread of the Delta virus and mounting death toll we face daily.

I can't believe you grow orchids in your garden. That is incredible, since I read orchids needed lots of heat to survive. Your plants in your own yard are wonderful. Too bad much of the rest of the world can't see how beautiful it is there.

Again, seeing the empty city is amazing. It's too bad many of those murals will be destroyed once the businesses are allowed to reopen. I SO LOVE those bunny shoes. So cute and cleverly created.

Have a safe and creative week, dear EC.

I hope your week is great. I know it will be creative.

  23. Thanks for sharing your day with us, Sue. It is quite sad to contemplate all those businesses that have closed, dreams dashed, livelihoods lost. I am assuming that COVID is the reason. Its impact just keeps on affecting our lives. In Canada. in the Province of Alberta, where a right wing government with no more brains than a turnip opened up the entire province and removed all restrictions, the situation is dire and seemingly out of control. The army is being despatched to help.

    1. Carola Bartz: They are cautiously saying that we 'might' open up again (partially) in the middle of the month. Restrictions will still apply. Masks will still be worn and numbers limited. It is sometimes inconvenient but I am grateful.
Floriade has been reimagined and will pop up in on a smaller scale in the suburbs. Because the beds were planted before the lockdown IF we can get to the main venue I will try and take photos.

  67. Your garden, your flowers, are simply lovely and make me happy to see them. But the city, all boarded up, brings such a sad and even lonely feeling. Surely this will pass.

    1. J C: I am sure that the city is lonely. I like the colour on the boarded up buildings, but the multitudes of shops and offices with their lights out definitely look sad. With luck, we will largely reopen towards the end of the month.

    1. Magic Love Crow: Many thanks. Many of those businesses have been closed for a long time. Hopefully as we emerge from Covid they will be rebuilt.
