Sunday Selections #603

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week I am introducing the newest members of our family.

Batty and Odie are rescue cats.  And brothers.  They look very different and have different characters too.  Batty is the black one and Odie the tabby.  They are just over nine months old and government regulations in my city mean that they are indoor cats (unless and until we build a secure enclosure for them outside).  They don't seem to mind.  They play together, they sleep together, they fight together.

We didn't name them, but these are the names they know and for the moment at least they are keeping them.  Perhaps Batty was named because of the size of his ears...

Less talk, more photos.

And in other news.  The drift of bluebells we planted over Jazz has emerged and some of them are in bud.  In years to come I hope they look like these ones elsewhere in our garden.  Jazz used to roll in them (and looked really good doing so).

I hope you find joy in your weeks too.

PS:  Our good friend Andrew lost his blog and twenty years worth of photographs and date this week.  He has bravely started again and you will find his new blog here

PPS:  And a worrying update.  After I prepared this post yesterday it became obvious that Odie was unwell, and Batty off his food.  So we had an emergency trip to the vet.  Odie is on medication, and Batty is on 'watch and wait'.  Keep your fingers crossed for us all please.

  1. You have made my morning wonderful because you actually used the word joy my dear. Pixie came with her name too. And it seemed cruel to change it as she was used to it. This post has really touched my heart. Giving me joy. And hope. I feel much a love for you. I think I was touch most by the Blue bells. Fond Aloha dear!

    1. Cloudia: Thank you. Jazz loved bluebells and planting a drift of them over him seemed entirely appropriate. And we think of him each time we see them.

Batty and Odie are both adorable and I'm anxious to hear what the vet has to say. Hopefully they'll bounce back soon.

  8. Dear EC - oh dear I do hope Batty and Odie are improving ... and will be with you for many a year. Jazz's bluebells are just lovely to see and yes Batty does suit his ears ... while Odie as you say is beautifully coloured. Take care and enjoy the littlies - cheers and sent with thoughts - Hilary

  10. Poor kittens! Hope they are doing better. Maybe they got into something? And regulations keep them inside? Is that an Australian thing? Never heard of it. Although most cats should be indoor only as they can get run over.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Alex J. Cavanaugh: The vet suspects a virus (from their previous home). More and more councils are regulating that cats be kept inside which protects both the cats and the wildlife.

  14. Batty and Odie have the most beautiful eyes, and very pretty coats. Great photos, a lovely series as are your bluebells. So sorry to read at the end that they are feeling poorly, and I hope it won't be long before they are back to good health.

  15. They're adorable, and I love Batty's ears! But how awful that they're having problems already - so soon after all of Jazz's difficulties, you must be stressed to the max. A BIG 'fingers-crossed' that they'll both be better soon, and a heartfelt wish that this will be the last of their health problems for a very long time.

    1. Diane Henders: Stressed to the max covers it. Back to the vet tomorrow - and thank you.

  17. I am so happy to welcome Batty and Odie, I think Jazz and Jewel would approve too, they know you are a good mum for cats. Sorry to read your final paragraph though, is it possible they are just adjusting to different food? I hope they both get well very soon. The bluebells are lovely, mine hardly bloomed at all and all the leaves are flattened to the ground. I will pull them all up after the summer and put them in a pot instead.

    1. River: The vet thinks it is a virus. Odie has a respiratory infection. Sadly they have been with us too short a time for them to trust us to pill them. Back to the vet in the morning. Jazz would not approve of the newbies, but they are here.
