Sunday Selections #607

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. A little while ago I described the ambience of our home as cluttered on Andrew's blog.  The same is true of our walls and ceilings.  There are things I have made, things other people have made, photographs and souvenirs from trips away and things people have given us.

We have had the two oil paintings above for decades.  The artist was an Austrian man on a working holiday in Australia.  I love the way he captured quintessentially Australia countryside scenes and light.

I made the needlework above for himself's mama.  After her death it came back to us.

I bought the water colour above when I was away on a work trip to Tasmania.  I was cold and went into an art gallery to get warm.  I fell in love with this painting and my only regret has been that I couldn't afford another by the same artist.

In other news, the kittens continue to give cause for concern.  Odie in particular is still snuffling.  Both of their digestive systems are not happy.  The vet tells us that it could take weeks for them to recover.  Fingers crossed.  Tightly.

I wouldn't be me if I didn't include a couple of photos from the garden.

And some skyscapes, finishing with a pretty and hopeful dawn (well that was the plan until Blogger decided to reverse the order of my photos).

I hope your week to come is cluttered with joy.

  1. You have a beautiful chosen collection of things that resonate with me. Such a pleasure to see the cat faces and to hear that they are on the mend. And your garden is always a healer. Thank you so much! You are very appreciated. By so many of us

    1. Cloudia: Thank you. Both cats have decided that food is poison this morning. And both continue to snuffle. I really hope that we get into the forward healing process. Soon.

  2. I'm glad the kittens are still enjoying your caring company and that they are on the mend. I wonder how their personalities will be once they are all better. It's always a pleasure seeing your beautiful photos of flowers and skies and the things that makes our home a special place.

I hope your blogger comment issues are getting fixed.
    Take care,

    1. Diane Henders: I love JohnJohn's paintings and hope that he continues to paint - where ever he is. We took himself's parents to see him working. They fell in love with one of his works but told him that it needed more sheep. Which embarrassed us. He added more sheep - and made another sale.

    2. Ha! I can just imagine it: "Needs more sheep." I'm impressed that he actually did it! :-)

I've many paintings (ones I've done) and prints of other artworks on my walls, plus a few other oddments. :)

  6. It lingers but sounds like Odie and Batty aren't getting worse, so that's a positive. Who knew that cats could end up with long-term covid symptoms?

I adore your collection of artwork! So many decorate without a sense of memories attached to the pieces. You are surrounded by memories come to life. That should be the way of it. I especially like the black cats sitting on pedestals and the Tasmanian artwork.

Thank you for being you and including your obsessions. I always enjoy what's going on in the garden and the skies.

May the week ahead bring joy and serenity... or at least not a ton of bullshit. ;) Hugs to you and yours.

You are right, almost all of the work on our walls is weighted with memories. Which isn't a bad thing. A week without bullshit? Dream the impossible dream...

  9. The Austrian man captured our landscape quite well. Objective eyes perhaps. The Dali inspired clock is cool. The painting bought in Tasmania is very nice, and soothing. I expect many minutes could be spent examining what is hung on your walls.

    1. Andrew: Many, many minutes I suspect. Himself's sister stayed with us after one of his surgeries. She said that after a month in the house she was STILL finding new things to look at. The clock is wonderful isn't it?

  10. It is wonderful to see some of the art on your walls - I especially like the first two, the beautiful oils of Australian trees - and the ships, and the watercolour from Tasmania...
I am a huge fan of Dali, and in the course of several trips to Spain I have been to quite a few Dali museums, and to the house he built near Cadaques. I wish I was back there now...

Poor kittens; they are lucky to have you taking such good care of them. I hope they, and you, have a good week.

    1. Kim: I hope so. I really, really hope so. They are worrying again this morning. Food is poison - though they insist they are hungry (a good sign) and then reject the cooked chicken the vet tells me they should be limited to.

    2. You've probably tried this, but just in case you haven't I'll tell you what worked for our cat who had pancreatitis for years. He would refuse food too and the only way we could eventually get him to take some was by warming it in the microwave which gave it an appetising smell. Apologies if you're over hearing repeated suggestions. and even more apologies if you try it and it doesn't work...

    3. Kim: Thank you. I have tried it, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Jazz had pancreatitis too, and warmed food often tempted him.

  15. Is that a flying frog I see? I love it! I also love the Australian landscapes, but I hate the clock. I have no paintings on my walls, I have a couple of large framed jigsaws and many family photos, also ten small photos of Angel, but not a single one of Lola.
I'm so sorry to hear Odie and Batty are still suffering, can you ask the vet what else he might recommend as they dislike the chicken so much? the snuffling could indicate an allergy, is it possible they have hayfever?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. River: It is a flying frog and we like it too. You hate my clock? Just as well you don't have to find house room for it.
The sniffles still relate to the coronavirus. I hope they don't have allergies as well. While they still have diarrhea the vet recommended that they stay on very bland food - and she suggested that cooked chicken was our/their best option. When their poor tummies settle we can expand their diet again.

  17. I love your eclectic home. It is beautiful and so warm. Although I have never been there, I love the two paintings of Australia. They remind me of how Australia more than likely looks. I also LOVE your Dali clock. I am a huge Dali fan from the first time I saw his "The Persistence of Memory," which I called "Dripping Clocks" until I learned the actual name.

I am hopeful the vet is correct that it will take time for Batty and Odie awhile to get over the effects of Covid, but they eventually will. I know the love you have for them already and how incredibly stressful this is for you.

When Squiggles was quite ill and wouldn't eat (he would eat me out of house and home if I let him), I bought some high end wet cat food and "watered it down" with chicken broth. I fed him just at little bit at a time. Might not be what your vet would suggest, I realize.

Lovely flowers in your garden, too, dear. Please take care and give those two babies an extra hug from me.

BTW, I HOPE this publishes the first time.

    1. Bleubeard and Elizabeth: I hope your comment DID publish first time - and thank you for persevering if it didn't. At the moment the cats are not eating any wet food - it is apparently too hard on their digestion. I will remember the watering it down trick when they graduate back to normal cat food though. Cooked chicken is what the vet recommends. And they are sick of it. Sigh.

Over the past 10 days I have been sorting out my Brother's and SIL's home and throwing out stuff, giving to charity, sorting stuff for the auction, giving stuff FREE to anyone who will take it away. My SIL kept EVERYTHING, I mean EVERYTHING and she was 93 when she died. I do not intend leaving this burden to my children so am doing a lot of it now.
