Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week for a change I/we had a couple of small outings. I am still adapting to my new normal and both of us have acquired 'summer colds'. I was feeling ground down and demanded a roo fix. And fix me it did.
Himself has a birthday coming up and I went on a shopping expedition. Cutting down an alley way between some shops I was delighted with this mural of stylised emus. Emus are often called meyous in this household after hearing a work colleague's young daughter call them that.
I am finishing up this week's selections with a delightful sunset.

Julia: Thank you. Our summer has been weird. We lurch from hot (sometimes very hot) to record lows very quickly. I hope your deary overcast day is replaced by sunshine - no matter how chilly.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos of the roos - they look so calm and relaxed that they immediately make me feel the same way. We have had an extremely busy time over Christmas and New Year, and a roo fix (a real one) would be wonderful.
Your sunset pics are lovely, and the meyous made me smile (- a neighbour calls them murials.)

Alexia: As I have often said/thought roos relax better than anything - except perhaps cat. Battie is limping on one or both of his hind legs. Hopefully when the vet opens tomorrow they will have an answer and a fix. I hope your busy Christmas/New Year was lovely and you can relax a little now.

ReplyDeleteThe emus are wonderful. What a great find. Australians are working hard on getting a willing YouTubing citizen of the US to get his pronunciation of Australian names etc correct. The emphasis on emu is on the first syllable, not the second. Ditto for our capital city, that he thought was Sydney. I am not sure anyone has challenged him on Melbourne yet, more Melburn than Melborn.
Andrew: It was bright, sunny and definitely cool. Which has been quite common this summer. The roos looked to have found a spot that suited them though. Weren't those emus great? I grinned when I saw them and again when I processed the photos. Our pronunciation is often challenging - and a dead give away about non locals isn't it?

DeleteThose emus are awesome! Funny that I never thought that roo's would need a population control, but there you have it. Our cat is from Puerto Rico. Given that the island has been devastated by hurricanes for the last 3 years or so, it's no surprise that they have tons of feral cats. As they catch them and spay them they clip their ear so they know they've been done. Between the birth defect in her eye and her clipped ear she looks like she's been in quite a scuffle. No wonder she takes on our 80 pound dog without warning. :)
ReplyDeleteJuli: The roos thrive in my city and have no natural predators here - other than cars. I MUCH prefer that we go down the contraceptive route than the culls that local government too often insists are needed. I like the idea of your cat the battler - and thank you for taking her in.
