Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. I mentioned last week that autumn is officially here. And she is confused the city over not just in our garden. Some trees are blazing with autumnal colour, some are yet to change and there are still flowers in bloom.
Come walk with me, first in the city, and then in my street.
I do appreciate the relatively recent tendency to hide renovation work behind murals rather than simply boarding the building up.
Now to our street.
I hope you find colour and beauty in your week.
And in other news, Batty goes back to the vet tomorrow. We have every hope and expectation that he will be passed as clear to rejoin the rest of the household. I wonder how Odie will cope? While he has been missing Batty he has also enjoyed having the house and our attention to himself.
Enjoy the warm colours of autumn and the mild temperatures.
ReplyDeleteCaterina: I am. My city does autumn well. We usually have bright sunny days and pleasant temperatures.
DeleteYour city always looks so clean, vibrant and beautiful. I hope all is well with Batty and that he and Odie have a sweet reunion.
ReplyDeletee: Most of my city is clean, and I think a lot of it is beautiful. Like you, I hope the brothers have a wonderful reunion. How are you and Lukas?
DeleteThe fall colors are great!
ReplyDeleteMike: I think so too. We are considering a boat trip to see them reflected on our lake.
DeleteA lovely array of photos, EC...nature again at its best, and your camera abilities, too! :)
ReplyDeleteLet's hope all is good news for Batty tomorrow. He and Odie will have lots to talk about.
I hope all is well with you, too, and that the week ahead has only kindness and happiness in store. Take good care. :)
Oops! Sorry...the above comment by "Anonymous" is me, Lee...who is not anonymous...what a melee!! :)
DeleteLee: How I wish that blogger didn't make people anonymous. It is yet another irritation. We hope it is good news for Batty too, and that he and Odie can be reunited instead of just sniffing though closed doors.
DeleteThe various sorts of blossoms are just so spring. Love the colours and flowers.
ReplyDeleteroentare: While I have noticed yet more spring bulbs coming up in the garden it is still autumn here. And I love it.
DeleteAs I already knew, your city does autumn so well. The boat trip you mention sounds brilliant. Good luck with reuniting the pair. I'm sure it will be fine.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Canberra does do autumn well. We hope to go on our ferry cruise soon, while the colours are still at their peak. Hopefully this week or early next. Fingers crossed that the brothers unite smoothly. I expect they will.
DeleteI love the lovely uplifting mural. Such powerful message. I agree, is a pleasant way to hide renovation instead of boarding the building up.
ReplyDeleteYour autumn colors are beautiful. The lawn are starting to green up here and we and I'm glad to report that the flood water is receding and both lane to the main highway are dry. What a relief.
I hope Batty is still improving.
Hugs,
Julia
Julia: That mural was a lovely splash of colour wasn't it? I can't even remember what is behind it. I do love autumn, but spring has charm too. I am glad that your flood waters are receding. Batty is doing pretty well we think. We will be surprised and disappointed if the vet disagrees.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - You have such a beautiful city and scenery beyond! It’s truly delightful to see your photos each week.
ReplyDeleteCrossing my fingers for Batty and I’m guessing Odie will be very happy to see him.
Hugs to you and I hope you have a restful week ahead.
River Fairchild: Thank you. We expect that the boys will be happy to be reunited - and it will make our life easier too. A busy week this week (for a change). I hope you are settling after your move. And able to relax.
DeleteHooray for Batty! It's great to hear that he is doing well, and I bet Odie will be happy to have him back home permanently. b Your trees are lovely - it's great to have so much beautiful colour in your garden. I have to admit that my favourite is the last tree - the light green one - it's stunning.
ReplyDeleteI really like the mural too - full of life and great colours. I hope you are feeling well, EC - I look forward to the boat trip on the lake!
Alexia: Much of the colour in this post comes from other people's gardens. The last tree, an elm, is in ours though. We love it.
DeleteDefinitely hooray for Batty. I am doing better too.
The trip up (or down) your street is lovely, as was the trip through the city. So much color!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to your description of the cats' meeting. I predict it will be hesitant at first, then joyous.
Joanne Noragon: I love that my city embraces colour - and our street is looking good too. I think you are right about the cats. They know they other cat is in the house but we have (on vet's advice) kept them apart. Our hands get a good sniffing when we have been talking to the other cat though.
DeleteThere are so many pretty colors to autumn. Thank you for taking us on a lovely walk.
ReplyDeleteThe cats will adjust, it may take a day or two, but they will adjust.
My selections will be over here.
messymimi: Thank you. I expect that the cats will delight in having each other to play with again - we are not nearly as much fun. As always I look forward to seeing your selections.
DeleteThank you and most importantly I want to have some warmer weather and no more snow. Your autumn photos are amazing and each vibrant color imaginable, while our world is pretty grey everywhere. Okay no negativity especially after seeing your beautiful world. And on the positive side as well my Peacock is still with us and doing well. He's in his mating stage, not that he'll call a female ever around here but he does look beautiful with his full feathers! Take good care.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: I do hope your grey surrounds lift and soon. I am glad that the peacock is still around and displaying. Have you thought about getting him a mate?
DeleteHope you are feeling better too, EC. You autumn colours are glorious! Thank you for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Thank you. I am feeling better and even did a bit in the garden earlier. Not before time.
DeleteHoping the animals reunite well, I'm sure they will.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your cruise when you go.
The colours of autumn are very lovely and so nice to see what you see. Thank you.
Like the mural.
Margaret D: The kittens were talking to each other through the closed door to our ensuite today. I am sure they are ready to be together again. Autumn is lovely, and Canberra does it well.
DeleteYour world is ablaze with color, both autumn and summer. What a beautiful city you live in, dear. So clean and pristine. And you live in a delightful area, too. My favorite was the bottle brush bush, something I have only seen in California.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping all goes well with Batty and you get good news. I also hope you get to take that ferry trip you talked about with others above. Let's hope for good news all around, dear friend.
Why do I always seem to get "failed to publish" when I visit you?
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: I am very, very fond of colour and chase it. The bottle brush is a beauty isn't it? The rest of that yard (the house was sold not long ago) looks a bit sad, but the bottlebrush makes up for it.
DeleteFingers crossed for the kittens. We will take the ferry trip - but possibly not next week - our days are full.
I am so sorry you have trouble commenting here.
Your autumn colour is more brilliant than ours, we dont get cold enough I think. I love the red coleus. I'll keep my fingers crossed for Batty and hope Odie welcomes him back too. My elderly neighbour lost another of her cats a week ago, relatively young, but sickly for a while with kidney failure.
ReplyDeleteRiver: Our cooler weather does make for good autumn colour - and for a change we had enough rain this year. We still have our fingers crossed for the kittens but are hopeful. No coleus here (which photo did you mean). I feel for your neighbour. It is never easy to lose a companion.
DeleteWhat a treat your photos are.
ReplyDeleteKalpana: What a lovely thing to say Thank you.
DeleteSpectacular autumn colour. Spring is just hesitantly showing her hand here.
ReplyDeleteJohn "By Stargoose And Hanglands": Spring is showing her hand here too - there are quite a number of spring bulbs emerging. Way too early.
DeleteThat's the way it always is here--- A little bit of everything in both Spring and Fall.
ReplyDeleteBill: Spring and Autumn are both fickle months aren't they?
DeleteHi EC - I do hope all goes well for Batty and you tomorrow - looking forward to that update when you can. All the pictures show gorgeous early Autumn foliage with clear blue skies - lucky you ... however also I hope things are easing for you ... take care and with thoughts - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I will try and let you know how we get on tomorrow - probably some time in the afternoon. Fingers crossed all will be well.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful colours - both in nature and in that mural. I do enjoy autumn colours in the UK too, (and the cooler temperatures, especially if we have summers like last year's!) I hope your health is improving too, along with Batty.
Have a good week and take special care of yourself.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Our summer was damper and not as hot as usual, but I am still enjoying the cooler weather, and definitely the colours in the foliage. Thank you - I am feeling quite a lot better now. Take care of yourself too.
DeleteGood news on the feline front, Sue. Hooray! Canberra is indeed a beautiful city. There is much that cities around the world could learn from it. I am happy to read above that you are feeling much better. Double hooray for that.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: Canberra is often reviled here as dull. I am happy to quietly disagree. And thank you for your felicitations on the health front in this household.
DeleteYour walk was very colorful. I'm glad to hear Batty is doing well.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: This is a colourful time of year here - though I also will appreciate it in the coming weeks when the leaves are down and bare branches are filigreed against the sky.
Manuel.
Manuel: Thank you. I always enjoy walking with you too - have a great new week.
DeleteSuch gorgeous flowers and abundance. I enjoyed every single picture and will go back to see them again. And glad to hear the kitties will be reunited.
ReplyDeleteDJan: We are both in beautiful times of year aren't we? I have been loving your photos of the tulip festival.
DeletePretty trees and flowers I love when Summer and Autumn meet in this way and the days are still hot. Beauty and warmth, that's my poison.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): Our days are warm rather than hot but there is beauty in abundance. Which I relish.
DeleteThat will be great for Batty and you if he is cleared for takeoff. Hopefully Odie will be thrilled. Anyhow, your fall colors are gorgeous and I wonder if soon, all the trees will break out in autumn colors. We finally got a rain free day yesterday although its back to rain today but, we are supposed to have four glorious days of sun next week, starting Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: It will be most excellent if Batty is cleared. He and Odie were talking to each other through a closed door yesterday - I think it will be good for both of them to be united again. I hope you do get some sunshine - I know you have been missing it. I would like some rain (to soften the ground for an orgy of weeding).
DeleteWhat beautiful fall colours; and I love the mural! It's so cool that even a transient structure like plywood hoarding is considered worthy of art. (Although I'm sad that the art will be destroyed when the hoarding is removed.)
ReplyDeleteHooray for Batty's recovery! I hope his reintegration to the household goes well. :-)
Diane Henders: You have me wondering now. Perhaps the mural will be removed and moved to the next renovation site. I hope so, but have never seen a repeat.
DeleteGreat news on dear Batty. Thoroughly enjoyed the look around your neighborhood and all those other sights you shared today. These murals definitely brighten things up, though I haven't seen anything this beautiful when refurbishing places out of sight, not yet anyway. Thank you for sharing them and I wish you a happy week.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: The murals on renovation sites are a relatively new phenomenon here and I love them. I do hope they continue. And thank you for your good wishes for Batty and me.
DeleteYou will always have my good wishes my friend :)
DeleteBeautiful autumn trees, with a mural of the flowers.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: It is a beautiful time of year here - and I hope you are enjoying your spring.
DeleteHope all goes well and Batty comes back. I love that name and oh my gosh, I love all the autumn trees. Such a great time of year.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: Batty is home. Odie is not at all sure. They will work it out - and yes, it is a beautiful time of year.
DeleteMany thanks for taking and sharing these lovely photographs, the colours are amazing.
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well for Batty and Odie's reunion.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: I am a huge fan of Autumnal colour. Batty is home again and finally has free run of the house. Odie is not sure that is a good thing.
DeleteAnd here all the fruit trees are in blossom, and the swallows are back under our roofs.
ReplyDeleteSean Jeating: We are both experiencing wonderful times of the year.
DeleteFingers crossed for Batty.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: Thank you. You can uncross those fingers, he now has free run of the house.
DeleteBatty is home again after his vet visit, and can free range the house again. He is (mostly) pleased. Odie is not so convinced. There is much sniffing and some hissing and spitting. They will work it out.
ReplyDeleteheartfelt best wishes for your pet dear EC
ReplyDeleteyes i found your fall colours captivating !
loved looking at fiery autumn hews :)
each shot very well captured !
your city and street both are awesome and neat indeed .
baili: Thank you very much for your kind words. I think that both my street and city have a lot to recommend it - and autumn shows it off at its best.
DeleteAutumn is always beautiful. I love the blazing colors.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: We do too - and our city is cool enough to do them well.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. Autumn was always my favorite season in the Midwest. Trees are so lovely then.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: You will be totally unsurprised to learn that autumn is one of my favourite seasons too.
DeleteFall is my favorite time of year, both because of the colors and because of the cool, but not cold temperatures. Your pictures are awesome and it makes me want to wish my summer away so I can have those brilliant colors in my neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteSo I renewed my Passport today ... it will probably take a few months to get the new one back, but our plans are to head for Australia in January sometime ... fingers crossed. Once again it depends on my son and his wife's work ... they both work in construction and weather can be a problem . Last year it was a strike that stopped the flow of materials to their jobs so they were laid off for 5 weeks. Fingers crossed, we will make it this year. We will be coming to Melbourne assuming that your government opens up it's travel gates. Let me know if you hear anything about it.
I hope to be able to meet with you and spend at least a day seeing what you would want me to see in your neck of the woods. Also, I am open to suggestion for places to stay that are nice but not ridiculously expensive ... like a Bed & Breakfast or a condo. Anyway ... it is awhile away so I just wanted to give you a heads up :) Australia has been on my Bucket List for years ... I can't believe that it might actually be happening. Also, please don't feel obligated to entertain me ... I just want some time to say Hello and give you a Hug which I have wanted to do for a long time. Anything more will be up to you and your ability to spend time with me. Be well, Sue ...
Andrea @ From the Sol
Andrea @ From The Sol: How exciting. As far as I am aware our borders are now pretty much fully open. Melbourne is quite a distance from me, but I do hope we CAN meet up. Let me know (please) when you have some further details and we will see what we can arrange. Be warned, January is one of our hottest months. I am currently revelling in the sunny days and cool nights of Autumn and I am not looking forward to the return of summer.
DeleteWhat a beautiful autumn! Florida doesn't get pretty fall colors.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie Junebug: I suspect that it is our cool autumns that give us the beautiful colour.
DeleteWelcome back to the wee tiger!
ReplyDeleteThe autumn colour is beautiful
kylie: Welcome back indeed - though he has just got me up because he insists on lying on my face purring and kneading.
DeleteYour fall colours are so beautiful. Good photography with great subjects. Hope your critters are back together soon
ReplyDeleteThe Blog Fodder: The colours are lovely aren't they? Arboreal fireworks. The cats are starting to settle together again - which is lovely.
DeleteThe fall is so magnificent seen through your eyes. Drenched in soft colours. All good energy goes to Batty and his regaining of health and wellness.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wiswebwoman: Magnificent is the right word. I hope to post yet more photos of autumnal colour from a different perspective next weekend too.
DeleteWhat an outstanding autumn display!
ReplyDeleteHere in Florida we get "brown" and "green" seasons.
Gini and I hope you're having a good week and we know you'll be happy when all the cats are where they belong.
Wally Jones: Summer is usually our brown season when the heat has burned off all the growth (and hopefully fires haven't finished the job). We had a damp summer which has given us a vibrant autumn. Both cats now have the fun of the home - which has some challenges but is much better. I hope you and Gini have a beautiful week.
DeleteYour trees have beautiful colors this year. I wonder if it’s because of the weather or is it like this every year? Your weather looks perfect, too. A great season to enjoy. My best wishes to Batty.
ReplyDeleteVagabonde: Our autumn is often beautiful but a wet summer has given it added vibrancy - and the weather is mostly gorgeous. Sunny days and cool nights. Thank you.
DeleteIf you didn't live so far away I would come visit you to see all those beautiful autumn colors and get away from the Florida heat which is coming up soon,
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: Florida's heat and humidity would do me in. We are often hot in summer (though not as hot as some spots in Oz) but it is usually a dry heat. Autumn is one of my favourite seasons. As are the others - except summer.
DeleteI really like those images to your street, they're truly beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing such beautiful colors!
PS Hope all went well with Batty!
Lon Anderson: Thank you. Batty has been cleared to join the family and continue healing. He and Odie are adjusting to each other again. The autumn colours are gorgeous aren't they?
DeleteI do hope your Batty will be okay! ♥ Your street looks so colourful and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteRain: Batty still has some healing to do, but seems to be getting better day by day. Which is lovely.
DeleteYour city is beautiful. Lovely photos as always.
ReplyDeleteAnxious to hear how Batty does.
Hugs,
Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: Batty is doing pretty well at the moment and he and Odie are adjusting to each other again. Hugs to you too.
DeleteIt takes a little time to go from being the only child to a sib again:) Love those flower boxes:) Hope you and Batty (and the rest of the fam) are having an excellent day. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: The cats are getting on a little better each day - which is lovely. It is early yet, but I don't have anything to complain about today. Hugs to you too.
DeleteLove that flaming yellow on your street.
ReplyDeleteHaddock: It is gorgeous isn't it?
Deletethecontemplativecat here. Autumn colors are always breathtaking. Hope Batty passes muster.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I am reveling in the autumnal colours. Batty is playing in the kitchen at the moment - definitely a good thing.
DeleteOh wow.. this is amazing! Love the wonderful colours! ♥
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Those colours are special aren't they? It is a grey day today and the colours just POP.
DeleteLovely photos as always. I kind of disappeared. I'd like to get back to creating my Sunday Haiga for this prompt. I took on too much this month and I literally thought it might end me up in the hospital. I need to be more careful these days.
ReplyDeleteOrnery Owl of Naughty Netherworld Press and Readers Roost: Thank you. I hope you can create your Sunday Haigas again but please pace yourself. And look after yourself (as best you can).
DeleteA couple of years ago, I read that just looking at pictures of nature is calming. That's your blog. What a site for sore spirits. Look at those colours. <3
