Sunday Selections #635

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. This week has been moderately busy and my body is again behaving badly. I have fallen over once and nearly fallen over lots of times.  By Friday I really, really wanted to go somewhere that wasn't an appointment, a commitment and didn't involve shopping.  So we went down to the lake.

It was cool, but the sun was shining.  And I got a kangaroo fix.

The roos were soaking up the sun and were totally 'laxed. They knew we were there but didn't care (and we kept our distance from them).

A little further on I delighted in the shimmer of the light on the water, when the sun mostly disappeared behind some cloud. And on some raucous silver gulls at the water's edge.

A little further again we spent some happy time watching a very skilled windsurfer.  I note he had a wet suit on, but hope he avoided actually going into the water.  It would have been cold.  Very cold. We haven't had a temperature over 14C/57F in weeks.

We felt much better after our outing.

I hope you find fun in your week too.

  1. It looks like a very relaxed and pleasant little retreat at the lake. The water looks so sparkly. This windsurfer appears to be very agile on that board.
Please, be very careful not to fall and dislocate a shoulder like I did or worst, a hip. It took me three years to heal and it is still not completely healed.

Wishing you some better days ahead.
    Hugs,
    Julia

  2. Love the Roos! I’m so glad you got to spend some time on yourself that didn’t involve appointments or obligations.
I hope the coming week gives you some relief from precarious near falling episodes. Major hugs to you, my dear friend.

  4. Stunning lake pictures, with the water shimmering. I feel like I could walk or float right into the photos. Are the kangs in a sanctuary or just roam free? I hate hearing you're feeling poorly and hope the rest of the week passes in peace and good health.

  7. What a lovely outing! The kangaroos always make me chuckle. Are they considered pests there? I'm imagining they must be something like the raccoons here - adorable, delightful to watch, and a giant destructive nuisance if they decide to take over one's property.

I'm sorry to hear that your body has been mutinous (again) - I hope it begins to behave itself soon.

  8. Oh, EC. I hear you mention 14 degrees and I wish that is what we had instead of a “feels like” 32. We have it cooler than many though! The 14 C is more my speed.

I love your photos. Getting outside and watching nature always helps me too. Take care, EC.

  10. Well the roos probably knew you were no threat so laxed out. I'm happy to be free of skeeters after the camp trip, where they were abundant. We're going to top 100 F on the 4th of July, so let's cross fingers for no fires, with people tossing fireworks about. I'm sorry your body is acting up.

    1. Strayer: If the roos had decided we were a threat they would have been off in a heartbeat. It is too cold for squitoes here at the moment - which is another reason to like winter. I do hope you don't get fires in the coming days.

  12. I love, love, love those roos. I immediately felt relaxed while looking at them. Your cold weather sounds good to me as we are in summer here in the mountains of NC. You have a wonderful eye for what is beautiful. thank you and please don't fall again. I worry about you, my friend.

  14. I'm glad your outing made you feel better, i really like seeing the kangaroos, too.

The windsurfer probably only had the wetsuit on as a precaution in case he did end up in the water. No matter how skilled you are, anything can happen and sometimes does.

My selections will be over here.

  17. We've had a few days of 15C and 16C but I still think that's far too cold. I wonder now if that frst Kangaroo is telling Junior, "stay in there is freezing outside!" They all look so warm and cuddly with their winter coats on. I always like seeing sunlight on the water.

    1. River: We haven't got to 15 or 16 in a while. I don't think that first roo had a joey in its pouch - but could be wrong. They did look contented in the sun didn't they? Sunlight on water is always a joy.

  18. You certainly got your Roo fix. I loved seeing them in the sun. Beautiful shots. And I was so glad to see you were able to have a bit of restorative time yourself. I was saddened when I read you have fallen several times, so just being able to relax and enjoy the day made it seem better. Add to that your awesome photos and I was in heaven.

The windsurfer looked at home on the water. I had to laugh at the temperature. 57 F would be ideal. In my world, winter is in the negative degrees, both F and C. Your winters are much milder than mine. Stay safe and stay comfy. Try not to do too much this week, so you can maintain that restorative feel you got from nature.

    1. Bleubeard and Elizabeth: 14C is my sweet spot. I am perfectly happy with those temperatures. Our winters are cool for Australia but certainly very mild for much of the rest of the world. That wind surfer was excellent.

  20. Hi EC - sorry to hear about the fall ... and those that were close; such a nuisance to be constantly thinking about something so natural. I'm glad you got to take your mind off things with a trip out to the lake to see the roos, also the agile exerciser walker on water! They all look relaxed in their day, while you sounded easier once you were having your visit.

My youngest daughter started the Victorian Kangaroo Alliance which is working with other regional and national groups to dispel the myths about them being a pest species and their numbers being high. This beautiful species is the focus of the largest land-based wildlife slaughter on the planet, the cruelty is heartbreaking, and their numbers are plummeting. It's so good that Nike and Puma will stop using kangaroo skins, hopefully other companies will soon follow. Your photographs are fabulous.
