Photo Prompt 20

The lovely Delores at thefeatherednest created a wonderful meme.  Each Monday anyone who wished to play would post a photograph.  Anyone was welcome to take that photograph and put up a post inspired by that photo, or to critique other people's posts.  Life has got in her way so Delores is retiring this meme until May of next year.

I participated a few times and then life got in my way.  However, on hearing that this was the last opportunity for a while I have made time.

This first image was posted by Delores herself.  She told us that the photograph is of her father.  I hope and trust that I am not treading on any toes here.

'You can't make me'.
'What can't I make you do?'
'Anything.  You are not the boss of me'
'So there.'

The second image was provided by Susan Kane of thecontemplativecat.

It is three twenty six on a sunny September afternoon.  And it will stay three twenty six and nothing will move, nothing will grow and nothing will prosper until my conditions are met.
Firstly the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter ( I am a traditionalist you know) must enter town by the western gate.
She must arrive on foot in a September with a blue moon.
On the day of that blue moon at three twenty six precisely she must greet by name the seagulls caught in flight overhead.

If these conditions are not met, time will stay stopped forever...

  1. So why would anyone try to meet the conditions?

    1. Dave King: I would hope that someone would want to try if only to bring the city to life again.

  2. That picture of the broad little boy... somehow I wonder what he looked like as an adult. And the conditions? Of course in any fairy tale the conditions must be impossible to meet. I was intrigued by this, EC. :-)

    1. A few posts back I used a photo of dad in his tween or early teen years .... it may give you an idea of how he developed. Same look on the face too.

    2. DJan: The conditions only looked to be impossible. The hero/heroine did always turn up. Some day I would like to explore what happened after the day has been saved. I have strong reservations about happy ever after...

  3. That piece on time was chilling...psssst....just a hint, the seagulls are Gertrude and Heathcliffe. Look out, I think they just spotted you.

    1. mybabyjohn/Delores: I was not in a good space mentally when that story started to percolate. I am hoping that Gertrude and Heathcliffe stay frozen if they have just spotted me.

  4. Your post for the little boy was perfect.

Hopefully, the seventh daughter of the seventh daughter will not show up at 3:27.

If the seventh daughter shows up late the town will be sorry. However, perhaps she was late for a good reason?

    1. One Minnesota Writer: He made me smile as well. And the whole concept of the photo prompt meme was fun - and it was amazing how different people's responses were.

    1. Riot Kitty: I wasn't thinking of Dr. Who at all, but I can quite see him bringing the seventh daugher in to save the town at the very last second. The unknown magic user who cursed the town would then be revealed as The Master. And, after the town was saved the daughter would be caught in a dilemma. Would she stay to meet her obligations in the town or would she continue adventuring? Which one would she choose.

  8. I thought the same as Riot Kitty.

    1. Windsmoke: As I started to reply to Riot Kitty it became obvious that there is a Dr Who series based around this frozen town.

  10. I like 'em both! Isn't it wonderful that a picture can trigger different thoughts in each person?

    1. jenny_o: While every picture tells a thousand words they are such different words. It has been truly fascinating. And some of the participants are truly skilled writers. And all of us had fun. Thank you Delores.

  11. Ha, I love the almost threatening note that time may remain stopped.

  12. Stopping time is like death without a story. Always waiting. Creative post, E.C.

    1. lutheranladiescircle: Death without a story, death without an honest grieving period, death with only darkness. Stopping time always makes me think of the grief that the family and friends feel when someone develops dementia. The person they know is gone, but there is someone still there, so grieving gets delayed. If that makes sense.

  13. Time stopping reminds me of an old Twilight Zone episode!

    1. Birdie: There are certainly a number of genres in which time stopping can be quite at home. Fairy stories, Dr Who, science fiction more generally, fantasy, and no doubt more that are not leaping to my tired brain at the moment.

  15. That's a very intriguing interpretation...You have a delightful imagination, just my kinda lady :). I am curious about your profession...what that might be...

    1. unikorna: Growing up my family pooh-poohed my imagination, since the rest of the family are strictly maths/science oriented. I retired early because my health made working no longer feasible. Before I retired I was a policy analyst. Since my retirement I have been a reader, a gardener, a cook and a volunteer. Many of those things let my imagination run free. Which is good.

  16. Clever interpretations! The little boy was not, absolutely not going to do what he was told!

The 7th daughter hopefully is wearing a Timex watch.

    1. Susan Kane: I suspect that the seventh daughter was granted the gift of knowing the time by an old woman she had helped in a wood...

    2. Dear EC, yes "chortle" is a great word. It's almost says itself! Thanks for thinking of it because it exactly says what I did when I saw that second photo! Peace.
