I am being a bit lazy this week. Just the one photo. Well two. Doesn't he think he is just Lord Muck? That position, warming his belly on the fish tank light is a particular favourite. He also likes to peer around daffodils.

Very cool cat!! - Love the fish tank. We just have a lone little fighting fish in an old glass battery case..our cat (when he lived with us ) used to drink out of it...

Andrea: That spot has the advantage that he can also watch the fish and the room. The tapestry came from Bolivia, brought home by the smaller portion some years ago. We both love it.
DeleteDear old fellow. Our cats each claim a register for the winter. One scardy cat who cannot bear the thought of being shut in a room always seems to pick the bathroom register, so he can run out when anyone comes in, and then sulk around feeling abused.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Our cats have both decided that visitors are poison. They growl and scuttle away, bellies to the ground. They then ensconce themselves in our wardrobe, moulting for all they are worth.

DeleteCats love to hide, and I laughed thinking that he's hidden while his whole backside is sticking out. Beautiful kitty nevertheless. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: He is not the brightest cat in the tool room. Not by a long shot. He is adept at opening doors which open away from him for example, and totally baffled by any that open towards him. Jewel has to open them for him. Which is a fair exchange since she is not strong enough to open the sliding doors to our wardrobe...

DeleteWhen we had a big fish tank, we didn't have a cat. Years later when we had a small fish bowl, the cat would sit beside it and watch the fish swim around, occasionally he'd dip in a paw and stir up the water a bit. Sometimes he'd drink a bit of the water. The fish didn't seem to even notice.
ReplyDeleteRiver: Jazz doesn't seem to be interested in fishing, though he does like to watch them. Some years back we had to drag one of the cats out of the tank - she had been watching a little too enthusiastically.
DeleteWe had a beautiful black cat for many years and yours does remind me of our Soot. He came to us secondhand, a very frightened animal. I spent hours getting him to come indoors and then to accept MOH but finally he did and they became best friends. We have a great head shot of him that MOH took and it is up on our living room wall so he still 'lives' with us. Thanks for sharing those beautiful pictures. xx

DeleteWhat a comfortable spot for a cat, lucky there's a top on the aquarium; I once had an all black cat named poncho, one of my present day cats, a yellow tabby, reset my surge protector this morning and turned off my computer. Oh I had a goldenrod photo languishing and used it today, what a good idea for a blog sharing of old photos.
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: I have not had a cat reset the surge protector (luckily) though we did have one that piddled into the wall phone. The phone didn't survive and it was touch and go whether I killed the cats as well.

Lynn: It is a perfect spot for him. It is off the ground, it is warm, he can look out the window, he can keep an eye on Jewel and us AND he can watch the fish. If I fed him up there it would be heaven.

ReplyDeleteI can't help remembering the roommate I lived with many years ago in college. She had a large fish tank. And a large cat. Her goldfish kept dwindling in number. One day the kitty was caught red-pawed, right in the middle of dragging up another victim from the small space behind the light... Glad to know Jazz hasn't figured that one out yet! Although the thought of cats being able to open doors makes my hairs stand on end! I'm glad we still have round knobs and not the levers we'd thought of installing... Yike!
And, yes, what is it with so many of us having black cats? I think of the bloggers I know, and the number who have black cats--and multiple black cats at that--are way out of proportion to the general population. Hmm.
Paper Chipmunk (aka Ellen): I am also grateful that Jazz is not all that interested in the fish. He likes to watch them, but has showed no other inclination. Fortunately.
DeleteHe opens the sliding doors to our wardrobe with ease - even when I have attempted to wedge them shut. He also opens the fridge and worse still taught that skill to Jewel. Now we have a child proof lodge on the fridge to keep them out.
As I said to Riot Kitty the term 'familiars' leaps to mind. I fear that many of us would have been burned at the stake...
Cats will defend their right to the most comfortable spot n any situation to the death - yours, not theirs.
ReplyDeleteFriko: You are more than right. My father used to say that if the weather was extreme to follow your cat (or dog as we had both) until they settled somewhere, evict them and take it over and you would find yourself in a comfortable spot.

Arija: We lost a cat who had shared our lives for more than twenty years a few years ago. I miss her still. Jazz is frequently vile and vicious - but has charm.
DeleteI'm reminded of two things: the resident cat in the hardware store (I love stores that have resident cats or dogs), who can usually be found under the light fixture display, toasting; and my old iguana Sparky, who would drape herself over the lampshade when the bulb was on.
ReplyDeleteMurr Brewster: I also love stores with resident animals. Our local vet has cats cruising the counters. Seriously indulged cats by both the vetinary staff and customers. I would have loved an iguana.
