Sunday Selections #115

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.

Like River I generally run with a theme. Today there is just one photo.  I am currently weeding, weeding, weeding to make room for all the spring bulbs I bought (most of which have arrived).  Yesterday morning when I first went out I caught sight of this gem, glistening in the sun.  (And if it hadn't been highlighted by early morning sunshine I would have walked into it.)

This next item is a thank you to River who posted pictures of this solar spinner on her Sunday Selections a few weeks ago.  I  immediately wanted to buy it for the smaller portion.  Thanks to information given to me by River and Mimsie it arrived here earlier this week, and he loves it as much as I thought he would.

And here it is in the daytime, hanging from the pergola over our back deck.

  2. Aren't spider webs amazing? They say that the threads are one of the strongest things on the planet! It just lows me away that a spider can be so creative! But how do they ever go from one tree to another throught he air? I mean do they jump off one tree and swing to the other tree. Kind of like Tarzen? Guess it beats crawling on the ground. A lot faster. I can just see them letting out the Tarzen yell!
WOW! More tired then I thought. lol. But I really am amazed by the designs, etc.
I also love the solar spinner. Such pretty colors. I bet SP loves it. Have a great day, Hugs, Teresa

    1. Snowbrush: That particular spider is only death on insects so I am quite happy to have it there. And our red-back spiders (which do have quite a bite) make very messy webs under tables and chairs and the like.

  6. Fantastic photo - I love the intricate, ephemeral beauty of spiders webs. It's so fascinating to watch them weave 'round and 'round and 'round.

That solar spinner is amazing! I could sit and watch that for ages too :)

And who is gracing us with their purrfectly charming audible presence this morning?

    1. Vicki: I am particularly fond of spiders webs on frosty mornings when they are outlined in ice. Rain or dew drops are good too.
And that was the smaller of our cats - Jewel. And believe it or not, her voice is smaller too.

The spider web...all I can say is it's lovely to look at. To walk into, not so much!!

  12. That's a beautiful web! I love how they look when the light catches them that way, especially when they're sparkling with dew drops. I've never seen a web with that weave pattern before! Wonder what species of spider created it?

Love your solar spinner! Our next door neighbor has a few of them in her front yard, and I enjoy watching them change colors from my window. I pretend that faeries are at work. :-) Out here, people like to put those on graves, too. They're plentiful in the local cemetery, and when we lived in the rental house not far from there, I rode my bike to the cemetery after dark one night, just to see them all lit up and changing color. So pretty!

I really like the idea of solar spinners at a cemetery - bright and cheerful.
Jewel was not pleading at all. I know an ultimation when I hear one.

  14. I have never seen a solar spinner - delightful. My heart skipped a beat for a moment when I heard your cat meowing. My Sophie has been gone for 2.5 years now and she sounded just like that.

    2. No worries - it made me think of her lovingly for a bit. She used to camp out on the futon in my office when I was on the computer for an extended time. I miss her "talking" to me.

When I had two cats, Cleo and Sophie, I could hardly breathe - my allergies to their dander was that bad. So while I miss having a pet, I'm better off without one. I just enjoy everyone else's pets now - especially your Jewel.

    3. Lynn: Years back I discovered that of the ten most common allergens I am NOT allergic to cats and dogs. Which is a huge relief - and you are more than welcome to enjoy Jewel.

  16. Oh, a lovely web, BUT...accckkkk...Aussie spiders can be deadly, and they freak me out! When I first went to live in Australia. I encounterd...a huntsman, the size of my fist, several redbacks living in my mailbox, and I was forever checking my shoes and boots for whitetails. Then of course there was the King Brown snake I encountered in the back garden, luckily I had my TALL boots on! I like the solar spinner, that can't kill you....right?

    1. Karen: Redbacks are everywhere. Huntsmen are not a threat, and I have been bitten by a white-tail. It died. (And no, I didn't whack it). Snakes on the other hand freak me out...

The solar spinner ... I am not sure what I am looking at. Please explain to me what a Solar Spinner is and, is that a cat I hear in the background? Whatever it is ... if must be very cool is SP loves it as much as you thought he would. I will wait to hear from you, then may have more of a comment when I know what I am talking about :)

Jewel was carrying on a right treat at I took the video. I had been outside and she wanted to go too. And failing that, wanted me to sit down and pat her. And pat her. And pat her some more.

I read awhile back about someone who was collecting web from orb spiders and then made a tapestry out of it. rather wacko. Not sure if I approve of pulling web out of spiders for arts sake?? http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113223398

Cats are so funny. they have such different calls and sounds. Mousey has a high pitched meow, Rora does a :ma-ow? questioning meow and tabby doesn't meow but rather he does a bbbbbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr? sound!!

    they are so fun
