Like River I generally run with a theme. Yesterday was a grey day, with intermittent (and very welcome) rain. From first light the birds were at our feeder - easier pickings I suppose. So I am returning to my avian obsession.
The King Parrots came in first.
They adore apple (green). I was a bit surprised at how widely they open their beaks to try and cram more in.
Then the Crimson Rosellas came to visit.
And then the Corellas graced us with their presence. And I loved seeing all of them.

Cor blimey missus. I love the green one, the look on it's face is brilliant and the colours....I've said before how lucky you are yes? In-so-far as birds in your garden go, yes I know, but if we must feast on a banquet of crumbs, at least let them be as pretty as these crumbs be *smiles.

Merlesworld: Unless the rain is torrential (which we rarely get) we seem to get more birds rather than less of wet damps. And the brighten a grey day very well.

ReplyDeleteladyfi: I was sure I had replied to you yesterday. Blogger ate the comment it seems. King Parrots are low on the pecking order. Flamboyant colours, but a fairly shy bird who is bullied by many of the others.
DeleteI still can't get over their colors so bright and the size of the red ones is quite big, what a delight they are to see.

DeleteIf I had king parrots and the occasional crimson rosella and little corella, I'd be happy to feed them too but when you have a resident flock of galahs and sulphur cresteds, I'd rather not attract them even closer to my fruit and nut trees. As it is, they pinch eack and every almond off my 4 trees. Ps, not a single parrot has ventured near my sunflower seed feeder.
ReplyDeleteMy hyacinths are up as well. Your altitude is higher than ours, in our other garden on Mt.Lofty, we have a 3 months shorter growing season than in Adelaide at sea level.
Arija: We get the galahs and the sulphur-crested cockies as well, but not in the numbers you do. The cockatoos uproot my tulips each year which peeves me, but other than that don't cause much damage.
DeleteSome of our hyacinths are up, and it will be a while before they flower. I can wait (which is just as well because I don't have any choice).

DeleteMimsie: I did indeed know you meant cheeky - and the phrase 'they have a cheek' applies to them as well. On Friday some Eastern Rosellas appeared briefly. They are even more colourful - but didn't stay to have their photo taken.

DeleteYour birds are so incredible. I always forget that parrots in the wild are right where they belong, rather than in a cage somewhere. That's the only place I have ever seen them, except for my fisherman friend's (now deceased) bird.

I had great difficulty getting out of bed this morning because of that reason...also having my two furry rascals snuggled up as close to me as possible didn't help, either. Not that I put up much of a battle or made much of an effort! Neither did they! ;)
ReplyDeleteLee: We have fog this morning. And some more rain would be nice - but isn't expected. Cats are very good at finding the most comfortable spot aren't they? Jazz has taken to draping himself across my ankles at night. He is warm, he is comfortable and he can tell if I get up (when I might feed him).
