Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. Today's post is much more light hearted than yesterday's. Huge thanks to those of you who commented. It is a subject very dear to my heart and I worry that I am beating my own drum too hard.
Last week we went to a kite festival. The festival, run in a nearby town, was cancelled by Covid last year and the year before. It was a cool day, a grey day, and a windy day. We were promised BIG kites that didn't fly. Just the same we had a delightful outing.
I hope your spirits are lifted this week.

DeleteThey are beautifully decorated and so very bright. The were certainly flying strongly but graceful too.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: It was quite a gusty day and there were some crashes too but when the kites took to the air they were certainly graceful. I don't think they can be anything else.

DeleteThere is something hopeful about kites and kite flying. It transcends age, ethnicity and social status, and brings joy. Maybe our politicians should fly kites.

DeleteOh, my, how lovely! I've seen such things on the Oregon coast where it's windy, but never here in the Willamette Valley, which is 60-miles inland.

DeleteLifted as high as these kites, thank you :) I love the kite rainbow in the first image and the individual rainbow kites are beautiful. The black and grey hawk, the multicoloured dragon (?) in picture ten, all so beautiful. Our kite festival is never as pretty.

DeleteThese are fabulous - the colours and designs are wonderful! People are so creative. I know folks were probably hoping for blue skies, but is it just me or does the grey sky as background actually show off the colours better? Either way, they are amazing. Thanks for sharing them.

DeleteSeeing all these wonderful kites reminds me of childhood. These are very fancy nowadays. There used to be a kite festival near the Washington Monument. Not sure if they still have it but when I first got married, my husband took me to see it. Such a wonderful memory. I also like that lady in the kimono, and the octopus is very cool. Love them all really.

DeleteThose are some super colourful ones! Reminded me of an occasion few years ago when a whole heap of my cousins got together in Calcutta and flew kites, 2017 I think. A lot of water under the bridge since then.

DeleteOh kites! I never flew one, but they look marvellous. I like the octopussy one second best - after the kite-formed ones :D The contrast to yesterday's subject could not be greater even if you tried. I read them both in one go, and was first cast down by suicides, the raised back up and more by the kites. You do great things.
