Words for Wednesday 31/8/2022

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.  And huge thanks to those of you who come back, sometimes time after time to cheer other contributors on.

This week's prompts are:

And/or

  • Gentle
  • Ordinary
  • Cards
  • Simple
  • Office
Have fun.  The prompts will be here again next month, but they are being provided by David M. Gascoigne

Sunday Selections #596

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Last week I was seriously in need of beauty and solace so, as we so often do, on the first sunny day we headed down to the lake.

We found both beauty and solace too.

The Dignity Drive is on again.  Inflation is driving prices up again (dramatically) so of course I contributed again.

I was pleased to find the items at the front of my selection, neither of which was available when I menstruated.

I hope you all find beauty, solace and support in your week.

I usually run with a theme. Sorry, this has been another busy and sad week (we said goodbye to Jazz yesterday) so it is more snippets from home, and specifically from the garden.  Spring is muscling her way in.

There is a lot of work that needs doing in the garden, but there is also beauty.  For which I am thankful.

I am going to finish with a different selection.  I recently finished a novel by Jane Lindkold called Changer.  It wasn't an outstanding book but this paragraph has stayed with me.
'From the first time a human slung his leg up over some cooperative equine, thus freeing himself from the need to slog along on his own two feet, the faster and farther a human has traveled, the further he has traveled from knowing the land that he traverses...'

I hope you all have a healthy and happy week, packed with things of beauty.

Words for Wednesday 17/8/2022

Last month's prompts were provided by Hilary Melton-Butcher for which we thank her.  This month they will again be here, and I am providing them.

This week's prompts are some typically Australian phrases/slang.  Feel free to add more, and use (or not use) these as you see fit.

  1. Pull the wool over his eyes
  2. Put a sock in it
  3. Dog's breakfast
  4. Gone walkabout
  5. Six of one, half a dozen of the other
  6. Tell him he's dreaming
Have fun.
