Sunday Selections #609

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  Covid has hit me hard and I haven't been out, and have barely been outside the house.  All praise to the Covid Team in my city who have been very helpful and very supportive.  Early in the week there was talk of a trip to hospital when my blood oxygen levels were very low which I am glad to have avoided.  I am now obviously going to live and don't mind too much.  Himself is also doing better and the kittens are finally improving as well, though they still have a way to go.

These shots were taken not long after first light and (just for a change) feature the garden.

I adore this double poppy and save the seeds and broadcast them each year.
Here is another, with the last of our orchids flowering behind it.

Believe it or not, there is a path under those prolifically blooming Peruvian Lilies (Alstroemeria).  When I can get back into the garden again I will try and clear it.

This is our veranda, first looking to the right as you come out the front door and then to the left.

My mother loathed calla lilies saying they were 'funeral flowers'.  I like them and am particularly fond of this Green Goddess variety.

Not only are the poppies thriving, so are the snails...

I hope your week is healthy, happy and blooming lovely.

I usually run with a theme.  This week is a little different.  The photos are not good quality (for which I apologise).  Coming home from Lifeline last week I had a truly exciting experience.  I didn't have my camera with me and these are all taken on my phone.  And taking photos was not my focus.

I got off the bus and started to head for home.  At the intersection of my street and a larger road I spotted something on the road which made my heart race.  I looked.  I looked again.  And I was right.  There was an echidna in the middle of the road.  It is quite a busy road and the echidna was definitely not safe.  So I headed into the road to stop traffic and escorted the echidna across.  It stopped at the gutter and just as I was thinking I was going to have to scoop it up, it climbed the gutter and headed into the undergrowth under a gum tree.  I do hope that it is safe, and also hope it finds friends/family.  My city is known as the bush capital and I knew that it has a population of echidnas but I didn't expect to see one in the suburbs.

And in other news.  The poor kittens still have feline coronavirus.  We will be going back to the vet again (hopefully early next week).  However that trip might have to be delayed.  Himself tested positive for Covid late on Friday, and I assume I also have the dread disease.  This is a bit worrying because both of us fall firmly into the vulnerable people category.  I haven't yet tested for it because our RATs are in short supply and while I can order others online they won't be delivered on the weekend.  How and where we got it is a bit of a mystery.  We are almost always masked in public, fully vaccinated and socially distanced.  We both feel very ordinary indeed (Australian slang for pretty woeful), but will hopefully recover quickly (though I may not be commenting as much as usual).

This photo (taken in the city centre) sums up my current feelings.

I hope you find sunshine in your weeks too.

I usually run with a theme. A little while ago I described the ambience of our home as cluttered on Andrew's blog.  The same is true of our walls and ceilings.  There are things I have made, things other people have made, photographs and souvenirs from trips away and things people have given us.

We have had the two oil paintings above for decades.  The artist was an Austrian man on a working holiday in Australia.  I love the way he captured quintessentially Australia countryside scenes and light.

I made the needlework above for himself's mama.  After her death it came back to us.

I bought the water colour above when I was away on a work trip to Tasmania.  I was cold and went into an art gallery to get warm.  I fell in love with this painting and my only regret has been that I couldn't afford another by the same artist.

In other news, the kittens continue to give cause for concern.  Odie in particular is still snuffling.  Both of their digestive systems are not happy.  The vet tells us that it could take weeks for them to recover.  Fingers crossed.  Tightly.

I wouldn't be me if I didn't include a couple of photos from the garden.

And some skyscapes, finishing with a pretty and hopeful dawn (well that was the plan until Blogger decided to reverse the order of my photos).

I hope your week to come is cluttered with joy.
