Its all gone a bit pear-shaped

I will be bowing out for a bit (again).

We are on our own again - which has some very big pluses.

However, the smaller portion's recovery is very far from smooth, in uncomfortable and unpleasant ways.
Clicking on this poor wet galah to embiggen him will reveal just what misery looks like

Courtesy of his sister I have a chest infection which is not (yet) responding to antibiotics.  Joy and bliss.

Recalcitrant bodies and minds are ruling at the moment.

I will be back when I can.

Sunday Selections #130

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life.  The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.

Like River, I generally run with a theme.  At the moment early morning is the only time I get to myself.  And how lucky I was to see this dawn on the first morning after the smaller portion came home - brighter and more vibrant that many of our sunsets.  And much, much nicer than the domestic duties I had earmarked the time for.  Trotting out with the camera was much more rewarding.  And a whole heap more fun too.

It is raining.

Literally and metaphorically.

The smaller portion is coming home today.  The hospital argued for yesterday, less than twenty four hours after they had allowed him food but (reluctantly) they agreed to let him stay for another day.  Big of them.

Where he is concerned, cautious optimism is the order of the day.  We are not out of the woods, but things are looking much, much better.

The literal rain is gentle and more than welcome.  The garden is drinking deep and daily more bulbs emerge.

The metaphorical rain?  His sister is unwell.  Running a temperature.  And difficult with it.  Sigh.  So I will have two invalids, neither of them well behaved, who need to be kept apart.  I really, really don't want him to catch whatever she has acquired.  And she refuses to see a doctor.  Or take any medication.

On the positive side, Jazz will be very, very happy.  Only the smaller portion is nice to him (or so psycho cat insists).  I have been punished daily with tooth and claw for being the wrong person.  Hopefully I will now bleed a little less.  Literally and metaphorically.

Like River, I generally run with a theme.  This week I am more than a little brain-dead so instead of a theme I am just putting up some of the bright spots of the last week or so.

The first ones were taken on the same day we saw the kangaroos from last week's Sunday Selections.  The cockatoos were having a fine time, feasting on fallen acorns.

Then dawn last Tuesday.

The next photos are of a sunset which brightened our world when we got home from the hospital on Wednesday.

Moving Forward

Little, by little.

The surgeon is pleased with himself (when are they not) and believes the operation was a complete success.  Good - but they said that this time last year too.

Today they closed the incision.  Yay.  The smaller portion had taken photos which were forwarded yesterday to his nephews who described it as 'an epic wound' 'fully sick' and 'totally awesome'.  Wuss that I am, I didn't enjoy looking at it.

He is still limited to sips of clear fluids, with food unlikely to be introduced before early next week.  The proof of the pudding will be in the digesting, so please join with me in crossing appendages in the hopes that when he is promoted to food again it moves through (and out of) his body as it should.

Wine o'clock continues to be one of the highlights of the day.

Sunday Selections #128

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

River is away this week, having a long overdue holiday.  She will be back next week.  This week was very, very busy here.  We are preparing for the skinny one's surgery on Monday, and I was demankifying the house for his sister's arrival.  In the middle I had another abortive appointment with the pain management clinic.  After which I demanded a treat.

So we went down to the lake to look at kangaroos.  As always clicking on photos will embiggen them.  You will see some fences in the background.  They are not to keep the kangaroos in, but to keep them out of a construction area.  The first photos are all of the same devoted mama and her joey.

And then rather a lot more photos.  The first is the joey I showed you earlier.

And I did feel soooo much better after this interlude.  So much so that we went back yesterday.

I am likely to be a fly by night blogger next week.  The hospital, the smaller portion and his sister are likely to use all of my time and energy.  I will catch up when I can.
