Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.
Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks),
and I have accepted the mantle. River may not join us this week,
depending on how her eye is adapting to the cataract surgery she had on
Thursday. If she doesn't she will be missed.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. Last week was another busy week culminating with a ritual boob squashing (mammogram) on Friday. So on Friday afternoon I demanded a roo fix.
And came away feeling much better. Nature (and water) is my happy place.
There were virtually no other people around, and the only noise was bird song. And yes, I did get my roo fix.
I hope you can go to your happy places this week.
That looks like a relaxing spot. And with no one else around that would be nice. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: We go there often - and always come away feeling better.
DeleteLaura Eno - Looks so peaceful and the roos relaxing is always a special treat to see. Thank you as always for taking us with you on your journey.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find more relaxation in the coming week than what you’ve experienced recently. Huge hugs and love to you!
Laura Eno: Thank you. So far this coming week looks a little better than the preceding ones - which doesn't mean that I won't want/demand another roo fix. I am going to head into the garden shortly. Ripping and tearing at weeds which I find remarkably cathartic. Much love. Always.
DeleteMost of the roos are standing today and looking quite regal. Love the water views as always. I think water might be my fix as much as roos are yours. and probably the nearby Adelaide hills, I do love being up high. My eye is much better, the surgery was ten days ago already, doesn't time fly! I've been avoiding housework to be gentle with the eyes, but the dust here is getting annoying, so I'll have to drag out the vacuum cleaner. Lola won't be happy about that!
ReplyDeleteRiver: I am glad your eye is better. I remember how beautiful the Adelaide Hills are from my last visit there (over 20 years ago). Do they still have crosses on the road side for fatal car accidents? Even then some corners were crowded. Water is always good isn't it? Moving or still.
DeleteYour happy place would certainly leave me smiling, too.
ReplyDeleteI pray your test results come back as "all is well."
messymimi: Thank you - on both counts.
DeleteWater is magnetic, isn't it? That looks like a beautiful spot. Do folks swim there in the warmer seasons?
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or do a lot of those roos look like they have full pouches? I think you've told us the babies stay in the pouches for quite a while. But I could be remembering wrong.
I hope your upcoming week is calmer and you get to do more things you enjoy and fewer things that are "have-tos". Thank you for the roo photos!
jenny_o: People do swim there in the warmer months - when there are not blue-green algae problems. I wondered about those pouches too. Sometimes young roos do stay in the pouch for a very long time. Or return to it.
DeleteA calmer week would be nice. Huge hugs sister across the seas.
What stunning water shots. The water looked clear, too. You take splendid photos.
ReplyDeleteThose roos are adorable. I love it when they stand at attention like that. They look majestic when they stand like that. I was also impressed with your nature shots. It shows the beauty of autumn in your part of the world. Thank you for sharing and inviting us along. Hope you get good news on your test results.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: The kangaroos do look majestic standing up but lying down (and there were several doing just that) they relax better than anything that isn't a cat.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteImportant though a mammogram is, it is sometimes not a nice experience, so a treat afterwards is definitely the way to go! A quiet, beautiful place is a balm to the soul. As is a roo fix.
Have a gentle week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Necessary but not fun. I am so grateful that my happy place isn't far away. Enjoy your week. And your garden.
DeleteHi EC - testing helps and can give us relief of mind, with the exception of the squished pain. Your peaceful roo fix must be ideal - I love not having many people around, despite being reasonably social. Have an easier week ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I am not social and my partner is even less so. It was lovely to have the lake, the birds and the roos pretty much to ourselves.
DeleteMy shaman made me do the mammogram thing last year. I am far more sympathetic than I once was. I passed ok. I'm glad you got out for some happy times.
ReplyDeleteBill: I am glad you passed that test. They are not a lot of fun are they?
DeleteWhat beaut happy place you have EC. Well spotted with the cormorant and Silvergulls! And I am also someone who loves being around kangaroos. I helped feed an orphaned joey recently, I think you'd love doing that too, if you haven't already
ReplyDeleteKim: You are right, I would enjoy feeding an orphaned joey, but love seeing the roos relaxed and comfortable in my happy place. The cormorant and the silver gulls were a bonus. There were sulphur crested cockatoos reeling and shrieking over head too.
DeleteGracias por compartir tan lindas y relajantes imágenes, de lo que parece ser un lugar paradisíaco que invita al paseo, y donde hallar la paz.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo, Sue.
Manuel: Thank you so much. It is a very lovely spot and we go there often. We always feel better for the visit too.
DeleteYou picked a great spot for a little soothing balm, Sue, and it was a happy moment when the kangaroos came to join you. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: You would like it there too. I thought of you when I listened to the cockatoos screaming over head, and watched the crimson rosellas and, and, and...
DeleteUns paisatges meravellosos i uns cangurs molt simpàtics .;-)
ReplyDeleteBon diumenge, Sue.
sa lluna: It is a beautiful spot. The kangaroos are not precisely friendly but they are certainly used to people. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteThat's what my wife calls the procedure as well.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: We are both being totally accurate.
Deleteit is lovely to have time in nature. Roos are a great way to enjoy the day!
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Time in nature is the best - as you know.
DeleteWonderful to see the roos, and Nature and water are also my happy places, dear friend. I'm glad you got outdoors for a bit.
ReplyDeleteDJan: I think that nature and water are happy places for lots of us. I spent some time in the garden too - ripping and tearing out weeds.
DeleteThere is something about water, and the peace it brings.
ReplyDeleteJenn Jilks: There is isn't there?
DeleteDo you take a picnic there, or are bugs a problem, like here, if near water? It looks like a swimming area roped off. Is it a natural lake or reservoir? I'm glad you found roo's to watch.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Lots of people do take picnics with them and there are several barbecue areas set up. Flies can be a problem in the height of summer. It is a man made lake but beautiful. And yes, that is a children's swimming area that has been roped off. The pontoons (that the silver gulls and the cormorant were on) is in deeper water.
DeleteAh, the ritual boob-squashing. Always a joy. (And a relief, when it's over and you get the all-clear.)
ReplyDeleteYour water photos are lovely and soothing, and thanks for the roo fix! :-)
Diane Henders: You are right about the 'joy' and the relief. They tell me it will be two or three weeks before I get the results. In the interim the water and the roos worked their usual magic.
DeleteI love your happy place, and I love seing your 'roo. I can fel my shouldres descending a few notches just by looking at them. Thanks! and crossing my fingers for a clean bill on the squished boobs.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): My shoulders drop too. Every time. Thank you.
DeleteOh my I agree with you I feel exactly the same way and lucky you to have a Roo fix at the ready! Great nature views, the water is so calm and another great place for your soul to recover!
ReplyDelete21 Wits: We do know how lucky we are to have this place so close to home. Water and nature always calm me.
DeleteIt all looks so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: It is. Calm, peaceful and beautiful.
DeleteBeautiful photos. I’m not feeling it this week to post photos. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteDanielle: Thank you. I hope you are inspired again next week.
DeleteI thought those bouncy things where just big grasshoppers.
ReplyDeleteMike: Given the damage our grasshoppers do I am v glad that they are not kangaroo sized.
DeleteWhat an idyllic place, you are blessed. Gigi Hawaii
ReplyDelete
DeleteGigi Hawaii: We are.
I love the idea behind Sunday Selections—such a wonderful way to revisit and share forgotten gems from the past! The photo you shared is lovely and really speaks to the peacefulness of nature. It’s great that you’re continuing this tradition, and I hope River is doing well after her cataract surgery. There’s something so soothing about nature, and I completely agree with you—time spent outdoors, especially near water, always seems to reset the soul. Thanks for sharing and keeping the spirit of this meme alive!
ReplyDeleteI also just published a new blog post and would love to know your thoughts: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/05/body-confident-you-body-confident-kid-book-review.html
MELODY JACOB: Thank you. It is a great meme and time spent in nature is always solace for me. I will visit your post shortly.
DeleteMay the results from your mammogram be good.
ReplyDeleteI certainly enjoyed the 'Roo Fix', many thanks for sharing the lovely photographs.
Nature is so calming.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. I am happy to share my roo fixes, and yes I do find nature calming. I hope the results will be good but have been told I won't hear for a few weeks.
DeleteThese are wonderful photographs. I especially like the three red trees presiding over the countryside. I got squished last month for the first time in at least 20 years glad it sounded the way and good on you for getting it done and caring for yourself aloha my dear friend
ReplyDelete"getting it out of the way" sounded the way? I like that too, LoL
DeleteCloudia: It needed doing and it was yet another thing I have been putting off. Done now, and hopefully dusted. Those three red trees were lovely weren't they but I also liked the golden poplars reflected like candles in the water.
DeleteWater and nature - great way to recover after mammography. Your photos are so serene - loved the trees reflected in the water especially. And the long shot of the three russet trees. Glad to be back here after the madness of April. Hope your week is going well.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: Isn't it a beautiful place. I have never ever been there and not come away feeling better.
DeleteThat could be my happy place as well. : )
ReplyDeletecontempladoraocidental: There are often next to no people there - which adds to the beauty. And joy.
DeleteA lovely spot and yes, you deserved that Roo fix!
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. Much of the area is wheelchair accessible too - which is lovely.
