Words for Wednesday 13/7/2022

This meme was started by Delores a long time ago.  Computer issues led her to bow out for a while.  The meme was too much fun to let go, and now Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a movable feast.

Essentially the aim is to encourage us to write.  Each week we are given a choice of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image.   What we do with those prompts is up to us:  a short story, prose, a song, a poem, or treating them with ignore...  We can use some or all of the prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.

Some of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on their own blog.  I would really like it if as many people as possible joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants.  If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.

The prompts will be here this month and are provided by Hilary Melton-Butcher .

This week's prompts are:

  • Synthetic
  • Aquamarine
  • Clock
  • Ring
  • Curious
  • Structure

And/or

  • Nuance
  • Blessed
  • Abalone
  • Blanket
  • Puff-pastry
  • Sea Silk
Have fun.

Sunday Selections #589

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme.  This week?  Snippets from home.  We have another outing planned but it will have to wait until after the school holidays.

I continue to delight in the sky.

I really like the way the sunrise was reflected on the hills in the valley.

We are still getting frosts, but they are nowhere near hard enough to freeze bubbles.  So I turn to the birds.

Word has obviously got out that the sulphur crested vandals will find sustenance here.

A male king parrot.

The female king parrot was obviously having a 'bad feather day' but I do like the chevrons you can see under her tail.

Aren't the Eastern Rosellas bright and beautiful?  This is a male, who is more vivid than his mate.

The garden needs a LOT of work, but is reminding me just why I expend so much time in it.

This camellia is spectacular isn't it?  It is blooming much earlier than usual - which has the benefit that the petals are not being burnt by the sun.

Most of you know that our lives are ruled by a resident cat, named Jazz.

Himself saw an advertisement for what was described as a cat tree - though I think cat castle is more accurate.  So he bought it, to replace the one that Jazz had shredded.  It arrived as a flat pack.  Some hours later we put it up.

Jazz is totally unimpressed.  If we pick him up and put him on it he purrs.  And gets down immediately.  Sigh.  We hope he will warm to it later.

I hope you all have a wonderful week - and impress the people (furry or otherwise) that you need to.

Sunday Selections #588

I usually run with a theme. I mentioned last week I had been on a small outing on Saturday.  Lifeline held a meeting and attendance was compulsory for reaccreditation purposes.  Sigh.  I really don't like meetings.  However, they sweetened the deal by holding it at the Australian National Botanic Gardens and promising us time to take a short (up to an hour) guided walk.

The gardens are extensive and in an hour we saw a tiny fraction of what the gardens have to offer but it was bright, sunny and welcome respite.  We walked through a little of the rainforest area and then went to the Banksia Gardens.  Despite it being winter there were plenty of flowers and some glorious trees.

As I so often say - come walk with me.

I do like the ever lasting daisies.

The tree house is a relatively recent addition.

A baby banksia.

We had a definitely chilly morning later in the week.  Just after 7 is was minus 4.5C (30F) and I was hoping it was cold enough to freeze bubbles.  Nearly but not quite.  The dawn was lovely though, and I have hopes that we will get a chilly (and still) day before winter ends.

Nearly, but not quite.

I hope all your disappointments this week are little ones.
