Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. I have often shown you the birds and the cats (real and ornamental) which decorate/clutter our home. Today I am focusing on the fish. Or some of them. There is a large fish tank in the living room (and goodness it is a bugger to clean) and rather a lot of other fish around, both inside and out.
First the real fish. Fortunately neither Jazz nor Jewel show any interest in them, though Jazz loves to warm his belly on the light on the top of the tank.
Then some of the other fish around the place.
And for Dana, a frog.

You have a lot of fish images and real fish in a tank, I didn't know. Isn't it hard to clean and keep tank fish? I like the painted rock, is it, fish. And the framed fish art above it.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Cleaning the fish tank is a vile job. Sadly fish are also prone to disgusting diseases. Funghi and fin rot sort of diseases. A lot of work, but sometimes worth it. And they are calming.
DeleteThe painted fish is wood - a very soft wood.
I love the fish collections! And having real fish tops it all off. You need one of those gigantic tanks filled with fish.
ReplyDeleteStephanie Faris: Only if I could have someone to clean the gigantic tank. The one we have is four feet long, and a thorough clean can take most of a day.
DeleteDo you have catfish and snails in there? They help to clean the sides and bottom a bit. We had a few snails in ours, 1993 I think, and the little buggers reproduced like crazy. Dozens of pin head sized snails!
DeleteRiver: We do indeed have catfish - several types, and usually snails. There have been deaths and an algae outbreak.
DeleteI likes my fishes on my plate lol.
ReplyDeleteDelores: A whole lot less trouble that way - but not as pretty either.
DeleteYou have a nice fishy theme going. Good thing your cats aren't interested in the real ones.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: We have in the past had fishercats. And at least one whose greed led to her swimming in that tank.
DeleteOh. Dear. That sounds like a huge mess and a scared/angry cat. And possibly fish fatalities ...
Deletejenny_o: It came as a huge shock to her, and she was out of her depth (literally and metaphorically). She was quite pleased to be lifted out, and fortunately no fish died.
DeleteFishy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Very. But not as smelly as fish markets.
DeleteI love the fish team =) I love fish to the point that I have two fish tattoos.
ReplyDeleteCrimsonAnna: Fish, particularly tropical fish, can be very, very beautiful. I know that the skinny one would like a marine tank...
DeleteThere's something fishing going on here!!!
ReplyDeleteYears ago I had a fish tank and one of my fish took control of the tank and got rid of the rest of his neighbours...I had him for a few years...I called him "Armadeus"...and he'd greet me every time I arrived home from work. (by swimming up to the side of the tank...not by saying "Welcome home!")!!!!
Have a great week, EC...I hope the Small Portion is feeling much better. Cuddles to the two Js. :)
Lee: We have had fish like that too. Fish who eat everyone invited into their tank.
DeleteThe skinny one is still not well. He has, however agreed to see the doctor if he isn't much, much better today. Hopefully when he wakes he will remember that promise (which I intend to hold him to).
I really like your fish collections as well ... colorful and cheery. You have many nice pieces in your home to enjoy. Have a nice week :)
ReplyDeleteWhisper Mist: I hadn't realised until I started to look around just how many fishy things reside in the home. There are quite a lot more of them too.
DeleteA good week to you as well. I hope your pain is less sharp this week. And next.
Thank you EC. It's life for all of us ...at some point or other.
DeleteWhisper Mist: It is, but it hurts just the same.
DeleteWhat great fish! I had no idea you were a fishionado. Hahaha! (Laughing at my own cleverness) :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: I am laughing at your cleverness too. A lot. Essentially my obsessions are legion...
DeleteI'm with Dana. I love frogs (ornamental, not real ones). Years ago I used to have a fish tank. As the fish got bigger, they would start cannibalizing the others. I gave up. A salt water tank would be my dream...as long as someone else came in to maintain it! I'm surprised the cats don't like to watch them. Mine would try very hard to go fishing. Of course, Jazz makes enough of his own mischief to compensate for his lack of fish obsession...
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: We too have had cannibal fish, and fisher cats. And himself would LOVE a marine tank. I am with you, I would like one, but would loathe the maintenance.
DeleteI'm a sucker for coloured glass. I love your glass fish.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: I love glass, coloured and plain. Until I wandered around with the camera I hadn't realised how many glass fish we have though.
DeleteLovely fishy stuff. Did you make the embroidered ones? I love the long narrow one with all of the different fish on it.
ReplyDeleteWe had fish tanks when our kids were young - guess who did all of the cleaning...
I agree about their calming effects, though.
Alexia: I did indeed make the embroidered ones.
DeleteThe fish tank belongs to the smaller portion. Sadly cleaning it seems to be in my job description. They are calming, except for when the cleaning rears its ugly head.
Love the fish theme here :) I hope you have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteOptimistic Existentialist. A great weekend to you too.
DeleteOther folk's aquariums are so lovely. I like the tree mobile very much.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: The mobile is also wind chimes. Sometimes very, very noisy wind chimes.
DeleteFish!
ReplyDeleteFish are so delightful!
You have beautiful real wee fishies and a fantastic collection of decorative fish.
I wonder if the sight of a big, black, furry predator belly up above causes consternation among them ;)
But, I imagine they're well used to Jazz by now.
Even though the tank is a lot of work, I think the visual serenity is worth it. I "disappear" into another world, when watching fish...
You'd like the ceramic fish I make - they're jointed, so the body and tails swing.
Some of my fish now reside in various QLD beach cottages, in Manly, NSW and seaside Victoria. Makes me feel humbly proud - there's an oxymoron :D
We had gorgeous goldfish - comets - in our large pond in W.A. I loved hopping in barefoot and puttering about, cleaning the edges, fountain and filter as our large (some well over 20cm) golden-orange beauties played hide and seek in and around my legs. They were very friendly.
Even when Jack barked into the water at them, they would come up to investigate the "sonic boom" from his bark. He never bit at the water, only watched curiously as they swam lazily around.
I miss my fishies so much!
One day, I'd love a pond again...
Thank you for this post EC, it took me down a watery memory lane.
I hope and wish that your dear is SP is well.
Wishing you both a wonderful week.
xx
Vicki: Your ceramic fish sound incredible. You are right, I am certain that we would like/love them. A blog post about them? Hint, hint.
DeleteThe fish aren't fazed by Jazz, probably because of his total disinterest in them. A notable fishercat we had caused them to dive any time she approached the tank. Disproving comprehensively the theory that fish have only a three second memory.
We had a pond with fish when I was a child. Birds treated it as a buffet, and my mother's cat used to put presents from the pond for her on the front door mat...
Lots of lovely fish.
ReplyDeleteMerle...........
Merlesworld: Fish are often very, very pretty. A dental surgery we went to had them, and it did reduce my fear. A bit.
DeleteI think fish in a room are relaxing! My one son had an aquarium in his room. We had trouble keeping it clean...keeping fish alive. He finally could not stand the fish dying and he gave it up. It was work but I liked it for a while as did he.
ReplyDeleteBookie: It is work. Sometimes a lot of work. In one of our homes we had an aquarium in the bedroom. A huge mistake. The bubbling water meant I had to make many, many nocturnal bathroom visits.
DeleteBeautiful! I miss having a fish tank. So relaxing to watch.
ReplyDeleteThings Are Looking U.P: I like them - but would really, really like someone else to take responsibility for the upkeep.
DeleteSomething decidedly fishy about this post today...
ReplyDeleteI like all your fishy ornaments and the tank is lovely. I miss having a fish tank. No room for a large one and I won't have a small one because Angel would be in it all the time.
River: I suspect Jazz n Jewel couldn't resist a smaller one. Luckily the big one is just a belly warmer for Jazz - though Jewel demands fish flakes each time I feed the fish. And is given a pinch.
DeleteI love these EC. I don't have any tropical fish but I used to actually love going to this one dentist years ago because he had big tanks of them in the waiting room, with all these colorful prints on the walls. Made going to the dentist a pleasure, almost :) Your photos are great!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Tropical fish help - but they are nowhere near enough to make me actually LIKE going to the dentist.
DeleteYou curate a lovely life!
ReplyDeleteALOHA from Honolulu

Cloudia: I try. Thank you.
DeleteGreat fish photos. I think it would be relaxing to watch the fish, but then I'd get stressed out trying to clean the tank. :)
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: Cleaning the tank is not fun - but worth the effort. Which I have to keep reminding myself.
DeleteAh - what lovely fish of all kinds!
ReplyDeleteladyfi: We do love our fish.
DeleteAll those oceans we share truly are full of fish it seems, and as imagery goes I like them too, in all shapes and sizes, even those with faces like a smacked arse and tiny lanterns hanging in front of their mugs. Nice to see more of your collections dearie, and I hope the skinny one does as he's told and gets to the doctor.
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: All shapes, all sizes, all colours. Fantastical beings which I could never invent - but love seeing. His high and skinniness HAS gone to the doctor. Finally.
DeleteI sure do like that wind chime.
ReplyDeleteLon Anderson: Thank you - so do we.
DeleteI do love a fish tank, but as you say, a bugger to clean. My ex-husband and I always had a tank, but he cleaned it. I loved the soothing sound of it. Love all your fish stuff and the frog, too. :)
ReplyDeleteLynn: They are restful, but the sound of the fish tank sets my bladder into overdrive.
DeleteI'd love to have a fish tank, but they are a pain to clean. Love all your fish :)
ReplyDeletemshatch: Thank you.
DeleteOOO, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI shall be looking for something interesting for you, Sue. xxxx
My Inner Chick: Thank you. And the interest you provide me with is gift enough.
DeleteAs you've realized by now, I haven't been anywhere: even my own blog. Whisper Mist tipped me off that you had a frog on your post for me, and here I came running. Well....crawling. lol But I got here. You are the sweetest gal pal around to think of me, but I also have glass fish sitting around my home and I LOVE the way the light shines on them. The photo of your widdle fishies made me stop and stare. Especially at the one on the far right and the one in the middle at the bottom. methinks I would love to stroll through your house.......at night when you and his royal skinniness are sound asleep...... just sayin'.
ReplyDeletelotta joy: Jazz the attack cat would hear you. So we are safe. Glass fish can become an addiction can't they? Quickly.
DeleteMy favorites are the glass fish paperweights. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/In the Land of Cancer: My favourites changes with the wind, the season, the time of day, my mood...
DeleteI wish Peggy would get interested in fish so that we could have a large fish tank without me having to take care of it.
ReplyDeleteSnowbrush: I hear you. I would rather not look after this one either. I do enjoy it when the work is done though.
DeleteSo many fish! So colorful! I love the fish the sun shines through. I bet they cast some pretty color spots around the room. We have a 45 gallon taank. Some of the fish are on the old side and we lost a couple since Christmas. I think these fish have lasted longer then any we have ever had. A nice mixture and everyone seems to get along. As most are getting long in the tooth we expect some more to die off. Funny how a person can get attach to a FISH! But when our yoyo loach died I really missed him. He started out about 3/4 inch long and was about 5 inches long when he died. Have a great day. Flu here today, so laying low. I hope the SP goes in for a check-up. Hugs, Teresa
ReplyDeleteTeresa: We have become very attached to some of ours as well. Sadly, some have not lasted long enough for us to get to know them...
DeleteYou are quite a collector. I believe a person should always surround themselves by the things they love :)
ReplyDeletetotallycaroline: I am a collector, my partner is a collector. The house is crowded with an eclectic mixture of things. Colour and whimsy in every corner.
DeleteI loved your "fish-focused" post! :-) Great colours, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
A Cuban in London: Thank you. Fish do have stunning colours. Fish, birds, and insects...
Deleteya must love fish ;O)
ReplyDeleteAuthor R. Mac Wheeler: I do like them, but was surprised at how much fishabilia there is in the house.
DeleteI love this fishy garden and all the unique art gathered here.
ReplyDeleteSome of the photos wouldn't come up....must've darted behind some
seaweed as my shadow came close:) I love the way you see the
bright of the world:)
-Jennifer
Jennifer Richardson: I hope the shadows disappear and allow the images to be seen. And loved your analogy.
DeleteYou have such a way with words. And colour. And growing things.
All gorgeous dear El Chi, and this ex-keeper of Tropicals knows the pleasure is worth the cleaning effort.
ReplyDeleteWhile we are all thinking of Nemo and our GREAT Barrier Reef that industry wants to destroy, could I urge you all to go, as I did, to the GetUp! website and donate $20 to fund the campaign to save it from becoming a coal boat terminal dumping horror.
https://www.getup.org.au/campaigns/great-barrier-reef--3/save-the-reef/save-the-reef
Ann ODyne: Already done. I have been contributing to their efforts to save our precious reef for quite some time.
DeleteSome day, I will post a picture of my wooden fish. When people see it, they say "ooooo, you collect fish!" I can just see people giving me unwanted fish. I have to point out that I do NOT collect fish, just that one. I do like that first stained glass fish and all your fish.
ReplyDeletePractical Parsimony: I don't collect fish either. Or cats. I get given rather a lot of them either. I will admit to collecting books and earrings.
DeleteYou certainly have a lot of fish ;)
ReplyDeleteMichael D'Agostino: We have a lot of everything. Way too much of most things.
DeleteI really love the variety of fish you have....we used to have an aquarium at our old house but could not bring it with us....so my husband tends the pond which is fishless but he takes care of the frogs, plants, insects, snakes and other critters that visit.
ReplyDeleteDpnna@LivingFromHappiness: I think I would rather have a pond than an acquarium. Water is an issue here and we don't, but I would love to have visiting frogs and water loving insects (and plants).
DeleteQuite fishy, your place... :-) Watching fish can be very relaxing, but I would hate cleaning the tank, so I stay with the "outer" fish. Is there a story behind all the fish?
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: No real story. The skinny one has had fish tanks for a lot of years, and over time the number of fish ornaments has grown. And grown. Gifts for people who really don't need anything? Acknowledgement of their beauty? A combination?
DeleteHow you must love animals. You surround yourself with live ones and symbolic ones. Your home expresses your heart. That's wondenderful.
ReplyDeleteMyrna R.: Not just animals, but nature. The beauty, the vitality, the serenity feed my soul.
DeleteI collect books about fish, and about medieval fish illustrators. I really love the colours and forms of fish, and if I ever draw anything, it is usually a fish. I have a couple of those beautiful glass fish like yours and the sunlight on them is wonderful. EC, I do hope the SP is okay; thank goodness he finally took your advice...
ReplyDeleteCarol: Fish are incredible aren't they? The colours, the shapes... The skinny one will be ok. This time. It was getting to be a bit touch and go whether his neglect or I killed him.
DeleteLove all your fishes - especially the "stack" of fish in the vertical cross stitch - lovely. Did you do all those cross stitch pieces? They are very, very nice. And I have a special place in my heart for frogs as well.
ReplyDeleteI see above that the SP is still not feeling well. I hope the doctor was able to do something for him. He must have been quite poorly to go in the first place. Hugs, EC.
jenny_o: I did indeed do the cross stitches.
DeleteThe doctor is able to help the smaller portion this time. Not a major issue - he has bronchitis. Or it wouldn't be a major issue in someone whose lungs don't spontaneously collapse from time to time. Antibiotics and time. He does sound better today.
I hope he mends quickly. My dad has COPD and gets chest infections frequently and quickly, so I know the sinking feeling. Thank goodness for antibiotics.
Deletejenny_o: Thank you.
DeleteYou do have a nice collection! We had a big saltwater tank when we lived in Florida. It was so nice, but you're right, a real bugger to clean. :)
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: They look wonderful when they are clean, and vile when not. And I really, really dread the cleaning process. Mucky and exhausting. I suspect that is even more true of marine tanks, with one more thing to monitor.
DeleteAquariums are gorgeous, but I wouldn't want to have to clean it. I bet that's NOT fun.
ReplyDeleteLove all the colorful fish - alive and in art form. Dana appears a likeable creature too.
Rawknrobyn: Thank you. Dana is indeed likeable. Even lovable.
DeleteMy immediate thought was the same as River about this being rather a fishy post today.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the variety you have particularly those outdoor fish and the coloured glass fish. Thank you for sharing such beauty with us.
Glad you included a frog as they are very special in my world.
Sorry to hear the SP is under the weather and hope he will soon be feeling much better. Hopefully he will pay a visit to the doctor for help if he doesn't soon improve.
Mimsie: Fish (and frogs) are indeed very beautiful. And special.
DeleteHe has finally gone to the doctor, and hopefully we are on an up hill trajectory now.
I am a bit fish obsessed. I have multiple tanks and can stare at them for hours. I also have lots of fish decor. Nice to see I am not alone. :) Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS (Jess): Multiple tanks? Wow. It would look wonderful, but I hope you don't have sole maintenance responsibilities.
DeleteWow. Vasil and Mandrake would go nuts!
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: I cannot tell you just how much Jewel WANTED that butterfly. If Jazz had been awake he would have joined her.
DeleteI love the pictures. Anything colorful has my attention. I'm sick of all the bleak white snow.
ReplyDeleteSonya Ann: I am sick of the blazing, burning sunshine. Some world-wide weather moderation would be nice.
DeleteThat's an awesome fish collection that would look great in the dragon cave. :)
ReplyDeleteAl Diaz: I didn't know you had a weakness for fish. They are beautiful. And should get on reasonably well with the dwarves too.
DeleteThere is something relaxing about looking at fish, real and created, and I needed a bit of relaxation tonight, thank you (and thanks for the frog too!).
ReplyDeleteKim: So much that is natural is relaxing to look at. Which I need to remember.
Delete
