Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. This week? Mornings. Very different mornings. These photos were taken over a couple of weeks, all at around the same time (within half an hour of first light).
We have a family of crimson rosellas visiting at the moment. They are usually here at dawn and at dusk. The young ones haven't got their full adult plumage yet and are looking a bit scruffy with the green overlay competing with the crimson and blue.
And, because I am, as I have said, a creature of habit, more bubbles. Strayer asked whether I had created 'coloured' bubbles. And River suggested food colouring in the detergent. So....
And if you embiggen the last shot you will see 'frost flowers' starting to form on the bubble's shell. I found it fascinating.

Were those foggy shots for moi? Thank you, anyway.
ReplyDeleteNice to see the Redcoats(as my friend's daughter used to call them)again.
dinahmow: Redcoats is a brilliant name. Love it. No fog this morning. Redcoats, King Parrots, and a light frost. And pigeons.
Deletedefinitely winter
ReplyDeleteGosia k: It is, but there are signs that spring is on the way.
DeleteNice pictures. The foggy ones remind me of the early days I used to have. I don't miss them at all. How did I manage to get up?
ReplyDeleteTreey Stynes: I quite like fog, but suspect we get less of it than you. And am an early morning convert.
DeleteThanks to you, frost bubbles are on the schedule for us this coming winter, EC. We'll do them wih the grandkids who love bubbles any time but have never seen them in winter. Fun for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: I hope your grandkids (and you) have as much fun as I did. I doubt you could have more.
DeleteIs that a grapefruit?
ReplyDeleteThat first picture of the sky is LOUD! That's the only way I can think to describe it.
Sandi: The grapefruit is green apple. Which is permanently on our shopping list because a lot of bird species love it.
DeleteI am intrigued by your description of the sky as LOUD - it certainly got my attention.
Great pictures--- I love the birds and the morning shots.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. It is one of my favourite times of day.
DeleteThe first photo is a startling color combination! Such a rich, deep blue with a burst of light.
ReplyDeleteYes, those are some scruffy-looking birds. :)
The frost flowers are pretty incredible, too.
River Fairchild: You will be shocked and surprised (not) to learn that when I saw that sky I rushed inside for the camera, and took many, many photos.
DeleteQuite shocked... *she says in a droll voice*
DeleteI can only say that your dedication to performing the crazy-woman-with-camera-at-dawn dance in the street gives the rest of us great pleasure witnessing the results. :)
River Fairchild: Mad woman (with or without the camera) is a given here.
DeleteI see I am not the only devote (mentally insert accent; I cannot figure it out) consumed by the first picture. It's great.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I loved it too. A different start to the day, but so very beautiful.
DeleteStunning are the pictures, the Parrots and balloons, sort of. Brilliant images of the fog EC.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: The balloon link to frost bubbles goes some way to explaining why I love them...
DeleteLovely collection.
ReplyDeleteHave I ever mentioned I love skyscapes/clouds?
Author R. Mac Wheeler: You? Like skyscapes and clouds? Who would have guessed. Next you will be telling me you like trees.
DeleteI absolutely love that first shot, EC - it is spectacular. It doesn't hurt that it's in my favourite colour combination - white, deep blue and black. I don't know what it is about that combo but it has a strong hold on my heart.
ReplyDeleteThe twin sister trees are looking beautiful, too, with their pink, blue and grey background. And I always love your foggy shots. And your feathered friends.
All your pictures are balm for the soul. You know how to find the beautiful bits of life.
jenny_o: I am a beauty addict. I look for it and collect it greedily. Luckily there is a lot about. Isn't it fascinating the way some colour combinations claim us - for no apparent reason.
DeleteIt is fascinating. As I said, I will try to make those bubbles coming winter.,.. which I do hope will take its time to arrive since it is sooooo long!!
ReplyDeleteThose birds are beautiful!!
And the sky pictures are equally great!!
Caterina: I am very happy for you to hang onto summer for a long time yet. And thank you.
DeleteI like the upside down bird.
ReplyDeleteThe frost is so refreshing. Especially as our heat index has us at 110 degrees right now.
Alex J. Cavanaugh: I do hope you have somewhere to escape that heat. It sounds like a foretaste of hell to me.
DeleteI love the blue bubbles and the parrots as well as the colors of your skies...It is no wonder you enjoy being outside so much. Happy weekend!
ReplyDeletee: I find solace, healing and beauty outside and revel in it. I hope your work in nearly done and that you and Jacob are having a great weekend.
DeleteAnother two weeks...sigh!
Deletee: I hope that two weeks flies by.
DeleteYou know I like those frozen bubbles, but that Crimson Rosella... Wow! How colorful.
ReplyDeleteMartin Kloess: Aren't they lovely? Such dapper birds (when they have their full adult plumage).
DeleteMuch loveliness here to feast the eyes on. Thank you! That first cloud pic is brilliant, and I particularly like the 2nd foggy shot - you have framed it beautifully.
ReplyDeleteI liked seeing the scruffy rosellas, and the blue bubbles are a stroke of genius! I have to say that I like the broken one - it looks like a strange alien flower.
Have a good week.
Alexia: Thank you. I have a weakness for broken bubbles too. And revelled in the fog. The crimson rosellas are, of course, always welcome (scruffy or not). And we do feel incredibly privileged that the adults bring the youngsters to visit.
DeleteAnother lovely start to a week, EC...thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great week...cuddles to Jazz, and positive thoughts to Angel. :)
Lee: Definitely positive thoughts to Angel. So many...
DeleteNice big and wide skies, plus atmospheric fog. I think we have almost had bubble freezing weather. You must be becoming quite skilled at the frozen bubble blowing. Ever thought of busking.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: I suspect you have indeed come close to bubble freezing days. I am getting better at it, but won't be busking.
DeleteI'm still on a blogging break but stopped by to say hello. Great pictures, EC. Stay warm.
ReplyDeleteBirdie: Lovely to see you. I hope that life is treating you much more kindly.
DeleteThe first picture is remarkable. All of them are excellent. But that view takes your breathe away.
ReplyDeleteNice mixture of photos, I love birds. I guess I was born on the wrong continent. We have lovely birds here. But the Crimson Roselles are very beautiful.
Ann Bennett: I am endlessly grateful for the views I can get just a few steps away from my front door. And love our birds, but get a big green-eyed over rather a lot of yours.
DeleteLiked each and every one of the photos, a great day to be out and about no doubt. Greetings to you!
ReplyDeleteBlogoratti: Thank you. Several great days to be out and about.
DeleteBlue bubbles! I love them :) They look like clear and frosted glass. The last one with the frost flowers is just lovely, I'd frame that. I like your early morning photos, in particular the first one. I don't see crimson rosellas here, so thank you for those.
ReplyDeleteRiver: Thank you for nudging my lazy self towards actually attempting coloured bubbles. It was fun, and not difficult. The crimson rosellas are with us for most of the year, but the eastern rosellas visit more rarely.
DeleteBeautiful skies, bubbles and birds! I never tire of the cloud formations here in FL. Even my sister, when she visits from her (cloudy!) country, marvels at how beautiful Florida clouds are. They make our sunsets spectacular...
ReplyDeleteMolly Bon: Clouds are a never-ending joy. And I still make up stories to myself about the shapes I see in them. I hope I always will.
DeleteWhat fun! That last picture looks like a fantasy trip I've taken when high on drugs. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: My drug taking days were never that beautiful...
DeleteI find it fascinating also! bubbles with ice. Oh my the sky was so pretty. Those birds are so unique, colorful...amazing
ReplyDeleteKim Standard: I am glad you enjoyed this selection of some of my obsessions.
DeleteReally nice pictures, I like the first picture of the clouds really well, and the birds also, in the first one the bird almost blends in, I had to do a double take to see him, the red one popped though ha ha.
ReplyDeleteJimmy: We assume that the green colouration of the young birds is for camoflague purposes - and it works really well doesn't it. When they get their adult plumage it is much, much harder to hide.
DeleteI am surprised the parrots can take such cold weather.
ReplyDeleteKinda Starr: They are at home here, and don't seem bothered by the cold. The heat of summer is another matter. They frequently seem to 'wilt' at the hottest part of the day. In winter we are more generous with food for them, which probably helps them keep their energy and warmth levels high.
DeleteHi EC - stunning shots ... and I love the mix. The rosellas are so pretty - but it's good seeing the young ... and they are 'long thin' birds ...
ReplyDeleteGreat to see the bubbles again and those frost flowers - fascinating as you say ... cheers Hilary
Hilary Melton-Butcher: It is lovely seeing the young and we feel so honoured that the parents bring them. (They turn up on their own as well). The frost flowers are beautiful aren't they? I am sure there is a more accurate term but frost flowers is the way I think of them.
DeleteI love skyscapes too, and these are superb. Blue bubbles in the frost - fascinating ...
ReplyDeletecatmint: Thank you. Having first heard of freezing bubbles a couple of years ago I had to try and create them. This year I have succeeded. And yes, skyscapes are a daily delight.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteWow! The birds, of course, so brightly coloured. Also the coloured bubbles - what a success they are. Ethereal, ephemeral and beautiful. I'm enjoying your experiments.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. I have been enjoying playing and am glad that others do too.
DeleteLove, love, love the pics! I love seeing your natural habitat, and your amazing parrots, and . . . frozen bubbles! Thanks for the mental health break.
ReplyDeletePaper Chipmunk (aka Ellen): I am so glad to provide some respite for you - and wish that you didn't NEED the break. Hugs.
DeleteThe first photo was my favorite then I saw the fog photos and they were my favorite until I saw the last shot. Oh well, they are all my favorites. Such beauty. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: What a lovely thing to say. Thank you.
DeleteThose are great shots of the mornings. Your fabulous birds always put me in awe.
ReplyDeleteStarting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: We are awed and grateful to our avian visitors too. So very grateful.
DeleteBeautiful photos. That bird is stunning.
ReplyDeleteRick Watson: Thank you.
DeleteThose young rosellas are indeed a bit scruffier than their adult counterparts. Love the bubbles :)
ReplyDeletemshatch: They will soon be as dapper as their parents. And less able to hide...
DeleteGood morning and thanks for reminding me about the apple in the tree! I'm going to hang one too! Been awhile. Your bubbles are incredible. But best of all, you, Cloudia and Mac always have the best of the best sky photos. I keep saying I see those same kind of skies, well sort of, and I'ms till trying to catch one too! By the way, I let Alexa play something she thought I'd like and she said here is Nora Jones. It's lovely background music and like always she adds in other artists too. Not sure how she puts it all together, but it's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteKaren S: How nice to have someone/something which thinks it knows your taste - and is right. I hope your birds become as partial to apple as ours are. I think they consumed six yesterday.
DeleteLovely photos, as expected!!
ReplyDeletefishducky: I am so grateful for a digital camera. Take a kazillion photos, delete most of them.
DeleteI don't think I've ever seen frost form on bubbles before. Only in movies. It's kind of incredible.
ReplyDeleteRobert Bennett: I was blown away.
DeleteBRILLIANT, the colored bubbles!!! I LOVE them! Thank you for doing it!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: It was my pleasure. I was surprised at how well it works, and will have to experiment with other colours.
DeleteI can't wait to see the results!
DeleteStrayer: It is starting to warm up. Further experiments may be delayed till next year.
DeleteI love the bubble shots, very cool. And I'm still jealous of the birds you get in your garden. ;)
ReplyDeleteLL Cool Joe: It was cool. Literally and metaphorically.
DeleteEven in winter you live in a colorful world.
ReplyDeleteJono: We do. And, as I think about it, in some ways it is more colourful than our summer, where many of the colours are bleached away by the sun.
DeleteAnother great Sunday Selection EC. Awesome shots!
ReplyDeleteDenise inVA: Thank you. We live in a beautiful world.
DeleteThe last photograph is incredible not that the others aren’t beautiful but that one really is very special.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think I’ve seen rosellas so I will be looking out for them on our next visit. They look as if they were enjoying the fruit.
Have a lovely week.
Barbara Fisher: There are several different types of rosellas - and we only get two of them here. Beautiful birds, and yes, they do like apple.
DeleteI am pleased that the 'frost flowers' seem to be popular. I debated about adding it to the post.
My beautiful bubbles are back! I really enjoy looking at them, and the birds are so lovely. Thanks for making my Monday morning! Hugs...
ReplyDeleteRO: Thank you so much. I will (probably) have a break from bubbles for a while, but the birds will continue. Have a wonderful week.
DeleteI love the frozen bubbles every time! and frozen bubbles with frost flowers are just superb!
ReplyDeletekylie: I was outside feeding the birds and wandered up to check out the bubble shell. I was amazed to see the frost flowers - and had to go inside for my camera. Of course.
Deleteoooo I like the blue bubbles! And the frost flowers. No colourful rosellas here doing fancy upside down tricks, but I do have an naughty acrobatic squirrel who insists on hanging upside down on the hummingbird feeder and drinking the sugar water from the little holes in the top. Little furry nuisance! or I could say worse,,,,ggrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: The upside down stretch for apple has been perfected by quite a lot of our birds. How I would love to see your squirrel. And hummingbirds. I know that squirrels are often considered pests, but...
DeleteOh my gosh, these are wondrous, EC. The skies were my favorites till I saw the birds. Then the birds were my favorites till I saw the bubbles.....
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I am so lucky with the generous and kind comments I receive. Thank you.
Deletehave to try the colored bubble trick this winter which hopefully will be in a long, long time. The crimson parrots were stunning
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/In the Land of Cancer: If delaying your winter keeps it here I would be very, very happy. Spring is fine but I am already dreading summer.
DeleteYou always make my Monday special with your Sunday selections.
ReplyDeletecleemckenzie: As I said to Sandra, I am so lucky in the kind and generous people who visit me and comment. Megathanks.
DeleteAbsolutely amazing photos. The parrots are lovely. Must try those bubbles when winter comes.
ReplyDeleteRasma Raisters: I hope you can try freezing bubbles when winter rolls round again. I know it is not your favourite season and a little bubble fun might help.
DeleteThe frost flowers are fascinating - I fully agree. And I see a few eyes looking out at me in a few of the other bubbles.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week, EC.
Rawknrobyn: My ever-loving family talked about small things for small minds. I stick my tongue out at them. I revel in the small wonders.
DeleteI hope your week is blissful - chocolate filled bliss. And cooler.
If our winters ever became this cold, I'd love to try this. I'll tell my sister!
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I have really enjoyed freezing bubbles. And am so grateful that I saw a link somewhere which alerted me to the possibility.
DeleteI love the bubble shots, very cool. And I'm still jealous of the birds you get in your garden. ;)

phann son: Thank you. I have visited your site, but my language skills are totally inadequate. Could you put a translate gadget up please.
DeleteWow! You captured some amazing shots. Love the close up of the frosted grass plus the bubble pictures.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: We haven't had much frost for the last few days, so I was glad to capture its beauty.
DeleteWow. The food coloring worked out well didn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat color is next?
YOU, have a great day.
Sandra Cox: The food colouring did work well. Messy though. If I experiment further, probably red next time.
DeleteI hope your day is blissful.
Dear EC, I just love those bubbles. I'm traveling to Idaho over Thanksgiving to be with my adopted family and I am so looking forward to blowing the bubbles with the four children. They will be so delighted.
ReplyDeleteAs to morning photos. I'm sleeping later and later each day, so I seldom ever see a sunrise or those moments before the sun's rays actual appear here. When I used to go camping in the woods of northern Minnesota, I"d be up and making breakfast at that time! Peace.
Dee: I hope you and the family have as much fun with bubbles as I have.
DeleteI am an early riser, but it isn't entirely by choice. Jazz/pain/insomnia get me up earlier than I would like. There are benefits, but some days I would love to sleep.
Dear Sue, I so hope that one day soon you'll have a lovely, mysterious, magical surprise and sleep, sleep, sleep into a rest that leaves you feeling so energetic and strong.
DeleteI'm getting 8 to 10 hours a night as part of this recuperation that is going on. Not getting much else done but "for everything there is a season." I trust that. Peace.
Dee: Thank you. I rarely sleep more than two hours at a stretch these days. Essentially napping.
DeleteI am really glad to hear that you are getting the sleep you need in recovery mode.
Good morning. I love the deep blues in the first photo.
ReplyDeleteYOU, have a colorful day:)
Sandra Cox: It is still dark, but I am definitely hoping for a colourful day. And hope yours is lovely.
DeleteI love moody morning weather like that AND blue bubbles!
ReplyDeleteLynn: Oh good - because I do too.
DeleteYou really have a lots of different weather there. The bubbles are lovely colors. And all your photos are interesting, and the parrots are beautiful..
ReplyDeleteI've been very lazy to visit any blogs. We have had quite hot weather here and I've spent a lot of time with my grandchildren.
Have a nice time !
orvokki: Not lazy. Your priorites are different. And family is MUCH more important than blogs. I hope you get some cool relief and enjoy your time with the grandchildren.
DeleteLove the bubbles. I have always wanted to try making them in the winter. So cool! The blue is fun too. Such variety in the sky pictures- an ever changing canvas. ;)
ReplyDelete~Jess
DMS ~Jess: The bubbles were great fun and I have had more success with them this year too. And how I love the sky.
Delete
