Sunday
Selections was originally brought to us by Kim of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could
post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. I am going to continue with our trip to Floriade this week, but we have made the decision we won't be going back to Floriade this year.
So more photographs of the low key quirkiness and some of the blooms from Floriade 2018.
I like the use of parsley as a decorative plant.
We didn't go on the Ferris Wheel this year. The plants were not out sufficiently to see the best of the patterns on our visit. Next year perhaps.
The main Floriade entrance - which we didn't use either coming or going.
Another vegetable used for its decorative qualities.
I thought this one looked sad and disgruntled.
And a sneak preview from Tulip Top Gardens which was one of our excursions this week. Not all of their blooms were open either, but it was a totally blissful outing. We went to an outdoor sculpture exhibiton in a nearby rural village too. And there will be photos of both in future weeks.

Ooohhh! Love the beautiful flowers, and smiles at the strange tire creatures. And thank you so much for taking me along with you. I did miss the ferris wheel, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: I suspect the ferris wheel is not high enough for your adventurous self. Next year. Almost certainly.
DeleteThe flowers are so colorful. Great pictures as always.
ReplyDeleteJamie Ghione: It is a really colourful time of year - and thank you.
DeleteA shame Floriade was disappointing this year. Makes us remember the years we enjoyed more. I still enjoyed your photos. I am reminded of my much younger years and my neighbor who taught me vegetables grew nicely in flower gardens, too.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I was disappointed - and WILL be back next year. Vegetable do indeed grow nicely with flowers. Which I need to remember in my own garden.
DeleteYou made me smile and laugh! I love you my sister
ReplyDeleteCloudia: I am very glad to hear that, oh sister across the seas.
DeleteOh that floral dress! So much love for this:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us come along with you in the Springing:)
-Jennifer
Jennifer Richardson: There were LOTS of those floral dresses. I liked this one best.
DeleteFun way to use the tires. Hope next year you can see more patterns.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: The tires were fun, but I did prefer last year's whimsy. Which is not to say we didn't enjoy ourselves. We did.
DeleteMy favorite is the last photo showing the cherry blossoms. I was surprised to find cherries in Utah in a National Park. We could taste the fruit but if we took any out of the groves, we'd pay !.00 per pound which isn't much
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/In the Land of Cancer: You would have loved Tulip Top Gardens. They have over 1000 blossoming trees, most of which were out when we visited.
DeleteFabulous images garden EC, I love it.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: Thank you. I am glad.
DeleteThese are super photos. I liked them all very much but thought the fashionable mannequin dressed in flowers was really neat. Also liked that last panorama. The last time I went on a Ferris Wheel was in the middle of winter. It was bitterly cold up there but what fun we had all bundled up in our heavy coats, scarves and mittens.
ReplyDeleteDenise inVA: The ferris wheel is really the only way to appreciate the patterns in the garden beds, so we go up most years. It is a fairly wimpy wheel though.
DeleteSehr schöne Bilder von den Blumen und Blüten in allen Farben.
ReplyDeleteNoke: Thank you. There will be many more photos of flowers to come. From our garden and from Tulip Top.
DeleteAnother cheerful, colourful end to another week.
ReplyDeleteI hope the coming week treats you well, EC. Cuddles to Jazz. :)
Lee: This week will be quieter than the last couple, but I hope still filled with colour. Thank you - and scrootches for Remy and Sharma too.
DeleteI just love tulips. I also love Pac-Man! The gown made of vegetation is stunning. Thank you for 'bring us' to the Floriade. :)
ReplyDeleteBea: The Pac-Man screen was on the fence near the exit we took, and it made me smile. I am a big fan of tulips too (and count the ones blooming at home).
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteAlthough it might have been disappointing compared to other years, it was still a lovely sight (or perhaps you carefully focused on the best bits for our viewing pleasure!). I think the sad and disgruntled display was Gru from Despicable Me, especially as there was also a minion. The dress was lovely.
I'm looking forward to more tulips...
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: I am glad to have a name for Ms Disgruntled. My awareness of popular culture is sadly deficient. I did recognise minions but have no idea whether they also have names. The dress was stylish wasn't it?
DeleteYou will see LOTS more tulips.
The minions do have names but I only remember Bob and Kevin.
DeleteSo much beauty - thank you. Seeing your close ups of flowers always reminds me of the line "to see a world in a grain of sand" . . .
ReplyDeletejenny_o: That is a much better phrase than the one my family used 'small things for small minds'.
DeleteI agree with you, especially since I share the trait :)
Deletejenny_o: The little things are huge in my world.
DeleteBeautiful blooms and blossoms! The manican/ statue is amazing! The tire characters are really cute and you described the one perfectly, lol disgruntled lol what a great place to visit!
ReplyDeletelaurie: Floriade is an annual treat. I wasn't as impressed this year as in some other years, but we are still very glad to have gone.
DeleteThere are some good flower combinations this year. Clever use of the parsley but it needs to thicken up a bit yet.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Quite a lot of things need to thicken up a bit. A cold patch may have delayed them. School holidays will make it way too crowded in the next couple of weeks though.
DeleteLove how they used the tires. I have to say that your own yard beats theirs for beauty though. And, you know, less people... ;)
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: You are a shameless flatterer. Thank you. Less people is always a win.
DeletePerhaps some years the flowers pop out sooner than other years. It still looked like a lovely time.
ReplyDeletemessymimi: You are right. It does depend on the weather, and has to last for a month. You are also right that we enjoyed ourselves.
DeleteTruly gorgeous EC! Love all the flowers! That manican with the flowers on her, was so pretty! I agree, that one tire statue, looked sad. Did you get yourself a balloon? They looked so cute! Thanks for the great pictures! Big Hugs!
ReplyDeleteMagic Love Crow: I didn't get a balloon. I was more tempted by the umbrellas, but resisted them too. The floral dress was incredible wasn't it? It was created by students from the local technical college.
DeleteVery cool about the students from the college!
DeleteI have to admit, the for umbrella was adorable!
for was suppose to be frog! LOL!
DeleteA colourful post. Flowers make us happy.
ReplyDeleteI still have to wait a few months for spring!
Enjoy while the temperature is still bearable
Caterina: Flowers do indeed make us happy. And there will be LOTS of them posted here over the coming weeks.
DeleteThat first photo is a glorious mixture of colours. I'm sorry you didn't see the patterns from the Ferris Wheel, but at least you enjoyed your visit.
ReplyDeleteAlexia: There were so many colours, and the air was perfumed too although we saw no hyacinths this year. It would be completely ungrateful of us not to have enjoyed our visit, despite wishing they had done more.
DeleteIt does look as though the beds are a bit thin so far this year. The dress is always my favourite and I love the way they have used black painted leaves around the neck. Very sculptural.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to tulip tops
kylie: There was a whole tent full of dresses and many of them were sculptural. That one was my favourite.
DeleteThe floral dress (7 and 8 down) appears to be the Aboriginal flag in the midriff. I wonder if I'm the only one notice?
ReplyDeleteAnd of course edibles go well in floral gardens!Sometimes, I'd ask The Man to pick some parsley and he'd say "From where?" "Either from the lavender path or the pansies in front of the spa."
Thank you for the tour.
I noticed the flag!
Deletedinahmow: I wondered how many would notice/comment. And I do love that comestibles are regularly included in the Floriade displays. After all pansies (which always feature) are also edible.
DeleteI noticed the flag and forgot to comment on it. The dress is lovely.
DeleteRiver: Isn't it?
DeleteI love the tire person...
ReplyDeleteBill: I am glad your inner child is alive and well.
DeleteThank you for the lovely tour!!
ReplyDeletefishducky: You are always welcome to come on our excursions.
DeleteI think I like Tulip Tops better than Floriade, but there were plenty of things to smile at here. The tyre minions, the pac-man screen, those whimsical balloons and the chocolates umbrella. I love that and want one :)
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad I can't smell the flowers from here.
River: Hay fever sufferers must have a miserable time at Floriade. I really liked the umbrellas too. The frog one was gorgeous, but so was the chocolates. And yes, Tulip Top Gardens has first place in my heart too.
DeleteThere’s certainly a lot to feel blissful about in that beautiful outing. Thank you for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteKalpanaa M: Floriade and Tulip Top Gardens (photos to come in another post) are annual pilgrimages for us. Sculpture in the Paddock which we went to for the first time this year may join that list.
DeleteCutting the tyre in an S shape continually around the tread of the Tyre, gives the tyre a more decorative appearance by using the half tyre above one completely buried. The buried tyre will have a reserve of water in its rim too. Half a doz mixed petunias will last months, But pick of the dead blooms for continuity.
ReplyDeleteVest: An interesting thought. The blooms in these tires need only last a month.
DeleteSuch beautiful flowers. Fall is beginning here and I already miss summer flowers.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: I do love spring but am dreading summer. As I suspect many people on your side of the world dread winter.
DeleteSpring is lovely there. And I love those planters made from tires.
ReplyDeleteRick Watson: Spring is lovely everywhere. The tyre planters/sculptures were a relatively cheap and effective addition to Floriade.
DeleteOMgoodness, That dress!! I want one! xx
ReplyDeleteMy Inner Chick: I suspect it would be heavy and itch, but I would happily admire anyone brave enough to wear it.
DeleteSo neat to know and see that herbs can be used as decorations and not just sprinkling on food. Colorful plants and fun balloons - yay! Happy Sunday and Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteRO: My brother regards herbs (and vegetables) as the decoration you put on the plate to make the meat look better.
DeleteSo many pretty flowers. I like the flower dress.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. If it didn't make this post even more photograph heavy I would have put up some of the other floral gowns on display.
DeleteHi EC - well the fact the flowers weren't quite out has given us another view of your Floriade ... yes I love parsley in amongst the blooms - not so happy with the floral cabbages - not sure why ... but not for me. Mr Disgruntled does look that way ... while your other photos cheer this Autumn soul from a foggy, very damp Vancouver Island ... take care and have a good week - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: The kale did look good en masse, but I accept that its beauty is a very subjective approach. I hope your soul doesn't mimic your weather.
DeleteExcelente trabalho fotográfico, gostei de ver.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e bom Domingo.

Francisco Manuel Carrajola Oliveira: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteOh thank you for the wonderful artful whimsy, the leaf and dried flower girl, so a lovely fashion statement. You are beginning one of my favorite seasons and the flowers are outstanding! I just know you left feeling on top of the world!
ReplyDeleteKaren S.: Thank you. Spring is one of the happiest seasons isn't it? They all have beauty but ...
DeleteWow, wonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteNas: Thank you. It is a wonderful festival. Even in years (like this one) where some of the displays are disappointing.
DeleteThank you for these beautiful photographs by the artists who design the beds for the flowers. I needed this. Hope you are doing well. So glad you could get out and enjoy. Love your spring.
ReplyDeleteGlenda Council Beall: Your comment worries me a little. Are you ok? Spring is a beautiful time of year and I am revelling in it. Despite the work that ensues.
DeleteWonderful and fun. Love the flower dress:)
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: It is good isn't it? Designed and made by students.
DeleteThere is a pic of a beautiful Bottle Brush within the fence of our front garden but some old guy in front is spoiling the picture, click on pic to enlarge.
ReplyDeleteVest: You are right, that is a spectacular bottle brush. The old guy doesn't look bad either.
DeleteLove the quirk - flower outfit, tyre minion planters disgruntled and all. Brilliant and fun!
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: I am a huge fan of quirk and whimsy. Always. And colour.
DeleteThat flower and bark dress would be worth the visit on its own! All lovely.
ReplyDeleteLynn: I really wish rather a lot of my blogging friends could have been with me.
DeleteThe painted tires, now that's clever, love it.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: It was. Cheap and cheerful.
DeleteWow...these are fabulous...and I, too, absolutely adore that wonderful outfit - I am seriously tempted to try to make one myself! ;))
ReplyDeleteHugs xoxoxo
Ygraine: If you do make one I would LOVE to see it. Hugs received and reciprocated.
DeleteThose tulips!!! I haven't ridden on a Ferris wheel in years. I need to do that since I love being up high. Gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteTeresa
T. Powell Coltrin: Thank you. The tulips are spectacular - and I am loving the ones I have in bloom at home too.
Deletelove the manikin with the flowers and mosses as a dress; can you imagine planting all those plants in such neat rows, ugh.
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: I don't plant in rows. Himself does, but I plant in front, behind and between his rows so they don't show.
DeleteAll of the blooms may not have been out, but those that were are spectacular. Love the minion planter :) And the lacy veggie, too.
ReplyDeleteCarol Kilgore: There is something about mass planting. And yes, spectacular is a fair description.
DeleteOh that flower dress is so pretty!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.henatayeb.blogspot.com
Hena Tayeb: It was. I am awed by the skill of the designers.
DeleteThat mannequin is better dressed than I ever have been!
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: And me. Much better dressed.
DeleteI don’t know what picture I love the most! The dress ranks right up near the top.
ReplyDeleteBirdie: You would have loved the tent which was full of floral dresses. They were incredible and I picked the one I liked best.
DeleteThe one red and white petaled flower in the first batch is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteTake gentle care and enjoy the week.
Rawknrobyn: That is a lovely tulip isn't it? I might try and track them down for the garden at home. I hope your week is excellent.
DeleteSorry you were a little disappointed with Floriade this year …
ReplyDeleteBut I certainly enjoyed seeing the wonderful mix of photographs you've provided.
Like many who have commented before me - I think that floral dress is wonderful.
Hope October has started well for you, I wish you a good and happy tenth month :)
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. It is amazing what can be done with bark, leaves and flowers isn't it?
DeleteWonderful photos such colorful flowers. Hope October is an inspirational month for you.
ReplyDeleteRasma Raisters: So much colour everywhere. October is looking like a mixed bag at the moment. Some wonderful things, some less so. I hope your month is great.
DeleteWhat a gorgeous spring extravaganza!
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: One of several my area generously give us. For which I am thankful.
DeleteWOW, WOW, WOW....gorgeous flowers. And such cute decorations with the tires etc. So creative. Glad you got to go, too bad it was less than previous years. Thanks for the visit, always appreciated. Gotta play catch up a bit, but well worth it.
ReplyDeleteSandy: We are obviously spoilt and I am a tad ashamed of myself for being greedy. I was disappointed, but it is still a lovely spectacle.
DeleteSuch gorgeous flowers. I envy you the trip. Love the dress on the figure and the minion! :-)
ReplyDeleteRoland D. Yeomans: Long time no see. Thank you.
DeleteI love the frog umbrella:)
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I did too. I was tempted by it, but resisted.
DeleteThe flowers are absolutely gorgeous, and I LOVE the Minions planters. What a clever idea! I think the one you described as disgruntled is supposed to be the "despicable" Gru.
ReplyDeleteI love those frog umbrellas, too. I don't think I would've been able to resist.
Susan: Thank you for educating me. Poor Gru. He/she looks much more disgruntled than despicable to me. I was surprised I resisted the frog umbrella. But I did.
Deletea lot more colorful than my views this past MC ride
ReplyDeleteAuthor R. Mac Wheeler: You had rain (which we need) and fog (which I love).
DeleteWOW Fabuous Sue. Remonds meof the wonderful gardens in Amsterdam we saw last year.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson: Wait until you see Tulip Tops.
DeleteI absolutely love that flowery frock!
ReplyDeleteKim: It is clever isn't it? Probably not comfortable to wear, but lovely.
DeleteWhat a stunning display of colors! I can understand why you go there every year - such a wonderful welcome to spring. What really got me is the dress - that is a piece of art! Simply amazing.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Spring is welcomed here. We have not one but two nearby festivals to exult in it. And yes, that dress is indeed art. Ephemeral art, but art just the same.
