This
meme was started by Delores a long time ago. Computer issues led her
to bow out for a while. The meme was too much fun to let go, and now
Words for Wednesday is provided by a number of people and has become a
movable feast.
Essentially
the aim is to encourage us to write. Each week we are given a choice
of prompts: which can be words, phrases, music or an image. What we
do with those prompts is up to us: a short story, prose, a song, a
poem, or treating them with ignore... We can use some or all of the
prompts, and mixing and matching is encouraged.
Some
of us put our creation in comments on the post, and others post on
their own blog. I would really like it if as many people as possible
joined into this fun meme, which includes cheering on the other participants. If you are posting on your own blog - let me know so that I, and other participants, can come along and applaud.
The prompts will be here this month but are provided by Margaret Adamson, and her friend Sue Fulcher. The prompts will also include photographs taken by Margaret's friend Bill Dodd
Sadly Sue is unwell and Margaret is very, very busy so neither of them are likely to use their prompts this month.
Here are this week's prompts, which this week are photos taken by the talented Bill.
And/or
Have fun.
Your secret is safe with me Bobby. I will never tell anyone that it was your bark (definitely worse than your bite) which smashed that window. Try as you might you just couldn’t reach that high note. It was a quackingly good party though, and the acoustics in that disused building were amazing.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant EC and well done at combinding both photographs into 1 story
DeleteHa ha...opera singer dog...
DeleteBrilliant indeed. It got me laughing.
DeleteHugs, Julia
Love it:) Made me smile
DeleteHeeheehee! Wonderful.
DeleteVery well done EC :)
DeleteWhat a nice surprise! Excellent, EC, Excellent!
DeleteBrilliant - well done ... a creative take on those very different photos ... all the best - Hilary
DeletePerfect! I rambled on too long and wish I had done a short grouping of words like you did.
DeleteQuackingly good party:) Ha!
Delete@Elephant's Child: This is great. I like how you put these two images into a story. I like that you used the word 'quacking.'
DeleteHave a lovely day.
Love it! Poor Bobby, he looks so guilty...
DeleteLOL! So cute! LOL!
DeleteThis is my 1st story from the 1st photographs.
ReplyDeleteArchie, I think it was a big mistake us coming back to see where we had first met and fall in love over 50 years ago The warehouse where we weaved the linen was such a happy place even through the work was long and tiring.
Just look at it now, windows broken, rust everywhere, and the rain pours in through the roof.
Well Mable, perhaps you are right but I just want to tell you even through this building has lost its sparkle and is now abandoned, my love remains as strong and loving as all those years ago and to me you looks as pretty today as I first clapped eyes on you when I saw you at your loom.
Margaret Birding For Pleasure: This is lovely, and I do like Archie's positive attitude. And his love which is more lasting than the factory.
DeleteOh...I like this.
DeleteNothing stays exactly the same, that doesn't mean love has to grow cold. Very well said!
DeleteI am pretending Mable and Arthur are a duck and a dog. Ha, ha,ha... A Very good tale of love.
DeleteHere goes. 2nd story, 2nd photograph
ReplyDeleteBertie, you really will have to start eating again. You are going to be ill otherwise.
Gertrude, you don’t understand, Mr Henry meant everything to me, I miss him so much, it hurts me all over.
Would it help if you talked about it, sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved.
You see Gertrude, when no one else would have me at the pound and I heard people laughing at my pointy ears, Mr Henry took pity on me, adopted me and from that moment, I became his faithful friend. We would go everywhere together and have such adventures.
Then quite suddenly he had a heart attack and now he is gone and my life seems pointless.
But Bertie, I also am your friend and I heard my mistress Clare say recently she would love a well behaved dog to take for walks. I am sure she would love you as much as Mr Henry did.
Now if you just will sit up like a good dog and look less dejected, I will go and ask her.
Margaret Birding For Pleasure: Nice one. I do hope that this potentially VERY sad story has a happy ending.
DeleteThat sounds like the start of a promising new friendship.
DeleteKeep going...
Delete@Margaret Birding For Pleasure: For some reason I want to tie your first story with the second one. They seem to go together.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
"Don't worry Stud. It happens to everyone."
ReplyDelete"Grrrrarfff." Stud's tears fall slowly onto blades of grass.
"We'll try again in the morning. My quacker can't wait."
Stud's demeanor shifts. Head raised, he barks in his most dogged tone, "ARRRRRFFF! AAARRRFFF!"
-----
Sorry, EC. I just couldn't help myself. =)
Rawknrobyn: Poor Stud. I hope he is better in the morning.
DeleteVery nicely done, and amusing, too.
DeleteAt least he got a bit of symapthy
DeleteHeehee. Thank you, ladies. This was fun.
DeleteAnd let's hope things worked out better this morning for those two. =)
@Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com: I found this funny even though I may have misunderstood this but I guess the reader can interpret this their way.
DeleteHave a lovely day.
The duck with her little dog friend is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteGoose?
DeleteSandi: I saw a duck - but could well be wrong. Again.
DeleteShe was a Pekin duck.
DeleteI called it a duck.
DeleteQuite the interesting and contrasting shots.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: They are aren't they?
DeleteAlex Are you going to have a go at a short story?
DeletePrimera toma:
Besos y a cuidarse mucho
eli mendez: Thank you so much for joining us. I would be wondering just what sort of a weekend was on the cards if anyone had taken me to the building in the first photo. Definitely not a romantic get away (though Margaret made it one).
DeleteI do hope that Ben finds the friends he was promised. He (and they) will benefit.
Look after yourself.
FIRST STORY
DeletePerhaps it was a !dirty weekend! they were having. if so it deserves them right
sECOND STORy
Perhaps was having a bad day and I am sure he will come round to be a very good friend in time
Going away from dark humor:
ReplyDelete"Okay, I'm sorry, Butch. It was an accident," Waddle quacked. Butch groaned, covering his face with paws. "I just didn't know your testicles were still there."
G
My brother Don was driving the tractor down the road when he saw a field of cows and one bull. A goose had taken up residence there until his wing healed. He kept trying to dig out grains from the manure. Bull didn't like that, so he chased the goose off. After a few tries, the goose sneaked under the bull and nipped his testicles. The bull chased him a few time, with the goose repeated. Finally, the bull gave up, goose ate fine.
DeleteSusan Kane: Ouch. Years back I was visiting a friend with three small boys. There were falls. There were bruises. There were tears. The father (and my partner) pretty much ignored it - until one of the boys fell on his testicles. Both men rushed to his side - with identical looks of concern.
DeleteLines like that are why we should not eat or drink while reading at the keyboard.
DeleteWaddle probably not make that mistake again!
DeleteHa, ha, ha, ha....
DeleteHeh.
DeleteOh, is that not the sweetest picture ever.
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: It is a charmer isn't it?
DeleteThat last photo it just so sweet :)
ReplyDeleteMargaret D: It is a charmer isn't it?
DeleteFrank and Mort told me these prompts are not for them, they will wait.
ReplyDeleteMy story will be over here.
messymimi: I look forward to seeing what you can do with the photos - and look forward to more of Frank and Mort's story when the prompts fit.
DeleteI loved the whole story a happy ever after ending to that story I just think it is shame you do not copy onto Sue's site here for everyone to read and enjoy.
DeleteI don't see any problem with people going to other sites to read and enjoy.
DeleteHey doggy, we need to get out of here. I saw a broken window. It's all downhill for the neighborhood now.
ReplyDeleteMike: That poor dog was certainly feeling guilt wasn't it? Or was it fear?
DeletePerhaps not a bad idea.
Delete2nd photo: If she doesn't stop quacking on about her amazing egg count, I'm asking for a divorce.
ReplyDeleteRiver: Love it. Mind you, my sympathies are (as usual) with the woman.
DeleteA man with no empathy or sympathy!
DeleteI bow to you my duckie dear ... I do love you so much and could do with a beaky tickle around my ear ... you know I love it - can't purr but am sure happy. Dear heart ... you know how much I love you ... please give me a little tickle ...
ReplyDeleteWonderful stories above - fun reads ... Hilary
A beautiful love match and why not Hilary. AH!
DeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I love it - and that this couple are not prejudiced about 'diffence'. I hope he does get that beaky tickle.
DeleteWho wouldn't love a beaky tickle:)
DeleteYou've all written good, laughter or thought provoking stories. These photos just do not speak to me. I hope for better luck next time.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): It happens. Some days the prompts speak to us much more clearly than others. I do love your continuing tale though and look forward to seeing where the next prompts will take you. And us.
DeletePity Charlotte you find the photos too challenging for a few short words but perhaps words are more suited for you.
ReplyDeleteI love these stories and the photos were good challenges. My story is a bit too long. I try not to do that but it just kept going.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: I really enjoyed your story and as I said in the comments my brothers had a very similar experience.
DeleteA very believable story and one that I am sure happens with little boys today (and maybe even girls) and yes I can imagine the ending.
DeleteThis one is hopefully going to be very interesting
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson
DeleteSteve: It is already interesting and I suspect will get more so before the week is out. Why don't you join us? You would be very welcome.
Delete😃I will be glad to see how it works some day.
DeleteI haven't write much in these few months so it's nice to jot down something. I really like that second photo and somehow I just thought up a conversation between this odd couple - link here.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day.
lissa: I have been out all day but will head over and read your story shortly. I really look forward to it.
DeleteI loved the conversation between the dog and duck. He is am old misery guts!
DeleteJust had to stop by and say how much I like the photographs.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: They are excellent photos aren't they? Have a wonderful week.
DeleteBlack and white photos are so very classic. True friends, the dog and duck, how beautiful that animals can behave better than humans!
ReplyDeletekestrel: Animals often behave better than humans - with much less prejudice as well.
DeleteTotally agree
ReplyDeleteSweet shots.
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: Bill takes wonderful photos doesn't he?
DeleteThanks for sharing this interesting post.
ReplyDeleteNew Release Books: I am glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteLove that second photo!
ReplyDeleteNatalia: That photo spoke to a lot of us didn't it?
DeleteI love these photos...they are so mysterious and evocative!
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish I had time to just relax and let my imaginative juices flow 🙄
Soon...I hope!!
Thank you so much for another really impressive post!😊😊
Lots of love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ygraine: I really, really hope that time is more on your side soon. I am so often awed and delighted by your poetry.
DeleteStay safe dear friend.
Those are both great photos to inspire writing. The first one took me back to childhood as there was a big factory in our neighborhood that always had broken windows in it. Probably due to the errant stones of teenagers walking by from the area high school, I suppose. I never understood why people thought it was okay to vandalize someone else's property, not even when I was very young.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: Sadly vandalism is everywhere. A cross cultural habit which I would love to see eliminated. Bill takes amazing photos doesn't he?
DeleteI was wondering what you made of the duck and the dog? Bill is a great photographer
DeleteI love your 2nd photo ❤
ReplyDeleteKinga K.: It is not my photo, but I love it too.
DeleteDear EC, the second photograph reminded me of what's happening here in the United with regard to the presidential election. Some of us are holding are head high--like the duck. We seem to have an air of superiority. Perhaps of vindication. The dog would be the Republicans who grieve the results of the election. For myself, I want to find a way to get the duck quacking and the dog barking in chorus, finding the middle C that connects them. We are so in the grip of partisanship and I am a part of it. All of us need to look within ourselves for the quacking or the barking we can do in chorus. Peace.
ReplyDeleteDee: How I wish that there was a LOT more harmonising. The world over. I can totally see your take on Bill's photo and I grieve for your country (and see similarities in my own).
DeleteI live in a very red, rural area. Today I saw that one of the people who had been flying several tRump flags was flying the U.S. flag upside down and I found myself quite appalled. Much though I loathe tRump and refused to ever refer to him as president I never once considered flying the flag upside down because of my dislike for that dreadful man. Although it's a peaceful form of protest, there's something that doesn't sit right with me about it.
DeleteI can see where you are coming from when you look at the duck and the dog. Yes we ALL NEEED to get along more otherwise we are totally going to destroy mankind. Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.
DeleteWell said. We need to meet in the middle.
DeleteI'm two days late and two dollars short. Not linking mine because you'll see it anyway. Great pictures!
ReplyDeleteOrnery Owl of Netherworld Press and Readers Roost: I will certainly see your post (when my reading list decides to update it) but I wish that you did link for others.
DeleteWhat a shame you are not publishing it here on EC's site. Please reconsider as I would like to read it. I would like to know what your thoughts are on the photos. Stay safe and have a wonderful weekend.
DeleteExcellent read everyone! Love the photos! Big Hugs EC!
