Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.
Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
I usually run with a theme. Last week I said we had been down the lake for a much needed kangaroo fix (and I need another) so that is where I am starting.
He is a big and muscle bound boy isn't he?
It was a hot day and at first glance there were no roos to be seen. A second look found them reclining at their ease in the green undergrowth.
There is not a lot blooming in our garden at the moment - it seems to be in a hiatus between the seasons. Just the same it is a green and peaceful haven.
The poppies are nearly done, but I am watching those seed pods and will harvest them when they are ripe.
I am very excited to see tomatoes on several of our tomato plants. They taste soooo much better than the store bought varieties.
And now to the apologies. I am tired, overwrought and in pain. The holiday season is not improving my mood. If I am less diligent than usual in visiting your blogs or less enthusiastic please accept my apologies. Totally truthfully - it is not you, but me.
I hope you all find peaceful havens this week.
I hope you will do what is needed to care for yourself and feel better. I am sorry you are in pain. Many hugs and thanks for the Roo fix.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you. Some pain is a given, but it is grinding me down at the moment. This too will pass.
DeleteTake good care and be kind to yourself, Sue. My good thoughts are with you.
ReplyDeleteSean Jeating: Thank you.
DeletePains come with the territory. Better to have a little pain and be above ground than the alternative.
ReplyDeleteHow close can you get to wild kangaroos to take pictures?
Mike: You are probably right but at the moment the benefits of being above ground are a bit moot.
DeleteThese kangaroos are moderately happy to have people within six feet of so of them. They knew we were there but didn't bother to get up.
I'm sorry to learn of you're not in the "best of places" at present, EC. Try to take it easy as much as you are able..try to keep cool. There are enough pressures around at present without the Festive Season adding to them...they're coming from every angle.
ReplyDeleteI hope you're feeling much better as each day progresses during the coming week. For now, the temps have dropped considerable here (thank goodness) because we've been receiving some wonderful, welcome very heavy rain.
Please take good care...cuddles to Jazz :)
Lee: Our temperatures have been all over the shop which doesn't help.
DeleteI hope that we get some rain - it is forecast here for later in the week but not at the deluge level that northern NSW and your state are receiving.
Hola Hijo de Elefante!!!
ReplyDeleteque bonitas fotografias!
eli mendez: Many thanks - and yes, you are right nature is very, very important to me.
DeleteDear EC, I am sorry to hear you are not well. I do hope that the coming days bring an improvement, and that it is not too hot in Canberra.
ReplyDeletePerhaps another visit to the roos will help? They look so calm and peaceful in their leafy surroundings. As our Jacinda would say: be kind to others, and to yourself.
Alexia: Last week was tooo busy for a kangaroo fix but I will ensure one is on the agenda this week. Your Jacinda is a wise woman, and thank you too.
Delete(((Hugs)))
ReplyDeleteTake time for all things EC - take time now.....for you
Cathy: I am taking time (but feeling a little guilty about it too).
DeleteKangaroos through till Lilies, beautiful. I am sorry to hear that you are feeling well, I do hope that you will get better EC.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: The roos were lovely weren't they? and thank you.
DeleteI think muscle boy must be on the old side by the look of him. The roos look funny sitting in the green foliage but it must be much cooler for them.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Much, much cooler and by this time most years lush greenery is a thing of the past.
DeleteOh EC. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI love kangaroos!
Marie Smith: We love our roos too - and I am taking care. Thank you.
DeleteHi Sue. Take a rest. No one expects you to visit blogs when you're struggling. Thanks for sharing the kanga pics. And I'm with you re home-grown tomatoes. So much better than those pathetic yellowish store bought ones. Hope the poppies strike well.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a relaxing holiday season. Put your feet up even though I'm sure it's a busy time at LL.
Thanks for your super dooper support in 2020. I pray things will go better for all of us in 2021.
Peace and Love.
Denise
Denise Covey: You are right. It is a very, very busy time at LL - and a reminder that I have not a lot to complain about.
DeleteThank you and all the WEP team for another inspiring (albeit difficult) year.
Your pictures are a joy.
ReplyDeleteYou have amnesty from reading or commenting on my blog, please take care of yourself.
My selections are over here.
Deletemessymimi: I will get (I hope) to most blogs, but more slowly. Thank you - and I am looking forward t your selections.
DeleteYour picture s are so nice , I love the kangaroos ! I have to go to à zoo to see one !They look so funky hopping round ! Take care hope you William feel better si on !
ReplyDeleteGattina; Kangaroos relax superbly, and these ones were not going anywhere that day. And many thanks to you too.
DeleteI'm sorry that you are in pain and not feeling in a festive mood. I can understand that it's not easy to be all cheery when in pain. I hope that you feel well and pain free very soon.
ReplyDeleteYour lush green photos are sure a sight for sore eyes. Here, everything is grey and gloomy. No green leaves left and the trees are totally bear, not even snow on the grown to lighten things up. The only good news is that our city got up grades from Orange code to the Yellow code for covid-19 so we are allowed to visit family without being arrested.
Seeing the roos is also a nice treat. Thanks...
Get well soon.
Hugs, Julia
Julia: I am sure that being able to visit family again is a HUGE treat. Long may it last.
DeleteI often need a roo fix - and they are a treat for me too.
I love looking at your kangaroos, always. I am sorry to hear you are hurting. I know what that's like and have been nursing a sore hip for almost a week now. Sometimes I even have to take pain meds, but I try really hard not to. Sending you lots of good juju. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: Pain is a sucky beast isn't it. It is the fatigue which is grinding me down most I think. This too will pass - and good juju helps.
DeleteA green and peaceful haven indeed. With baby tomatoes.
ReplyDeleteYou take care and feel better, please.
Joanne Noragon: Thank you. I rely on that haven - and hope the tomatoes grow and ripen.
DeleteI suspected as much, the increasing heat does you no favours. If only you could set up camp inside an industrial sized cool room.
ReplyDeleteHow lush is that undergrowth! I almost didn't see the roos in the first photo. I love your garden, as always and am jealous of your tomatoes. I will plant new seed in place of the saved seed, which isn't going well, and just cross my fingers. I may have Easter tomatoes instead of Christmas ones. I love your brick path to your door.
River: Thank you. The heat does me no favours and neither does the very changeable weather we are having at the moment. An industrial cool room sounds GOOD.
DeleteI hope that the tomatoes thrive - I adore them.
It is very pleasant to come here and see all that greenery.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you are not feeling well... :(
I hope and pray you will feel better and more like your usual self soon.
Hugs and more hugs
: )
Caterina: Thank you. I am really enjoying the greenery. Usually by this time of year it is gone, but we had a much wetter spring than usual.
DeleteJealous, I am. Yesterday I ripped out the sad, withering tomato plant.Despite cats' vigilance and my occasional bad language, the grasshoppers won.(I do still have an adventitious tomato, hiding itself behind a huge cactus, but I can't see it feeding us!)
ReplyDeleteRest if you can.
dinahmow: It is caterpillars which are wreaking havoc in the vegie garden here. They are ignoring the tomatoes but the beans, the chili and the capsicum are getting a hiding. So are the herbs. I am resting. Hopefully energy will return.
DeleteI'm sorry you feel down. Being sick is no fun. I hope you'll feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kangaroos. Your blog is the only place where I see them regularly. I'm not even sure if I've ever seen one in a zoo. I don't remember.
Olga Godim: Thank you. I see roos on some other Australian blogs but they don't seem to need a 'roo fix' as often as I do.
DeleteGosh do hope you feel improved soon..pain gets you down as you know, so all the best.
ReplyDeleteLovely selection and I do like the kangaroos and he is a big one that male.
Take care.
Margaret D: Thank you. I live with some pain always but ramped up and teamed with fatigue it IS getting me down.
DeleteYou take care too please.
You are an important part of my blogging life--- Take care of yourself, and take comfort in the soft eyes of your friends in the trees.
ReplyDeleteBill: Thank you. I am endlessly grateful for the friends I have found/made here in the blogosphere. A kangaroo fix is a wonderful mood lifter. Always.
DeleteTake a brief break perhaps, Sue. Looks like your garden is a great haven to relax, unwind and get soothed by nature. I will be sure to instruct the parrots and cockatoos that they must come and visit you to bring good cheer and distraction. I will be thinking of you. Love, David
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: My garden is a haven. A haven which demands rather a lot of work (which it isn't getting enough of for the moment). The birds have listened to you - for which I thank you and them.
DeleteWah bagus banget artikelnya, jadi tambah pengetahuan buat aku hehe
ReplyDeleteMayuf: Thank you.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear all is not well with your health. I hope you will feel better soon.
The roos are fabulous - so photogenic, as is your garden - a very peaceful place.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. Roos relax better than almost anything I know - except cats. I think their calm is one of the reasons I find them so soothing.
DeleteWonder what you do with the poppy seed pods as we do not have such flowers here? Your tomatoes are growing nice and big too. I tried growing them here but they were pathetic, tiny and never turned red. The roos did good posing for you!
ReplyDeletekestrel: I save the poppy seeds to broadcast them across the garden next year. I turn over the bed that they are in each year and worry that the seeds will be buried too deep to grow if I don't. I am also trying to establish them in other beds. The roos are great posers aren't they?
DeleteSuch great kangaroo pictures, and I like to see them relaxing. YOU, take care of yourself and I hope you are pain-free very soon, and feeling much better. Sending some air hugs from across the pond. RO
ReplyDeleteRO: Huge thanks. I hope you are well - and are preparing another eclectic post for us.
DeleteYour garden is always beautiful no matter what season it is. I hope you get to feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself and get some rest. Have a great week my friend.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: The garden is (like me) a work in progress. I am trying to take care of myself and thank you. Have a most excellent week.
DeletePain just makes you so tired. It's fine to read and not ceomment on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThank you for cangaroos and flowers. Now it's 3 o'clock my place and the sun is almost setting, it's wet, murky and dreary. It's soo good to see sunshine and warmth from somewhere else.
Do you eat the poppy seds or do you colledct them only to sow?
Charlotte (MotherOwl): I collect the seeds to sow them. I have never seen this double poppy anywhere else and would be reluctant to lose it. And yes, pain is tiring. For mind and body.
DeleteI hope your dreary weather lifts - it is also tiring on the mind.
We had the very same double poppy "invading" our garden one year. I propagated it ... spreading the seeds ... and now we have so many that I sow, and eat the seeds on my buns and bread. As far as I know, they're illegal - some drug law - but I don't mind. They are pretty and taste good. Thank you for your well wishes. May your pains soon lessen.
DeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): This is an invader I will not fight against. We don't (yet) have enough for me to eat the seeds. Later perhaps.
DeleteBeautiful garden and the animals look amazing too, do have a great week ahead and wonderful holidays and Christmas.
ReplyDeleteSteve: Many thanks.
Delete"I hope you all find peaceful havens this week."
ReplyDeleteWe just did - in your garden and among the kangaroos.
Thank you for sharing, E.C.
Now, step away from the computer and all media for awhile. Stand in your garden. Reflect on how much we all have to be thankful for. Take something for your pain. Close your eyes.
We'll be here when you're ready to return.
Wally Jones: Thank you - and for sharing some of your havens. Havens which fill me with awe, wonder and joy.
DeleteLove the kangaroos and all the lovely garden pics. Hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteGranny Annie: Thank you. Enjoy as much time as you can with your Grands.
DeleteSorry to hear how you're feeling EC. It's late, but things are challenging here at the moment too, and I decided I needed to visit you before trying to sleep; I needed a dose of hidden kangaroos and garden flowers. Take care out there EC
ReplyDeleteKim: I hope that your challenges (and mine) diminish. I hope that all of the world's myriad of challenges shrink away. You take care too please. And thank you for thinking of this space as somewhere to visit for comfort.
DeleteHi EC - look after you ... we'll be here ... but am so glad you were able to see the roos - and yes that chap is a strong oke!!! Amazing roo ... lovely quiet-looking garden ... take care and all the best for feeling easier - with some gentle hugs - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Your hugs are gratefully received and reciprocated.
DeleteI really like the photos of kangaroos, as I have never seen one in person. Very interesting animal. I love your garden, so pretty. Please take care of yourself. I hope your condition improves.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: Kangaroos are fascinating critters and I am very glad that we have some so close to home. I hope you and David have a wonderful week.
Deletepoppy seed pods how wonderful, and the roo is so large, love your guided tour through your garden, hope you are doing better
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: That poppy is a beauty. There are a lot of pods so I am hoping for a bumper crop next year as well.
DeleteOld Man Roo is impressive isn't he? I really wouldn't mess with him.
Love the Roos. Your garden is lovely even when it's sleeping. I haven't been participating much in the blogging world. I do hope to return but for now other things have priority. I'm sorry that your health is slowing you down but hope you prioritize it. I doubt anyone will mind your abscence on their blogs. Your reasons are more than valid. I join many others in wishing you well. Take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteMyrna R.: I hope your priorities are all positive. And thank you.
DeleteOh those sweet roo faces. I send you love and healing thoughts.
ReplyDeleteJ C: Don't they have wonderful faces? Thank you.
DeleteFirst of all, take good care of yourself. I know the hot weather isn't kind to you - which might be for the best, as you won't be as tempted to cause yourself more pain by tending garden!
ReplyDeleteAlways love the roos. Muscle Boy looks like he's asking if you want a piece of him in a dare.
I hope the vandals leave your tomatoes alone! Yes, homegrown tastes sooo much better than from the store. In fact, I've given up on tomatoes completely in the last few years. Nothing like biting into waxy-tasting red balls to turn me away from them. Same with peaches.
Your garden is a restful haven no matter what's blooming or not. Simply beautiful as always.
Dragon hugs to you!
River Fairchild: I KNOW I need to take care of myself, but struggle. It feels selfish and self indulgent. Which is part of the reason I am struggling now. You are right about tomatoes and peaches. I bit into a home grown strawberry a few days ago and was reminded why they are a much loved fruit. Commercial fruit and vegies are another area where progress isn't.
DeleteAnd thank you for your support. I really appreciate it - and you.
Take care of yourself -- that's job one! ❤️We'll be here rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteLove seeing all the roos! Mr. Muscles is something else. Wishing the critters leave your tomatoes alone. Not much better during the summer than a home-grown tomato sandwich on white bread with mayo and a little sea salt.
-Marty K
musicalsciencedoggies: Since moving back to Canberra roo fixes have been a regular treat. Mr Muscles is impressive - and his harem melts my heart. I will pass on the white bread (unless it is sough dough) but a tomato sandwich is a joy. And for quite a number of years as a child my breakfast was mayo (home made) on toast.

ReplyDeleteEach photo of the kangaroo in light and shadow amongst the foliage is delightful! They have such a curious look and I wish I could speak kangaroo ;) There is a lot in your garden to photograph, very, very pretty! . So sorry you are in pain and I do hope you feel better by now. Not to worry about visiting or commenting on my blog. Hard to do at such times. Wishing you a pain-free week and hope it is a good one in many ways.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: I would really, really like to be able to talk to a lot of animals - the roos included. And thank you.
DeleteWhat wondrous pics of the kangs and your gorgeous garden.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear you aren't feeling up to par.
Thinking of you and sending you loads of positive energy.
Hugs
Sandra Cox: Positive energy would be very, very welcome. Thank you.
DeleteSo you just bag and save those seed heads when they're ready to harvest, for next spring? Just wondering. I've saved sunflower and tomato seeds and then planted them the next spring with good luck. I've not saved flower seeds outside of sunflowers before however.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: Exactly. I mostly let plants spread their seeds for themselves but I want these poppies to invade/infiltrate other garden beds.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear of your struggles. Pain beats me down, esp. today. Rest and enjoy your garden. What a garden!
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: I live with some pain virtually always but it has ramped up and teemed with nausea and fatigue is grinding me down. This too will pass.
DeleteI'm sorry that you're feeling unwell, EC. Sending you lots of healing energy across the oceans. I hope you're able to tune out the pressures of the festive season and take care of yourself.
ReplyDeletePoppy seeds are a staple condiment in Indian Bengali cuisine. Added to veggies like gourds, potatoes, zucchini type stuff. Delish! :) But can't have it here because of drug laws.
Nilanjana Bose: I would be very, very surprised to learn that this is an opium poppy but suspect that it may well be illegal here too - which would explain why I have never seen it in stores. I don't have enough seeds to eat them yet - perhaps next season.
DeleteAnd thank you. I think this is just MS, heat and drug interactions conspiring against me. I will pull up my big girl pants shortly.
Lovely roos and garden scenes. The pink calla lilies (at least that is what they look like) are especially lovely.
ReplyDeleteTake good care and feel better as soon as you are able. x
Bea: They are indeed pink calla lilies - and are flowering more prolifically than ever before. The white ones have been and gone, and the orange and yellow ones are not in bloom. I hope they will soon.
DeleteI do hope to feel better, but will probably have some level of discomfort until summer ends.
I always enjoy your kangaroos photos, so cute!
ReplyDeleteNatalia: We love our roos too. I am glad you enjoy them as well.
DeleteIt's a weird season indeed EC. I hope your find some measure of comfort in your hiatus. Pain just takes over the psyche and the spirit and wrings us out.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile the roos are lovely. An extraordinary evolution of an animal. The pouch has always fascinated me. I do wonder why us females don't have them as well.
XO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: Having seen just how long some of the joeys continue to return to the pouch (and wincing for their poor mamas) I am glad that we don't have pouches. I have named those late leavers pouch potatoes and while they might be comfortable their mothers bear the pain. Literally.
DeleteThe first pic of the kangs would make a fun 'find the kangaroos' for kids.
ReplyDeleteThat pink poppy takes my breath away. So pretty.
Hoping today is a good day for you, my friend.
Sandra Cox: Thank you. That poppy 'invited itself' into the garden a few years ago and I encourage its return every year.
DeleteThe roos WERE hard to see - we played 'find the kangaroo' as we stood and watched.
Hugs to you.
What handsome wilflife you have! I love how the one is like, "What's a camera?"
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: Lots of our native wildlife is on the weird side. I like it. Which might say something about me.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that you are in pain. I hope you feel better soon.. or at least something to ease your pain.
ReplyDeleteLove all the kangaroo pictures.
Hena Tayeb: Thank you. If we get a fine patch over the next few days we are going back down to the lake for another kangaroo fix. Photos will undoubtedly be taken.
DeleteI am sorry to hear you are in pain EC. My sister Caroline has MS too and gets tired often, she loves eating raw brocolli, its nutritional and I swear has de-aging properties. I'm trying it too. I love the roos and remember watching Skippy all the time when I was young. Merry Chistmas and stay well!
ReplyDeleteSpacer Guy: I like most raw vegies (and will only eat some raw). I am sorry that your sister also has the dread disease. The fatigue is something I find particularly difficult. Thank you so much for your wishes - which I hope come true for you and your family as well.
DeleteI am sorry you are in pain. I hope that you feel better soon. I loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. How are you and your daughter doing? Sending hugs.
Deleteso beautiful photos!
ReplyDeleteantonio: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteDear Sue, I understand your fatigue as it is something that is taking over so many of us. No apologies needed. You are a person that so many of us have come to think of as a friend. We care about you very much. Take care of yourself and be well.
ReplyDeleteI love where you live. The greenery, the flowers, the birds and the Roos are magnificent and you show us so many beautiful things that are part of your life. We are thankful for you, dear Sue.
Starting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: Dear Arleen, thank you so much. I am endlessly grateful for the very dear friends (you included) I have found in the blogosphere.
DeleteThe tomatoes are very cute
ReplyDeletexx
Sakuranko: They are growing (in size and number) ever day. I do hope they will be delicious.
DeleteYour photos are lovely, as always! I'm so sorry to hear you're struggling, though. No apologies necessary - you spend so much time brightening everyone else's days, maybe it's time to be kind to yourself for a while. Let go of the 'shoulds' and take the time you need to do things that recharge your batteries and bring you joy. Wishing you peace of mind, physical comfort, and restorative sleep...
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: I am learning to let go of the shoulds and would like to let go of the guilt which goes with the process. If I knew where my guilt button was I would disconnect it. Permanently.
DeleteIf only we could.
DeleteDiane Henders: I wish. How I wish.
DeleteMe encantan estos animales, que aquí solo se puede ver en los zoológicos.
ReplyDeleteLas plantas y sobretodo las flores da alegría al ambiente.
Espero que se mejore tu salud.
VENTANA DE FOTO: Thank you. We love the roos too and are very glad to have them living so close to us. Living wild and free so close to us.
DeleteFantastic roo shots! As always, your garden is great, you must have a green thumb!
ReplyDeleteKaren: Thank you. Believe me there are some plants for which my thumb is decidedly black. Plants which I love but which I no longer attempt to grow.
DeleteI am so sorry you are in pain my friend! Sending you healing hugs!!
ReplyDeleteI truly enjoyed all your pictures! Thanks for making me smile! Love you! Big Hugs!
Magic Love Crow: This too will pass. There are a lot of people in pain (you included), and many of their pain is much more significant than mine.
DeleteHuge hugs to you.
We feel your love all the time. Take time off from visiting blogs. No one will be hurt.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie Junebug. Thank you. I am humbled and endlessly grateful for the support I have found in the blogosphere.
DeleteI am sorry to hear that you are having a hard time, truly sorry, not that it helps. The only thing I can suggest is that you prioritise yourself (unless prioritising others helps, which it sometimes can). Life can be a struggle, but at other times less so.
ReplyDeleteAndrew R. Scott: Thank you. This too will pass. I hope that you and your wife are kicking the corona virus to the curb - quickly. And completely
DeleteWonderful roo shots! Please rest, relax and find peace.
ReplyDeleteLady Fi: Thank you. I had another 'roo fix' yesterday which eased my mind considerably.
Delete"If I am less diligent than usual in visiting your blogs or less enthusiastic please accept my apologies. Totally truthfully - it is not you, but me."
ReplyDeleteI have been visiting few blogs of late, but am trying to get caught up with them now. Part of the reason I'm behind is that I find that I'm slowed by the fact that I am having difficulty writing posts. For instance, I spent 20-30 hours on the post that you just commented on (thank you), yet it is awfully short. I always took my ability to write well for granted, yet I'm now finding it hard to write at all.
When you refer to the season as a reason for not visiting blogs as much of late, do you mean that the season is taking a lot of your time or rather that it bogs you down emotionally?
Snowbrush: MS loves the summer. I struggle in it. I also struggle with the Christmas season on a number of fronts. So, essentially the season is taking its toll physically AND emotionally.
DeleteSo lovely photos, I love them. The roo is so cute.
ReplyDeleteKeep well and hugs.
orvokki: Thank you. We love the roos too. You stay safe as well please.
Delete
