Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week I am returning to yet another of my obsessions. Most of you know I am an early riser. I see most dawns all year round. And delight in them. Our dawns are often soft and gentle but in the last week or so we have had some vivid starts to the day. Himself enjoys my photos when he gets up, but not enough to even contemplate getting up to share the beauty. His loss.
I loved seeing the start of a jet trail in this last photo.
I hope your week is packed with beauty and delight too.
Fascinating sunrises! (I am not a morning person, so I miss their beauty ).
ReplyDeleteDUTA: My partner is with you. I love the quiet and the beauty of dawn.
DeleteRiver Fairchild - Night owl here so I always enjoy your sunrises. Your photos also invoke a sense of peace. I think it’s the stillness and quiet that you definitely capture along with the beauty.
ReplyDeleteHave a restful week, my awesome friend, and say hello to the kitties for me.
River Fairchild: You are so right about the peace. It is part of the reason I revel in the predawn and dawn hours. There are often a few tradespeople heading off to work when I am taking my photos - no doubt scratched their heads at the mad woman with her camera, but otherwise it is blissfully quiet.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteYou have captured some beautiful colours in those sunrises. I am not often up to greet the sunrises, but when I do, I marvel at them.
Thank you. I hope you find more beauty in nature this week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: Thank you. You find beauty in your garden - as I know you will. And some work.
DeleteLovely photos! We're surrounded by trees and mountains, so we usually can't see sunrise or sunset unless there are clouds positioned exactly right to reflect the light. It made me smile to see all the beautiful misty pinks in your pictures. :-)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: We are lucky and can see both sunrise and sunset. And I revel in them both.
DeleteI sometimes see a sunrise right before I go to bed.
ReplyDeleteMike: My partner is one of your mob.
DeleteThank you for sharing a beautiful start to your day!
ReplyDeleteThere is simply no way to describe the subtle changes of color to a dawn sky.
Gini and I hope your weekend is going well.
Wally Jones: Dawn skies are special aren't they? I have had a productive weekend working in the garden. I hope you and Gini have been reveling in nature - and feel sure you have.
DeleteIt’s rarely that I am not up to greet the day, Sue. It’s a bit of a cliché, I think, but nonetheless true, that it’s the very best time of day.
ReplyDeleteDavid Gascoigne: I am with you. It is quiet and often very, very beautiful.
DeleteTruly sunset reveries
ReplyDeleteroentare: Sunrise rather than sunset - but yes.
DeleteWe are the opposite with dawn. He always sees it, me never! Then again, I see sunsets! Take care, EC.
ReplyDeleteMarie Smith: Himself and I often live in different time zones. Like you, I also enjoy sunsets.
DeleteI like the way the sun rise keeps coming on.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: Me too.
DeleteIt looks so... orange. Is that because of fires or just the natural color? I always look forward to hearing from you in my Saturday, your Sunday. Sending you lots of virtual hugs.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Natural colour. We have no nearby fires at the moment, and I hope we don't. Enjoy your Saturday dear friend.
DeleteThe sun is rising tomorrow (Sunday) at 5.51. I would love to see it rising over Lake Ontario. I would have to get up at 5 am the latest. I will look at your pics for now and enjoy that beautiful sky...
ReplyDeleteCaterina: I am almost always up well before five. It is winter here so our sunrises are later at the moment, but I see them (with gratitude) all year round.
DeleteLove all the photos of your sunrises. I am more of a sunset person as I have photographed so many over the years. Life is so much better for an early riser. I love the peace of it.
ReplyDeleteXO
WWW
Wisewebwoman: I love both sunrise and sunset and have photo after photo after photo of them. I agree with you about the peace of the early morning though. I can (and do) stand in the middle of the road to take photos.
DeleteYour sunrise shots are astounding, Sue. It's amazing how you are able to show the morning sky as it wakes. What beauty you see through your camera lens. So glad you have chosen to share these gorgeous photos with us.
ReplyDeleteHope you and the fur babies (especially Batty) are doing well this week, dear.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: Thank you. I usually see the sunrise as I take the kitty litter out. It is a wonderful reward for getting that necessary job done. Batty and Odie thank you. Batty is currently soaking up the sun in the kitchen and Odie is in himself's lap - making it difficult for him to read the paper.
DeleteRed skies in the morning....as the saying goes.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a white jet trail. It never occured to me that they could be lit by the colours of dawn.
Andrew: The early morning skies were certainly red, but neither shepherds or sailors had anything to worry about. Jet trails lit by the sun are lovely aren't they?
DeleteI haven't seen a dawn in so long, these colder days I tend to stay in bed longer anyway, but even in summer I rarely see the pinking and brightening of the sky, by the time I finish breakfast and get to the watering the sun is already bouncing above the hills area.
ReplyDeleteRiver: There is no virtue in it, I simply wake early. It is a lovely sight to see though.
DeleteThese a beautiful EC, it's through your eyes and camera that I get to see such beauty as I'm not an early rises.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Margaret D: Aren't they lovely. I delight in the early morning and am more than happy to share its beauty.
DeleteGorgeous photos, as always a pleasure to view. Lovely details here x
ReplyDeleteaussie aNNie: Thank you. They were lovely mornings.
DeleteMost of my 50+ years as a broadcaster saw me getting up early. I agree that there is something special about mornings. But I've seen enough of them in person. I much prefer seeing your excellent images around 10am!
ReplyDeleteBill: I became an early morning person late in life, and am grateful. It is a beautiful time of day and I am happy to share that beauty with people who can sleep through it. I no longer can.
DeleteHi EC - stunning early morning skies ... it can be chilly though! I hope there's a hot mug of something to hand. That contrail has picked up the extra colour. Cheers - always lovely to see these images though - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: The jet trail was a delighful bonus wasn't it? It was cool - but as you know that suits me.
DeleteI agree, I love a good sunrise. Those are great pictures.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: Thank you. It is a time like no other isn't it?
DeleteFab dawn pictures. I have a collection of Manchester dawns and others as I have travelled. My background on my laptop is the sun rising over Port Douglas Australia. I was jet-lagged and wide awake at 4am and decided to grab the opportunity while I could and got some amazing shots of the sun rising over the ocean.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: That would be incredible. Sunrise or sunset over water is always a joy.
DeleteThose were some brilliant oranges.
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: They were. This morning's dawn was softer - but still lovely.
DeleteYour photos are beautiful as usual.
ReplyDeleteI think dawns are gorgeous, and I surely I appreciate them each time is see one, which is not terribly often.
anne in the kitchen: I really like dawn. It is one of the benefits of my erratic sleep patterns.
DeleteLovely photos. I enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. I hope you have a great new week,
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: I enjoy them both too, but the peace of the early morning speaks loudest to me.
DeleteBeautiful red morniings, turning to pink and lighter as day begins. The bright jet trail is stunning. Sometimes when I'm driving, straight roads, early evening or morning, I feel like I can see the curve of the earth, which is impossible of course, but the jet trail curvatures, with distance, aid that conception.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I know exactly what you mean. And have had similar thoughts.
DeleteWhat a nice way to start the day! Well worth getting up early.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: It is. And since I am already up...
DeleteSo beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: So very beautiful.
DeleteYep his loss indeed and a win for us to see all of these, and especially the jet trail! Such a lovely view you captured, and while we can't be there to feel the movement, we can imagine it! Peaceful delight.
ReplyDelete21 Wits: Peaceful delight indeed. I am so very grateful to have such a gorgeous view of sunrise - and looking in the opposite direction of sunset too.
DeleteProbably its best if himself sleeps so you can enjoy this beauty alone. It may not speak to your soul so gently and beautifully if you have to share it. xo
ReplyDeleteJ C: You are right of course. I value my time to myself in the morning as he does his at the other end of the day. And the serenity of dawn is a lovely way to ease into the day.
DeleteThe ski in the morning is very beautiful. Just when the sun is coming up. Very good photographs of that moments.
ReplyDeleteJ.S. Vila: Thank you. It really is a lovely part of my day.
DeleteI don't purposely rise early to see the sun rise...these days I'm burying myself under the covers with little energy or eagerness to see another day. I'm with "Him"...relying on you, EC...to relay the delights we're missing out on. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good week ahead...cuddles to Batty and Odie. I hope they're doing okay. Take care.
Lee: I do understand why you are burying yourself, and some days wish I could. Just the same I do find delight in each and every dawn.
DeleteGorgeous! I'm rarely up early enough to see the sunrise. So thank you for showing me this lovely time of the day. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: Thank you. I am very happy to share the beauty of first light.
DeleteI adore this series of photographs dear! Yes, morning is our special time.
ReplyDeleteCloudia: Thank you. Morning is indeed special. It was/is a foggy start to the day here - which has a beauty all of its own.
DeleteSuch beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteAuthors with Advice: Thank you. It is my pleasure to share.
DeleteStunning sunrises. This time a year I seldom see a sunrise, even if it is now they are best. So happy to see yours.
ReplyDeleteCharlotte (MotherOwl): I am not sure when our sunrises are best, and am thankful I see them all year round. I am glad you enjoyed this selection.
DeleteSunrise is my favorite time of day. Yours are gorgeous.
ReplyDeletee: It is one of my favourite times of day. I revel in the quiet and the beauty. Hugs to you and Lukas.
DeleteBeautiful Sunrises captured. We get magnificent Sunrises and Sunsets here in the Desert. Now that I'm waking earlier to get Kiddos to Work, I get to experience them... like Himself, I wasn't much of a Morning Person before that, but, I'm enjoying the Quiet and Beauty of Earlier Mornings. So much more Time to get things done too, especially when it's so Hot.
ReplyDeleteBohemian: Thank you. The quiet and the beauty of the early morning are precious aren't they? In your current temperatures they are the ONLY time to get things done. Stay as cool as you can.
DeleteWhat spectacular shades of red/orange/yellow, purple too. Thank you, EC. Be good to yourself.
ReplyDeleteRawknrobyn: They were spectacular weren't they? You be good to yourself too.
DeleteI love the dawn but only if I happen to be already up and about :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!
kylie: I am up and about, and delight in the early bonus.
DeleteThose photos guarantee beauty and delight. Thanks for sharing:) Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: It is a lovely way to start the day isn't it?
DeleteBeautiful skies at dawn, such peace and tranquility. Thank you Sue!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. That is exactly what I think.
DeleteJust gorgeous! I see sunrises on occasion, but am more likely to see sunsets when the days are long and the sun comes up so early. This time of year in Montana we enjoy some beautiful ones, perhaps the only positive to smokey skies.
ReplyDeleteSusan: I well remember watching the sky through smoky air. It is dramatic but a scene I will happily (touch wood) never see again.
Deletethecontemplativecat here. Dusk skies are so beautiful. Every year in California when the fires are ranging, the skies are beautiful. Sadly scarily beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: Dawn rather than dusk, but yes beautiful. Sadly I am all too familiar with the scarily beautiful smoke filled skies.
DeleteGorgeous photos. Love them!
ReplyDeleteNasreen: Thank you. I have just been photographing yet more dawn beauty.
DeleteThe jet trail is fun:) Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I was pleased to see it. Later the pink arc spread further into the sky.
DeleteI have often thought that the winter dawns are so much more brilliant than the summer dawns as are the sunsets. I love early mornings with all the possibilities that the day holds.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Our summer sunsets are usually the most vivid. I am not sure about dawn and will remind myself to look when summer comes around again. I agree with you about the early morning. I hope you can stay cool and comfortable.
DeleteI'm not usually an early riser and tend to see more sunsets than sunrises.
ReplyDeleteI am always pleased to see your beautiful sunrises, your photographs show some wonderful early morning colour.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: Thank you. I am lucky and usually see both sunrise and sunset.
DeleteHope you had a wonderful day and another glorious sunrise.
ReplyDeleteSandra sandracox.blogspot.com
Sandra Cox: Thank you. This mornings sunrise was lovely - and I took more photos too.
DeleteBeautiful! (https://tentativelytasmanian.blog/)
ReplyDeleteMedicated Moo: Wasn't it?
DeleteI love sunrises but seldom see them. I stay up late but sleep late to get all my hours in. Beautiful photos. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: You and himself are very similar. I see most dawns but there is no virtue in it, I am just an early riser.
DeleteThese are lovely! Almost like vivid sunsets. My favorites are the last four, but they all are just beautiful.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth Varadan: Thank you. Our dawns are usually much softer in colour, but still delightful. I am always fascinated by just how fast the skyscapes change.
DeleteStunning skies - love the final one in particular. I rarely see the sun rise - unless I am late to bed. Yes, I know - tsk, tsk! I am trying to get better at going to bed earlier :)
ReplyDeletejenny_o: As you know I delight in skyscapes. Himself also is unlikey to see the sunrise unless he is still up.
