Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.
Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks),
and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I
usually run with a theme. Today I am going to show you different facets of last Sunday.
As is usual my day started early with a soft and gentle dawn.
When I finally came in I was greeted by this female King Parrot near the front door.
I came in because chilly weather is not kind to camera batteries and discovered I had been outside for an hour (and the temperatures were still firmly in the negative. I know, I am not entirely sane.
And at the other end of the day (which was a little warmer) the sunset was spectacular so I rushed out again.
Thank you for your good wishes for next week's doctor's appointment. I am really hoping for answers and a time frame for action.
Laura Eno - What a gorgeous sunset! Spectacular. And I’m so glad you got to make frozen bubbles. (Yes, you are a bit insane… but many of us are)
ReplyDeleteI envy your birds, so beautiful and abundant in your region. And big!
Crossing my fingers for positive answers and an action plan. Sending my love your way.
Laura Eno: Sanity is over rated isn't it? I do love our birds and I am pretty certain that they watch us with as much interest as we watch them. An action plan and a time frame will be very welcome. Fingers crossed.
DeleteIn this heat and humidity I would love some frosty bubbles on my shoulders, I hope you have a great new week and all is well. Best of luck with the doctor.
ReplyDeleteRasmaSandra: In the temperatures in which bubbles can be frozen you don't need them on your shoulders. And thank you.
DeleteOooooh more frozen bubbles. Very, very cool.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: Definitely cool.
DeleteEvery year I look forward to vicariously taking part in this festival of bubbles! Thank you, Sue. And I know you appreciate the cold weather.
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I do like the cold weather and bubbles are only part of the reason. We have been having some crisp, clear and beautiful mornings this week.
DeleteThat was a glorious sunset.
ReplyDeleteLove to see your bubbles. I haven't been able to make my own. Thinking of following this recipe this coming winter:
1 cup water, 2 tablespoons corn syrup, and 2 tablespoons dish soap. : )))
And I will need the right temperature, of course.
contempladoraocidental: I just use dishwashing liquid - neat. I wonder why they don't work for you - you would certainly get the temperatures for it.
DeleteThe sunset really was magnificent. Loved the bubbles and the parrot. That is cold. It's hot here.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: I have been watching your temperatures in horror. It is bright and sunny today and we are aiming for a top of 14C/57.2F
DeleteLove the sunset and bubbles!
ReplyDeletee: It was a lovely day from start to finish.
DeleteWhat a sunset, Sue!
ReplyDeleteMay healthwise the sun rise for you in July!
My good thoughts are with you.
Sean Jeating: Many, many thanks.
DeleteThese bubbles surely look amazing
ReplyDeleteroentare: They are. I am hoping (perhaps next month) for an even colder morning. In other winters I have had them last for several hours.
DeleteI am very pleased to see some excellent ice bubbles this year. It certainly was some sunset, so orange.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: The sunset was a bit of a shock after the very soft dawn. A welcome shock.
DeleteMy cousin in Mawson was telling me about the cold temperatures. But I don't think she has experimented with freezing bubbles like you have! I must remember to try this in six months time!
ReplyDeleteShammickite: I expect you will be able to romp in freezing bubbles.
DeleteYour bubbles are always fun. I keep forgetting about the difference in temperatures we have. Yikes to that cold weather! Glad you found something fun. And that was a great sunset indeed.
ReplyDeleteDJan: I like cold weather so I am quite happy - and the bubbles just add to the fun.
DeleteI find I prefer the more intense colouring of sunsets over the softer dawns as I get older, maybe it has something to do with the day being over and I can lock my doors and turn the TV on.
ReplyDeleteLove the king parrot, was she waiting for food?
The fourth bubble photo, the collapsed one reminds me of a jellyfish.
River: I can never decide whether I prefer dawn or dusk. I like them both. The king parrot had some apple but seemed to be interesting in just watching the mad woman with the camera.
DeleteThe shells when the bubbles burst fascinate me.
What a perfect winter day!
ReplyDeletemessymimi: It was.
DeleteI'm amazed by your glorious sunrise and sunset shots. I love the subtle pink of the sunrise and the blazing orange of the sunset. Two very different sky shots.
ReplyDeleteYour bubbles turned out great. I even enjoyed seeing how the collapsed.
What a beautiful King Parrot. So good to see them flying free in your country.
Hope the doctor appointment gives you some much needed answers.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth. Thank you - for everything.
DeleteIts all beautiful: the skies, the frost, the bubbles and the parrot.
ReplyDeleteI really am sending my best wishes for tomorrow.
kylie: Physio tomorrow, the double barrelled specialist on Tuesday - and thank you. Waiting has been tough.
DeleteHere in Bengaluru (south India) it doesn't get cold enough for snow. However, sometimes during rains we do get hailstones.
ReplyDeleteThe King Parrot does look colourful as well as majestic.
Sunday Selections is a good idea.
Pradeep / Time and Tide
Pradee[ Nair: Welcome and thank you. We very rarely get snow but we do get frost. Isn't the King Parrot lovely?
DeleteHi EC - I love that you went outside for over an hour to film bubbles for us/you ... thank you - just inspiring. The King Parrot is looking out for you ... while the sunset is glorious. As for next week - wishing you all the best, some easing outcomes and possibilities ... with thoughts - Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: I really didn't notice the time passing and if my camera had retained its charge I probably would have been out there longer. I am so grateful for the beauty I see - and thank you.
DeleteBeautiful colours of the sunset, and the first one the sunrise.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness that's cold in your morning time but your bubbles are good, I always enjoy them.
Margaret D: With luck it will get even colder next month.
DeleteThanks for the bubbles! And the sunset!
ReplyDeleteBill: It is my pleasure - though the King Parrots has the huffs at you for not commenting on her beauty.
DeleteNice shots! I've never experienced winter before, so I was really drawn to the ice bubbles outside!
ReplyDeletehttps://embracethepandemonium.wordpress.com/
Roxanne: Welcome and thank you. Never experienced winter? Wow.
DeleteA -7ºC?. Una mica boja si estas! ;-)))
ReplyDeleteTot i així, m'agrada veure les teves bombolles i sobretot aquesta posta de sol tan espectacular.
Els meus pensaments són amb tu.
Aferradetes ben fortes, Sue.
sa lluna: You are not alone in thinking I am a bit crazy - I enjoyed myself though.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteThank you for the frost bubbles. It's always such a joy to see them and I have huge respect that you are committed to creating them at silly o'clock and at -7! That fiery sunset sky is beautiful (as is the parrot). The frost photos were very cooling and I need that at the moment, as it is far too hot for me here (although nothing compared to what Europe is suffering and what you suffer in your summer).
Best of luck with the doctor's appointment.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: I hope your heat wave breaks soon. I MUCH prefer our current temperatures to those that much of the world is enduring at the moment. And thank you.
DeleteLove the frozen bubbles! That King Parrot must have been feeling the cold too. Your sunsets are really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: The King Parrots feathers were fluffed up. I have in the past seen them with frost on their wings - which must hurt. That was a special sunset - they are not usually so bright here.
DeleteYou took beautiful pics this time! Beautiful bird! i posted two pics, one of my cat being sassy and an old one of me and my mom and aunt since today is the anniversary of her passing. not sure if that counts.
ReplyDeleteDanielle: Thank you. I am heading over to see your photos shortly - and the old one of your mother and you certainly counts.
DeleteI like your frozen bubbles.
ReplyDeleteLovely to see the beautiful colours of the female King Parrot.
Wow! That sunset was glorious.
May the week with physio and your specialist appointments go well, thinking of you.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: I had a beautiful day didn't I? And thank you.
DeleteOh the incredible frozen bubbles are back! So 'naturally' you 'went out' made me laugh as well as shudder. I hope you get all the answers you need at your appointment EC, thinking of you
ReplyDeleteKim: Unlike someone not very far away I didn't lie down on that cold hard ground (though I came close). Thank you. I hope to get answers and an action plan.
DeleteSpectacular is the rigth word here. I am impressed that those parrots can handle the cold - why don't we have parrots as well?
ReplyDeleteMany well wishes and fingers crossed for your upcoming appointments!
Charlotte (MotherOwl): We have lovely birds all year round - for which I am grateful. As I am for your well wishes. Spectacular was the only word I could think of when I saw that sunset. I am so glad I was looking out at the right time since it didn't last long.
DeleteHurrah for the bubbles! I look forward to this post each year. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so surprised the parrots come out in the cold! What a gorgeous fella!
Rosey: Thank you. The parrots are with us all year, though they often disappear for a while in breeding season.
DeleteThank you for the sunset, the colours, the bubbles and the joy. It's good to be not quite sane in some ways. Here's wishing the very best for the doc visit. May all go well with you.
ReplyDeleteNilanjana Bose: Colour and joy are a universal need aren't they? And thank you. Doctor's visit this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
DeleteBeautiful shots as always EC, I am always astonished at your wild parrots, their colours are so incredibly vivid. And the bubbles are remarkable.

Wisewebwoman: We spend a LOT of time watching the birds. And count it time well spent.
DeleteI love your colorful photos, especially the parrot, something I never see in Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteThat’s Gigi Hawaii
ReplyDeleteGigi Hawaii: I am a bit surprised that you don't see parrots. I am sure you do see other birds I would love.
DeleteWhat lovely pictures!! I'm assuming you live in the southern hemisphere for it to be so cold right now? It's summer in the northern hemisphere where I live!
ReplyDeleteJess: Definitely the southern hemisphere. I am a first generation Australian. Enjoy your summer - though the reported temperatures have me shuddering.
DeleteIncredible skies, loving the frosty bubbles and that King Parrot is very handsome. I wish you a wonderful week :)
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you for your always up beat comments
DeleteYou finally got some "bubble weather" - hooray! The king parrot and glowing skies are a lovely reward, too. (Still keeping my fingers crossed for your upcoming medical "adventures".)
ReplyDeleteDiane Henders: I did indeed have a delightful day. The medical adventures just got a whole lot more imperative.
DeleteUh-oh. That doesn't sound good. Crossing my fingers harder...
DeleteWhat a fabulous collection of photos! And I love when you show us the bubbles and shells. Have an easy winter dear friend Aloha to you, and thank you so much for your kind visits that mean so much
ReplyDeleteCloudia: I don't know whether I like the bubbles or the shells more. And thank you for your inspirational posts.
DeleteBlowing bubbles in winter - I love it. I might try that myself. Great sky photos.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
I am still so very jealous at the variety and beauty of the avian population you enjoy.
