A little while ago I put up a short video of corellas grooming. Unfortunately, not everyone could view it. Yesterday afternoon what I assume were the same pair came and assumed the position on the same tree branch. This time we only took still shots.

ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: I hadn't thought about lice as they are strict vegetarians but you could well be right. You are certainly right about the dexterity. And the gentle way they can (if they so chose) use quite impressive weaponry.

I'll add my cries of "beautiful!" and "lucky!" to the chorus. I saw a mated pair of tropical birds in a New Orleans aquarium once - not sure if they were parrots or some other large bird of that sort (not a bird expert here!) but the sign said they were of advanced age. They were perched atop a branch oblivious to all the human milling about below - grooming and nuzzling each other in perfect contentment. Who said birds have no feelings? These pairs can teach us humans quite a bit it seems...
ReplyDeleteTwo Tigers: I am not at all certain whether they are a pair or whether it is a parent child relationship. Anthromorphism or not, I think that their affection for each other is obvious. And yes, we could learn a lesson or three.

ReplyDeleteI am so ignorant of birds that it's a little embarrassing, but I always wondered why some people are so fascinated by them and others aren't.
ReplyDeleteSnowbrush: I am not sure where the avian obsession started, but it does seem to be huge; in this household and the blogosphere more generally. It sometimes needs delicate juggling with the cats though.
