This week I am continuing to put up photographs of street art. I am still in the same small bit of town as last week.
There was originally a third reader, but it was vandalised by an oxygen thief or thieves. I am not certain when or whether it will be repaired. |
I remember there being some great art near the National Gallery as well, especially that gorgeous suspended ball that changed colour when you looked at it from different angles. I will have to try and find my photos of when we visited and maybe post them next week in Sunday Selections. I am also loving the autumn trees in your photos. xxx
ReplyDeleteKakka: I loved that ball at the National Gallery. Sadly it got hit by lightening and shattered. There is a new orb up there now, but I don't think it is as good. Canberra does Autumn well.
DeleteI hope the lost reader is repaired and restored some day. I have fantasies of that sort stepping off curbs and being hit by a bus.
ReplyDeleteJoanne: I would like him restored as well. Your fantasy sounds closer to a nightmare.
DeleteI still like the trees best!
ReplyDeleteStrayer: And you will notice that there are more trees this time - just for you. And me. And any other people who think they are a work of art.
DeleteWow! Great art pictures, and then interspersed gorgeous trees! Totally cool art... thanks for sharing it with me. :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you.
DeleteLove the arty photo selection for today.
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying seeing such different pieces of art. I'm curious about the one that looks like a huge coiled snake - do you know anything about it? (2nd and 3rd photos)
ReplyDeleteAlso any of the rest that you care to expand on :)
jenny_o: I am suffering from brain death today. I have several facts in my head about these artworks and I think they are completely unreliable. I will check when I am in town on Thursday and report back.
DeleteI do know that the snake coils are filled with rocks.
Thank you, but I didn't mean to make more work for you! I thought as it was a photo post you might have known the details but simply didn't include them.
DeleteNow that you've pointed it out, I can see the rocks inside those coils.
Awesome snaps again this week!! As Jenny said - what is the snake thing?? It looks cool... I love your autumn trees too!!
ReplyDeleteOne Too Many: Thank you. I will report back. The trees are a delight. Canberra does Autumn and Spring very, very well. I also like the bare bones in Winter.
DeleteBonza photos, i especially like the photos of the mural and colours of the autumn trees, here's hopeing the third reader is returned soon as the other readers look lost without him :-).
ReplyDeleteWindsmoke: The mural was on both sides of a fairly unattractive service alleyway - I loved the dragons though and had a fine time snapping away. Hopefully that third reader will come home again.
DeleteI love street art. Even the stuff that makes me stop and say, "really? why?", because it made me stop.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the third reader is getting another book from the library, he'll be back when he finds a good one.
toushka lee: What a marvellous reason for the absence of the third reader. Thanks.
DeleteI'm enjoying your street art selections very much. Some of those painted murals/graffiti are excellent. Like the otheres, i think that the trees are still the best art of all :)
ReplyDeleteAlexia: No arguments here - I love the trees.
DeleteLove the Reader - shame about the third one disappearing though. And that snake sculpture is cool too.
ReplyDeleteLadyFi: Thank you. Hopefully the third reader will be replaced.
DeleteI am always shooting wall art. It is probably my fave thing to shoot. I love the "snake" coil.
ReplyDeleteCrack You Whip: I think public art is wonderful. Even the ones that make me scratch my head. I am fond of the snake too. And the readers.
DeleteThe two readers have it for me. Shame about the third one. But I could enthuse about all these.
ReplyDeleteDave King: They are just so engrossed in their books aren't they? Real charm.
DeleteI'm amazed at the variety of street art in your area - all in the "same small bit of town" too. They make for very interesting photo subjects.
ReplyDeleteRon Dudley: Both today's selection and last weeks were in an area of perhaps two blocks. Each corner had a new treat, and teamed with the autumnal foliage it was simply lovely to wander around.
DeleteI love the readers!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the stone statues too.
The autumn colours in the trees are great. I was in the foothills here today and saw some amazing colour, but it was raining a little so I didn't get the camera out.
River: You do get some amazing colour your way as well. Send some of that rain up here please.
DeleteWonderful, interesting street art.
ReplyDeleteStarting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: Thank you.
DeleteWhat a fabulous part of town to walk around in...I love those lighted little droopy cones and all the people statues. I just want to sit down beside the guy with the hat.
ReplyDeletemybabyjohn/Delores: You do see people leaning up against, sitting on various bits of public art - which I love.
DeleteLove those readers but they're all pretty good. Makes a big difference to public spaces if art and sculptures are chosen wisely.
ReplyDeleteKath: Sadly there are still people about who think that these art works are a waste of money.
DeleteThat molten nail-rope thing is pretty darned neat...
ReplyDeleteJohn Wiswell: For reasons I can't put my finger on, I have a weakness for that one too.
DeleteMy top three: the readers (awful that it was vandalized), the light things and of course the gorgeous coloured trees :-)
ReplyDeleteCarolina: The trees seem to be a winner this week - which of course they are. And I love the art and the trees together - natural art and created art - a place for both.
DeleteI love interesting art installations like those. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteLynn: They are a treat each time I see them. I am glad that you enjoyed them too.
DeleteThank you. I think my favourite (though it was hard to choose) are the white conical tusky things. I have been making some very similar shapes out of southern ice porcelain but mine are only about the size of your thumb.
ReplyDeleteKim: They are not only white. Sometimes they have pink light beneath them, or yellow, or blue. I have not yet worked out whether it changes with the time of the day or is random.
DeleteLove the first one. Who could make off with one of those guys?
