Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River.
Like River, I generally run with a theme. Essentially this week I am running with not one but three of my obsessions. Click on the photos to embiggen.
Riot Kitty is not a fan of birds, so I am going to post other beauty in the sky for her. The first is Tuesday's sunset, and the second yesterday's dawn (and yes, I did rush out to do the dressing gown dance again).
All Consuming commented on my last post that she likes the small and delicate daffodils best. I don't think they come much smaller and more delicate that this...

And I am also featuring an Eastern Rosella again. These delightful little birds brighten each and every day when they come to visit. They are low on the pecking order, but still manage to do quite nicely (this one is enjoying pieces of green apple).
I didn't know where to look first...such beautiful colour saturated photos.
ReplyDeleteDelores: There is a LOT of colour in my world - and I welcome it.
DeleteIt's Sunday there? It is early Sat here! Getting ready for a soccer game.
ReplyDeleteThat bird made my heart leap!
Sending you Sunday Love, S. Xxxoo
My Inner Chick: Sunday it is. I posted this a bit before six. I hope your soccer game went well.
DeleteAnd yes, the eastern rosellas make my heart leap (and sing) too.
Dawn! I am impressed because I know you have to get up before sunrise. This is lovely.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon. No virtue in it. My eyes just open early. It is a treat though...
DeleteWow, we live so far away that it isn't Sunday here yet! It's still the 31st, Saturday evening. I'm literally in another time. I see the daffy now and it's very pretty indeed and not one I've seen before either, so thank you for that dearie, and for all the wonderful skies too. x
ReplyDeleteAll Consuming: It is not a daffodil I had ever grown before - but I do hope it comes back next year. And I am glad that you enjoyed the skies.
DeleteAgain a wonderful collection of colourful photos, EC.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm going to have to take Riot Kitty aside; sit her down and try to get to the root of her problem; her dislike of birds! Perhaps she was taken to see Hitchcock's "The Birds" when she was a little girl and that outing ruined her for life! ;)
I love birds. Because I throw out meat trimmings from my two cats' meat, I have a lot of birds that congregate around my cabin...they have their own sentry posts and shifts...keeping an eye out for any signs of movement. They also benefit from any fruit that has gone off a bit...as I chop that up and toss it out to them as well...so all eating habits are covered...no one misses out! It's called "Meals on Feathers"!
They are not dependent upon me - and I wouldn't want them to be - but I do love having them about. Every afternoon around what the birds consider to be time for their last supper before heading off to their respective bedrooms, a kookaburra always perches on a post out from my kitchen window...and there he sits, spying on me through the window - waiting!
Have a wonderful Sunday, EC. :)
Lee: I do envy you the kookaburra. It is while since I have seen one close to home, and I have a weakness for them. Well for all birds.
DeleteAnd no, Riot Kitty doesn't have to like birds. I just feel a bit guilty for inflicting them on her so often.
And a wonderful Sunday to you too.
Sure, I know, EC. I was just kidding around...we all have our likes and dislikes, EC. I can't stand snakes...I hate snakes!
DeleteHow strange that the kookas aren't about down your way at the moment. I've a family of them here. They are wonderful creatures
Lee: I am not good about snakes either. In one of our homes a red-bellied black lived under the front steps. I only used the back door for about nine months of the year.
DeleteAnd yes, I knew you were joking. But I do feel guilty about posting something so often that someone doesn't like... Even though others do. I would like to please everyone, knowing it isn't possible.
I love birds too, and this fellow is wonderfully coloured. I like a sunrise picture - so thank you for making your early start for Riot Kitty's sake - but I'll happily look at any and all bird and flower photos you post!
ReplyDeleteI see you've now read Flight Behaviour - what did you think?
Alexia: I loved Flight Behaviour. It reminded me of Prodigal Summer, which I also loved. Though most of her books are marvellous. I give them as gifts often, and sent multiple copies of 'Animal, Vegetable, Miracle' around the world.
DeleteAll looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteThen that psychedelic bird! Wow!
Aloha
Cloudia: The Eastern Rosellas always make me think of budgies on steroids - and I love them.
DeleteI do love the Eastern Rosella. So bright and beautiful! Would love to have them in my garden.
ReplyDeleteWendy: They often come to visit us, and we feel very, very privileged. What amazes me is how well camoflagued they are in the grass when they have their heads down.
DeleteLove love love them all. and that daffodil is especially sweet. I've never seen one like that before.
ReplyDeleteLetting the Words Escape: It is a cutie isn't it?
DeleteThank you for the beautiful pictures of the Eastern Rosella. What a beautiful bird - so colorful. It must be a joy to have him/her visit your yard. Our birds aren't half as colorful.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: They are enchanting birds. That is a male, the female has the same colours but they are more muted. And I suspect your birds have MUCH nicer voices than ours. Most of our native birds are very far from musical.
DeleteSpring! isn't it wonderful to suddenly have bright flowers and some sun. Birds are flying miracles, that they survive at all against all their challenges. and they are funny. swinging upside down from honey flowers, pushing and shoving when I put out treats. I feel lucky to have them around.
ReplyDeleteAnn ODyne: Snap. They are feathered enchantment and I feel so very lucky when they visit. All of them.
DeleteThese pictures all make me smile. First, the colors in the sky, and then the colors in that beautiful bird! Munching on an apple, it all makes me happy to see it all, thinking of you, and sending you such love.
ReplyDeleteDJan: Thank you. For some reason the apples have to be green. The birds will eat red apples, but make it clear that they are second best. I hope that you got to leap from a plane this weekend. Which I find a scary, but fascinating concept...
DeleteI love the Eastern Rosella, he's so colourful!
ReplyDeletePossibly the most colourful of all the Rosellas.
Is that little daff a hoop daffodil?
River: Yes, it is a hoop daffodil. And has no scent so you might even be able to plant them.
DeleteAnd the Eastern Rosellas are beautiful. The Crimsons rival them in the colourful stakes though - and I love them both. And the Rainbow Lorikeets which we rarely get. And the Superb Parrots, ditto.
Happy first day of spring to you EC.
ReplyDeleteLove sunsets and enjoyed your dawn picture as I am NEVER up that early.
That daffodil is very special and I hope it visits you again next spring.
The rosella is spectacular. You never see rosellas in Perth suburbs. Not sure where our western rosellas hang out but I suspect further down south somewhere.
Thanks again for sharing some wonderful photographs.
Hope things on the home front are on the improve for both the SP and yourself.
Mimsie: Thank you. I am an early bird - and at the moment the skinny one frequently gets me up in the smaller hours (well before sparrow fart). There are benefits though. He is getting a tiny bit better on the digestion front but the poor possum now has an abscess on a tooth. He is not having any luck at all. None.
DeleteI wonder why you don't get rosellas? Weird.
I checked up on Western rosellas and am told they are to be found in the South-west if eucalypt forests and timbered areas so it seems they don't frequent settled areas or perhaps come up as far as Perth.
DeleteI am so glad to learn the SP is a tad better in one direction but an abscess on a tooth is unbelievable and they often can't do a lot about it until the abscess subsides. I once did have a tooth removed as it was the type of abscess that was permanent, whatever that means. My thoughts are there with both of you.
Mimsie: If your rosellas need forests it might explain why they largely stay away from the settled areas. A permanent abscess!!! I didn't know that such a horror existed. And I won't tell the skinny one either (or he would feel obliged to develop one)>
DeleteEC, a dentist can prescribe antibiotics for an abscess and then take care of the tooth after the infection is under control ... I have just had this done and know how painful it is (I thought it was my sinuses as a very similar pain last year had turned out to be a sinus infection)... good luck to SP and you on all fronts here!
Deletejenny_o: He has been to the dentist and has the antibiotics. Next appointment later this week. He still looks like a chipmunk and is having trouble eating - which means his digestive issues have (for the moment) quietened down. Which is the silver lining...
DeleteThat is the most colourful bird I have ever seen! That is a bird that even Riot Kitty must admit is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBirdie: Isn't he gorgeous?
DeleteWhat a stunning little bird!
ReplyDeleteSusan Kane: We smile every time he or his wife come to visit. Smile rather a lot.
Deletehe's so colorful
ReplyDeleteAdam: He is such a pretty boy...
DeleteGosh! the Rosella photographs have come out well. Ours are a little too quick for my camera, and a little too flighty... even through the window. Thanks for these.
ReplyDeleteChristine: They are quick aren't they? I don't know how many headless rosellas I have captured on camera. These were taken through our lounge-room window, but the lure of the apple was strong.
DeleteI am doing some oohing and ahhing myself here :) Your photos are a delight. Those Rosella's are so colorful!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Thank you. I/We spend a lot of time trying to capture our avian visitors. And even more time just watching them.
DeleteI WANT THAT BIRD. He can sit on my shoulder. I'll hug him and name him Fred. GORGEOUS!
ReplyDeleteNow, because of you, I've put up a new post. I'll be waiting to see if you show up. *ahem*
lotta joy: Isn't he a HONEY? His wife is nice too (just a little more subdued/discreet). And I went over to your place BEFORE I responded to this comment. So there.
DeleteI am SO entranced by your second image - dawn. It stirred something within. I don't know why. I wish I could dive into THAT atmosphere, and fly in the sky above the ranges. What absolute beauty.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you, "dance in your dressing gown", EC. So glad :D
That is one of the most fragile daffs I've ever seen. So pretty.
And, I always smile when I see your birds. Especially the Easterns, as we don't get them here.
Thank you :)
Vicki: Our dawns are usually (as this one was) galah coloured. Soft beautiful (and much quieter than the galahs). And no matter how wound up I am, dawn lets me breathe again. Not as dramatic as most sunsets, but soooooo calming.
DeleteHaha, thanks for the shout out! I should say, I do like birds of prey but not annoying, noisy, poop all over everything types of birds. Anyhow, great photos as always. I keep thinking you must live in the rainforest.
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: I have a weakness for the raptors too, but they don't come to us and I don't get to them. They are stunning though. And, since I have spent considerable time today (and yesterday) scrubbing the veranda I do understand your feeling about bird crap. Fool that I am, I still welcome the smaller birds.
DeleteThe magical skies, the tiny daffodil, the Eastern Rosella; put them together and you get something like paradise!
ReplyDeleteCarol: This is a very nice place to live. And, not being fond of crowds, I find myself glad that Canberra has such a scummy reputation.
DeleteWhat a cheerful bird indeed. Such a nice name it has too. Beautiful pictures of the bird. Do they visit in the mornings?
ReplyDeleteAnil P: Welcome. They usually visit just after dawn - but have taken to dropping in (for some apple) in the early afternoon too.
DeleteI love the flower and the sky but I love the birds the most!
ReplyDeleteMia McPherson: Funnily enough I am not surprised. They are gorgeous aren't they?
DeleteHi EC One of my favorite Australian birds for colour.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson: They are a very pretty bird and, unlike many of our birds, their voices aren't grating either.
DeleteOh I do love your photos. The colours lure me in. The birds are very beautiful. And Penny is wanting to play with the birds. Get away from the screen, Penny! :) Low on the "pecking" order....nah!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend was peaceful and positive for you and your loved ones.
Gary
Gary Phillip Pennick: I don't think that Penny wants to play with the birds any more than Jazz n Jewel want to play with the birds. And she would play nicer too.
DeleteMy weekend was pretty good - and I hope yours is treating you kindly.
WOW! Now that is one colorful bird! Beautiful sunset and dawn also!
ReplyDeleteTeresa: And if I wore those colours people would try and tell me that they didn't go together....
DeleteImagine seeing those gorgeous birds on a regular basis, oh my! From nearly four thousand miles away I am getting really encouraged to buy and plant bulbs as soon as I get home purely because of you, dear EC, let's see if the enthusiasm is still there when I am back in Michigan!
ReplyDeleteGillie: Plant the bulbs, plant the bulbs. (Evil laughter - I would love to see someone else addicted).
DeleteAnd yes, those birds (and all of the others) help brighten each and every day.
Images to blow one away -- totally gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDave King: Thank you - I am so grateful for the beauty in my world.
DeleteA splendid selection;
ReplyDeleteI see you couldn’t stay away from birds for long though.
Never mind, these are gorgeous.
Friko: My obsessions drag me back, time after time after time...
DeleteOmg, those birds are dazzling! I love those colors! They must be low on the pecking order because the other birds are envious.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: The King Parrots are also beautiful, and also on the wimpy side. The Crimson Rosellas are gorgeous - and very feisty. I will have to think about the jealousy issue...
DeleteWhat cheerful-looking, colourful birds! Nothing close to these in Canada! I like the thought of you dancing in the dawn ... in your dressing gown :)
ReplyDeletejenny_o: On organised days I am dressed. And of course the spectacular dawns don't happen on those days...
DeleteLovely skies, lovely birds.
ReplyDeleteMerle...........
Merlesworld: Thank you.
DeleteThose birds are delightful!
ReplyDeleteladyfi: They are. Each and every day.
DeleteOh, those birds are just stunning. How lucky you are, to have those tropical beauties visiting you! Do they also sound pretty?
ReplyDeleteDebora: They are gorgeous. They are not tropical birds - we are a long way from the tropics but are a constant joy. And their voices are much more pleasant than many of our birds too.
DeleteThat must be so amazing to have such brightly colored birds around. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLynn: It is a joy.
DeleteStunning. They brighten our very skies. BEAUTIFUL.
ReplyDeletewordsfallfrommyeyes: They brighten the sky, they brighten my world...
