Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.
The meme is now continued by River at Drifting through life. The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to River. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
Like River I usually run with a theme. On Thursday afternoon I came home from Lifeline tired, emotionally bruised and physically sore. I sat down with the fixed intention of doing nothing until an early wine o'clock, dinner and bed.

Like River I usually run with a theme. On Thursday afternoon I came home from Lifeline tired, emotionally bruised and physically sore. I sat down with the fixed intention of doing nothing until an early wine o'clock, dinner and bed.
And then the sky started to blaze. Camera in hand I was out the door in a heartbeat.
When I came back inside I was still tired, still bruised, still sore. Wearing a smile which threatened to split my face.
SPECTACTULAR SHOTS SUE.
ReplyDeleteMargaret Adamson: It was a spectacular sky.
DeleteHard to feel bad surrounded by so much beauty. What time is wine o'clock for you? I try to hold off until at least five though wine for me is when it is cool outside. Gin and tonic or a cold beer for these hot days
ReplyDeleteSue in Italia/in the Land of Cancer: Five(ish) generally. Sometimes later, rarely earlier. Gin and tonic I enjoy occasionally. Beer? Bleah.
DeleteWhat a pleasure too enjoy these skies with you! Great job of conveying space and time elapsed, for these are shows in the sky.

=^..^=
Cloudia: It was swiftly moving magic.
DeleteI am so glad you are taking care of yourself in such trying circumstances. Love the sunset pictures, and did you know that "wine o'clock" has just made it into the dictionary? :-)
ReplyDeleteDJan: I did indeed know that wine oclock has been added to the dictionary. And felt a little avant garde.
DeleteI must have missed a post because I do not know what Lifeline is. What is it that left you in such a bad way?
ReplyDeleteBirdie: Lifeline is the telephone crisis centre I volunteer with. Last week I talked to some people who were hurting badly. So very badly.
Deletewhat a beautiful sunset. I'm so pleased it brightened your spirits.
ReplyDeletekylie: I often find solace in nature. Solace, healing and delight. And that sunset qualified on all three counts.
DeleteJust when you think it can't get any better, the sky becomes even more spectacular.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: Yes. And my hypocritical self would sniff and say 'exaggerated' if I saw those colours in a painting...
DeleteBut the sunset was determined to raise your spirits and alter your mood - and from the photos above, it succeeded!
ReplyDeleteI hope the week ahead treats you kindly, EC...cuddles to "those who must be obeyed"! :)
Lee: It did both of those things. Being a beauty addict pays dividends. I hope you and your furry overlords have a wonderful week.
DeleteOh my eyes:) Thank you for sharing that sky-speak. Such beautiful things it says:) Peace to you in the moving and being, friend.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a treasure.
-Jennifer
Jennifer Richardson: Sky-speak is always worth watching for isn't it? And paying attention to as well.
DeleteHugs.
Painted sky: So perfectly, gloriously captured. I'm in awe of the colours and textures, and hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteCarmi Levy: Almost a neon sky. Incredibly beautiful, incredibly fleeting. So very worth taking the time to revel in it.
Deleteso very beautiful! i love the clouds! hope you are feeling much better and that wine thirty came at a good time... with a good year, i hope!
ReplyDeleteThings Are Looking U.P: From memory the sky replaced wine oclock that night. And the wine wasn't missed.
DeleteWonderful shots, sometimes better to watch the darkening sky than TV.
ReplyDeleteMerle....................
Merlesworld: I would almost always rather watch the sky than the TV.
DeleteYou have the most amazing sunsets and sunrises!
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: We do. And are so very lucky.
DeleteSo glad the events of the day didn't narrow your focus EC, and you were treated with another brilliant sunset. I am guilty of just coming home and shutting it all out ~ and missing the bigger picture.
ReplyDeletecarolincairns: I am lucky that I can see the sky from most rooms of the house. Also lucky that I am easily distracted.
DeleteSuch a wonderful salve for the tired and battered soul! Really lovely.
ReplyDeleteAlexia: It was. Heart-balm.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky scapes. I'm with you on wine o'clock! I hope you have a restful weekend.
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: I have done waaay too much in the garden and my hips are shrieking at me. It was productive, but I have stopped now, and will veg out for the rest of the day. I hope.
DeleteYour sunsets are MUCH prettier than mine!!
ReplyDeletefishducky: Our vary, but this was a joy. A perfectly timed joy.
DeleteWhat a beautiful sunset... just what you needed after your long and troubling day. I hope that it bought you some comfort.
ReplyDeleteCountryMum: It was a joy and a delight - and did bring me comfort. Lots of it.
DeleteBeautiful sky and pictures. While they all are great, the first one really took me in. I'm not sure why it was more powerful for me. I will have to think on this a while. Have some good rest....
ReplyDeleteBookie: I was in love with all of them - but can so understand why one spoke to you. Let me know if you work out why.
DeleteUber-spectacular, Sue! Great job capturing it all.
ReplyDeleterhymeswithplague: Thank you. It was a gift.
DeleteAWESOME shot!! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteTerri @ Coloring Outside the Lines: Thank you - and to you.
DeleteWhat beauty! The clouds look like several colours of whipped cream being stirred together ... until the last photo, which is so unusual with the band of pink above the horizon. Well done with the camera - and with making the effort to capture the beauty and lift your spirits. Not everyone can recognize a gift when they see it, but you do that over and over.
ReplyDeletejenny_o: The pink speed stripe was something I only caught at the last moment. It was in the opposite direction to the main display - and I loved it.
DeleteOh! That explains it! I never thought of that. A very unique sky in that one.
Deletejenny_o: Wasn't it? Such a treat.
DeleteAnd, may I add, inspire me to try to do the same ...
ReplyDeletejenny_o: I am a beauty addict, and easily distracted. And my memory is shot. All of which help me focus on the pluses in life.
DeleteThe sky is phenomenal! Your words, your pictures, your experience just show how nature is such a great healer - over and over again.
ReplyDeleteCarola Bartz: Oh she is. And I am so very grateful.
DeleteI'm so jealous of your blazing skies, I'm too close to the city and all other buildings, by the time I notice sunset colours it's usually a half a minute from disappearing altogether.
ReplyDeleteI love the 8th photo down, with that liquid gold edging the cloud on the left.
I can imagine your happy smiling sighs after seeing such a spectacular sky.
River: We are lucky. The city is a considerable distance away, and we overlook a valley. And the sunrises and the sunsets are frequently a joy. And that one was a healing joy. And produced a huge smile.
DeleteI never tire of your sunsets they are spectacular
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: Good. I never tire of them, but I don't want to bore people either.
DeleteYou get some dazzling sunsets, EC. I think the sky had some wine before bed too.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I love the thought of a boozed up sunset. Thank you. Smiling broadly here.
DeleteSo beautiful. And to see something like that would be healing!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!
Yolanda Renee: It was beautiful, and soothing. Solace in the sky.
DeleteStunning!
ReplyDeleteJ Cosmo Newbery: Oh it was. Fleeting, and amazingly beautiful.
DeleteThat was one awesome sky to run to with camera in hand. Beautiful photos. Great job. The last one wanted to start the storyteller in me.
ReplyDeleteTeresa
T Powell Coltrin: I hope that the pink speed stripe does germinate a story for you. And would love to read it.
DeleteBetter than any wine o'clock! You manage to capture such vivid colors in a camera. My sunset photos always come out looking a little muddy and not what I really saw at all. Thank you for sharing them with us!
ReplyDeleteRiver Fairchild: I know what you mean about muddy photos. I have junked more than a couple of them myself. Much more than a couple.
DeleteThese are amazing. No wonder you were smiling when you came home. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMason Canyon: They were taken from the front of our home, so I didn't have far to go at all. Which is just as well. Sunsets don't last.
DeleteI love a pink sky at sunset. How lovely that you captured it.
ReplyDeleteStarting Over, Accepting Changes - Maybe: I love them too. Always. And have rather a lot of sunrise and sunset photos stored on the hard drive.
DeleteNow that sky is gorgeous, lucky you to capture it, never to be lost, never to be seen exactly like that again..
ReplyDeletewhiteangel: Ephemeral magic. Changing second by second. And gone in under ten minutes.
DeleteI do love a good sunset. Lovely pics :)
ReplyDeletemshatch: Thank you. I love them too. And the sky in whatever her mood.
Deletethose are some freaky skies.
ReplyDeleteR. Mac Wheeler: Which of your characters would be most at home under them?
DeleteOh my I'd be grabbing my camera and heading out the door with skies like that as well. What a story the sky is screaming for all of us as well, thanks to your lovely shots.
ReplyDeleteKaren S.: I do a lot of camera grabbing. And am rarely disappointed. With my shots yes, but not with whatever it was that had me heading out.
DeleteI'm the same way. Especially right now, I'm storing up for our approaching winter, it's what gets me through it!
DeleteKaren S.: It is our summer which I dread... but like you, I hoard images and memories as an antidote.
DeleteWow! Such beautiful sight. I'm in awe...
ReplyDeleteNas: Nature puts on a spectacular show doesn't she?
DeleteLovely sunset and the camera makes the smile on the lips and mind refreshed even how to feel sad or tired (I want to think so).
ReplyDeleteStunning photos, it was good you went to outside.
Have a happy new week.
orvokki: Thank you. I was very, very pleased I went out.
DeleteWOW! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteTeresa Hennes: It was. So very beautiful.
DeleteGorgeous! Nature heals, if not the body...the soul.
ReplyDeleteKaren: Definitely heart balm and solace. I hope your body is treating you a bit more kindly at the moment...
DeleteI've just returned from the States, and we had some beautiful sunsets over there, but I didn't capture any of them on camera, mainly because I was too lazy, but you did well. They look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLL Cool Joe: Thank you. From a photographer of your calibre that is high praise.
DeleteLovely hues in these sky shots. Painterly inspiration.
ReplyDeleteVicki: I am sure it would be. Another talent I don't possess.
DeleteThose are amazing pictures. I love how much promise they hold, at least that's what they represent to me. :)
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: Promise, mystery, wonder...
DeleteI love catching the colourful luminescence of the skies reflected in the watery calm of the seas - especially when out for a walk along the bay.
ReplyDeleteSpacerguy: There is no water close to me, and the ocean is several hours away but yes. The sky over water is always incredible.
DeleteThose are amazing pictures.
ReplyDeleteKelly Steel: Thank you. It was an amazing sight to see.
DeleteI am a fan of cloud pics! No joke. I have many on my phone ;)
ReplyDeleteTammy Theriault: I have lots and lots and lots of folders full of cloud pictures. And sunrises. And sunsets...
DeleteWow - those skies are just gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteladyfi: Weren't they?
DeleteThose skies would certainly be a tonic, they are to me just looking at these amazing photos.
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Oh it was...
DeleteLovely lovely lovely skies. The sun going to bed with a lovely coloured blankie....
ReplyDeleteShammickite: Lovely way of putting it. We should all have a blankie that pretty. And soft...
DeleteI love looking at clouds on fire!
ReplyDeleteJono: Clouds on fire, weeping clouds, threatening clouds, soft fluffy clouds... Love them all.
DeleteThank you for sharing that glorious sight, EC.
ReplyDeleteRawknrobyn: My pleasure.
DeletePlease, please, please publish a book of your pictures. I honestly could stare at all of them for days. I just love the sky pictures.
ReplyDeleteSonya Ann: You do say the nicest things. Thank you.
DeleteI'm so glad that beautiful sky lifted your spirits. I admire you for doing that most valuable work. I imagine it must be bruising.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the photos - just gorgeous.
Lynn: Sometimes it is bruising. Always worth while though. And my pain is a fraction of the pain of our callers...
DeleteSo pretty! I'd love to see something like that everyday, but alas light pollution :/
ReplyDeleteMadilyn Quinn: We are lucky here. Pollution is minimal. Largely because industry is also minimal. For which I am grateful.
DeleteVermillion shades of the sun, love it.
ReplyDeleteBob Bushell: So do I. Always.
DeleteOh I love it when the sky does that! Sadly I missed this one but knowing it caused you smiles is enough to know it was enjoyed thoroughly :-)
ReplyDeleteGeoffrey Dunn: Oh it was. Enjoyed to the max. When we put on a sunset show we don't pull any punches.
DeleteIs it meant to be this way...your new post dated today...I'm unable to pass comment on it...so I posted what I wanted to say to you on the WEP site.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, EC...I'm thrilled for you! :)
Lee: Thank you so much. I have seen and appreciated your comment at the WEP post.
DeleteComments will get turned on again here from tomorrow.
Stunning, heavenly Skies!
ReplyDeleteI want to swim inside the clouds! xx
My Inner Chick: My heart did. Hugs.
DeleteBetter tired and sore and smiling than frowning!
ReplyDeleteRiot Kitty: Yup. And they tell me it takes fewer muscles to smile as well. Energy conservation.
DeleteWe do live in such a beautiful world. I just finished reading the post of another blogger who reminded me that sometimes we appreciate the good more because of the bad. While I would prefer there was no "bad" - I think there is some truth in this.
ReplyDeleteIt seems nature provided you with a gift, after helping others deal with their pain.
Susan F.: I am a firm believer that we need the dark to see the light. And the light to illuminate the dark.
DeleteAnd that sky WAS a gift. A very welcome gift.
