Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files. Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.
The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life. Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.
The
rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent. Post some photos
under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Sorry I still
haven't succeeded in working out how to do a blog hop. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.
I usually run with a theme. This week is a bit same old. Sorry about that.
Starting with Charlotte (MotherOwl)'s colour of the month which is pebble grey. As a young thing my father often told me I was a clumsy klutz. He was right then and he is right now. FOUR weeks ago (to the day) I tripped over my shoes (which I had taken off and not put away) and fell hard. The bruise and the swelling are finally starting to go down and I think that some of the bruise qualifies as pebble grey.
And then to much prettier things.
The orchids I have shown you before continue to thrive.
However there are other orchids starting to flower as well. I planted a few of them several years ago and much to my delight they are spreading. And spreading.
There are multi-coloured iris coming out too.
I am going to finish off with some skyscapes - from the opposite end to the day to the ones I usually show.
I hope your week is fall free and packed with beauty. Next week I hope to take you to and inside a new sculpture that has recently been installed in my city.
There a Halloween theme for you. You limping on your bruised leg with hubby following you with a ball bat.
ReplyDeleteMike: He walks much faster than I do and wouldn't settle for walking behind me.
DeleteNadie está libre de una caída, Después de muchos años sin caerme, hace unos cuantos meses, que también me vi en el suelo, pero a eso se debió a un empujón que recibí de forma fortuita, de una señora que tenía bastante fuerza.
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo.
VENTANA DE FOTO: Thank you. Sadly I fall over quite regularly at the moment - which is part of the reason I have a physio session each week to improve my balance.
DeleteThe orchids are so pretty. Oh dang that bruise, I sure hope it is healing.
ReplyDeleteMary Kirkland: I though you would like the purple orchids in particular. The bruise and the swelling are better than they were - but taking their time.
DeleteThat looks painful! Glad you did not break anything.
ReplyDeleteSandi: I am glad too.
DeleteNow that is one heck of a bruise!
ReplyDeleteAlex J. Cavanaugh: I did a good job didn't I?
DeleteRiver Fairchild - oh no! I’m glad you’re healing up and nothing was broken. I’m laughing at the fact you’re studying the shading of your bruise to compare with color coding.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bounty of flowers and the evening skies are a wonder to behold.
Take good care of yourself, always put your shoes away, and give my homage to the furry overlords. Hugs to you always.
River Fairchild: I have been much better about putting my shoes away - after the horse bolted. I have an appointment this morning but hope to get into the garden again - challenging as it is for my wobbly self.
DeleteSo sorry about your flight through the air, but on the upside your leg is a lovely complement to the purple orchids.
ReplyDeleteMarty: You will be surprised to hear (not) that I prefer the orchids.
DeleteYou don't do a half good job when you bruise yourself.
ReplyDeleteI love your alternative coloured iris, especially the first one.
Andrew: That first iris is a beauty isn't it? For some reason the sulphur crested vandals attack those ever year. And yes, I did an excellent job didn't I?
DeleteNothing against your flowers and your sunsets, but please, my dear, mind the shoes.
ReplyDeleteThe peace of the night.
Sean Jeating: I will try and watch out for the shoes/put them away.
DeleteYour bruising is a concern called Ecchymoses. You should check out your platelet and coagulation profile. The skies are so fabulous
ReplyDeleteroentare: Medication I am on means my white blood cell count is high, but my blood is otherwise fine. Thank you re the skyscapes.
DeleteAbsolutely stunning orchids and irises and I hope your poor leg settles down soon
ReplyDeleteKim: Thank you. On both counts.
DeleteOh my! That bruise still looks very nasty, do take care.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers you've photographed all look lovely, and the colours are so nice to see. That's so good that some of the orchids have started to spread, you must be very pleased about that.
I like your sunset photographs here.
Have a good rest of the weekend and a happy and safe week ahead with no more trips/falls.
My good wishes.
All the best Jan
Lowcarb team member ~Jan: I am thrilled that the orchids are spreading. You have a great weekend too.
DeleteOh, no! What a bruise. :( Gentle hugs, E.C.
ReplyDeleteBea: It is a deep one but is finally starting to go down.
DeleteOh! My goodness! (And this is putting it politely!) That bruise is horrendous! Such a shock you must have gotten when you fell. It's so easy to do, and we must always do our best to avoid them. Sometimes that's easier said than done, sadly. Take very good care, EC. I'm sorry to learn this happened to you.
ReplyDeleteI hope the coming week treats you doubly well. My cuddles to Batty and Odie. :)
Lee: Sadly it was very easy to do - and my own fault. I will try and do better.
DeleteFour weeks and the bruise is just now beginning to disappear? That must have been a very hard fall to bruise so deeply, do you have some Arnica cream to massage into the bruises and swellings? I'm not a fan of orchids, thought they are lovely, the first ones you show here are the same colour as the ones my mum chose for my bridesmaids to carry.
ReplyDeleteRiver: I do like orchids but cannot imagine carrying a bouquet of them. The purple ones are small and a lovely splash of colour. I did land hard and the bruise is/was deep. I completely forget about arnica - and was a bit surprised to notice it was still there a few days ago.
DeleteGlad nothing is broken! Love your spring flowers.
ReplyDeleteJoanne Noragon: I am too - and do love spring.
DeleteThat was a bad fall/bruise, and I'm glad it was not worse for you.
ReplyDeleteYour garden is a delight and I really like the sunset photos.
My selections will be over here.
messymimi: I am really looking forward to your Sunday Selections - as I always do.
DeleteI fall over a lot these days--- my balance is messed up. But I'm old! Beautiful garden, beautifully captured.
ReplyDeleteBill: I hear you. I am going to weekly physio to try and improve my balance.
DeleteThe flowers are beautiful. Sky too.
ReplyDeleteYou did come a cropper then, hope it gets better quickly as that is a nasty bruise, EC.
Margaret D: Came a cropper is a phrase I haven't heard in years - and yes I did. The sky and the garden are a fine antidote though.
DeleteDear EC
ReplyDeleteOuch! That looks like it was very painful and it is so easily done too. I hope you are recovering now. Improving our balance sounds like a good idea for all of us as we age. Those orchids and irises are so beautiful, as are the sunsets.
Have a colour-filled week, but not through more bruises!
Best wishes
Ellie
Ellie Foster: My balance is not good, so I am working on it. And am falling over less often. I am delighting in the orchids and thrilled that they are spreading.
DeleteHi EC - that is one or two bruises ... how very unfortunate - but perhaps a lesson learnt - put things where they're meant to be. Take care - no more falls please. The orchids, iris and gardens are looking lovely ... while the sunset - always entices. I'm looking forward to a change of colour - pebble grey is distressingly sad!! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteHilary Melton-Butcher: Definitely a lesson learned. The hard way. Skyscapes and the garden are always a joy for me. I hope you have less grey days. Ours has started that way, but sunshine is predicted.
DeleteThat looks like a very nasty bruise, Sue. I hope it is improving by the day. I do (patting myself on the head) put my shoes away, but doubtless I will find other ways to hurl myself headlong. So far, so good, however!
ReplyDeleteDavid M. Gascoigne: I mostly put my shoes away - but mostly isn't good enough.
DeleteI fell UP the stairs once and bruised up like that. No fun at all, and I know you'll be glad when it's all healed up and back to normal! The flowers are pretty. I've always thought Orchids and Iris look like they could be cousins. Yours are flourishing and just gorgeous.
ReplyDeletemail4rosey: I have fallen up stairs before now. It is painful isn't it?
Deleteyikes, sorry about the fall, heal quickly; just when we are winding down for the season you are in full bloom. Are the orchids out of doors? amazing all of your flowers
ReplyDeleteLinda Starr: All of these plants are outside. I don't do well with indoor plants. I forget to water them or give them too much.
DeleteThe orchids are very pretty (and your bruise is not)! I love the little purple ones. The iris are gorgeous. My 15 yr old grandie Isaac works weekends at the iris garden next door to his house. He weeds iris all day! I'll post some iris photos, such stunning colour combinations.
ReplyDeleteShammickite: I look forward to seeing photos of the iris your grandie weeds. They do come in incredible colours don't they?
DeleteYikes! Your bruises may look better, but they still look painful. So sorry about your fall. It can happen so quickly. I recently was observing all the beautiful fall leaves and stepped on an acorn and went flying and falling down the sidewalk. I was bruised- but not as hurt as I was afraid I was going to be. I hope you keep feeling better.
ReplyDeleteLove all the beautiful pictures of flowers and sky. Just gorgeous!
DMS: Acorns are dangerous. Very, very dangerous. I am glad you got off relatively lightly - and yes, it happens very quickly indeed.
DeleteOuch, ouch, ouch! Your leg is a stunning example of modern art - here's hoping the vivid colours will fade soon. It always seems to hurt more when we take the blame for it, doesn't it? One of my friends expressed it perfectly the last time she hurt herself: "Agony and disgust!"
ReplyDeleteThank you for the gorgeous flower photos, and I wish you a long period of uneventful stability and "verticality".
Diane Henders: Disgust sums it up nicely. And did even as I was going down. Stability seems to be a long step at the moment, but verticality is definitely the aim.
DeleteOh my goodness, I am so glad you are recovering. That must still be very painful. I had that reputation as a child, and now as an adult truth be told. Your flowers are beautiful as always and those skies, so pretty. Heal quickly my friend!
ReplyDeleteDeniseinVA: Sadly clumsiness doesn't seem to be something we grow out of does it? I hope that both of us keep recovering. You have been carrying your latest injury for a while now.
DeleteOuch! I am so sorry! Beautiful photos.
ReplyDeletee: Thank you.
DeleteSky and flower pictures are wonderful, but oh my your bruising. That really looks nasty. Did you see the doctor? Seems too long to still be bruised. So sorry you're dealing with this and hope you feel better each and everyday.
ReplyDeleteSandy: No I haven't seen a doctor. It is getting better, but taking its own sweet time.
DeleteWonderful pictures.
ReplyDeletesnobe casamang: Welcome and thank you.
DeleteThese are all wonderful pictures, except for that first one, which evokes an "OW" from me still! Glad it's getting better.
ReplyDeleteDJan: I am finding more orchids every day. Bliss.
DeleteYou are not a clumsy klutz. We all have our falls and slip ups. Several years ago one of my older sisters fell over a dog sleeping on the floor and broke her leg. The flowers are beautiful, and I'm glad the bruise is improving.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Janie Junebug: You are kind. I am, sadly, clumsy. And have come close to tripping over the cats (Batty in particular) many times. I am enjoying the blooms and the bruise is definitely improving.
DeleteYikes, that must have been some fall. I tripped over my ill fitting pants up at a colony and ended with a bruised arm but nothing as spectacular as those bruises you have. I don't think I"ve seen orchids in a garden before. We had irises, growing up, in our yard. They looked a lot like the 4th and 5th iris photos you posted.
ReplyDeleteStrayer: I went down with a bang. I am glad our orchids thrive outside since I am not good with indoor plants. Iris come in a range of colours and I will undoubtedly weaken and get more.
DeleteGoodness, that leg looks nasty. I can only imagine what it looked like before it started to heal.
ReplyDeleteI am in awe of your orchids. Just beautiful. You are so lucky they are doing so well. I miss my irises. My neighbor killed mine when he put up that horrid fence in front. At least I can admire and appreciate yours.
Great sky shots, too.
Bleubeard and Elizabeth: I am blown away by how well the orchids are doing. I never thought that I would find a spot where they not only thrive but are spreading. I am sorry that you lost your iris and you are welcome to share mine (though it is not at all the same things as having them for yourself).
DeleteThat bruise looks bad and your pain must have been even worse. I love your flowers and am glad that you were able to plant them and even take photos of them.
ReplyDeletegigi-hawaii: It takes a lot to keep me out of the garden - and I should spend even more time out there.
DeleteThat’s a long time for a bruise! It must be sore. Hope it is better soon, EC.
ReplyDeleteThe orchids and irises are gorgeous!
Marie Smith: It is getting better, but is still there. Aren't the plants lovely? I have double poppies trying to come out too.
DeleteOh no. I am always knocking my elbows into things.. the pain shoots up my arm. Pretty flowers and sunset.
ReplyDeleteHena Tayeb: That is one of the worst places to knock yourself. Hitting yourself on the 'funny bone' isn't funny at all.
DeleteOh my gosh. You have my Iris (the burgundy). The orchids are gorgeous. I'm so sorry you took a fall. Besides the bruising, it just seems to jar the entire body and takes awhile to come back from, doesn't it? Sandra sandracox.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSandra Cox: I am being very careful at the moment. Isn't that burgundy iris a beauty. I do hope it spreads.
DeleteOn any given day it is possible to see the results of whatever extremity I have smacked into without realizing it until a shade of purple spreads all over it.
ReplyDeleteThis week you showed photos of the time of day I see most often. Beautiful as usual.
Anne in the kitchen: I always have bruises too. I often don't know when I did them or what on. I did know where I got this one from.
DeleteIf you put your shoes away you still might have fallen by some other quirk of fate so I wouldn't put too much ebergy into the regret. What a doozy, though. I hope there was lots of sympathy.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't possibly choose a favourite iris!
kylie: There was some sympathy - but not lots. I refuse to choose favourites in the garden - it would change with the day, the season, my mood...
DeleteLovely sky photos - as usual.
ReplyDelete:o)
Cheers
PM
Plastic Mancunian: I have lots and lots of skyscapes to choose from.
DeleteGreat flowers!
ReplyDeleteYour poor leg! What a time you must have had.
Jenn Jilks: I do love my garden - and that bruise was entirely my own fault.
DeleteI'm so sorry to read about the fall/bruise!
ReplyDeleteYour flowers and skyscapes always lift my spirits, thank you. Wishing you and fam a peaceful and wonderful November.
Nilanjana Bose: Thank you. I hope your November is packed with love and laughter.
DeleteOh my goodness. Ouch on the hard fall. I hope it's clearing up and healing Well. Huggs.
ReplyDeleteThe Happy Whisk: Thank you too. It is slowly getting better.
