Sunday Selections #489

Sunday Selections was originally brought to us by Kim, of Frogpondsrock, as an ongoing meme where participants could post previously unused photos languishing in their files.

Huge thanks to Cie who gave me this wonderful Sunday Selections image.

The meme was then continued by River at Drifting through life.  Sadly she has now stepped aside (though she will join us some weeks), and I have accepted the mantle.

The rules are so simple as to be almost non-existent.  Post some photos under the title Sunday Selections and link back to me. Clicking on any of the photos will make them embiggen.

I usually run with a theme. Australia was doing really well on containing Covid 19.  WAS doing really well.  Our complacency has bitten us firmly on the fundament.  Numbers and tensions are rising.

I am again mostly home, which is where all of this week's selections come from.

The first are early morning photos in the garden.  I seem to have settled into a routine and head out with the camera a little before first light, and again when dawn has arrived.

You will be shocked and surprised that I continue to delight in the visiting birds.

This pair of King Parrots visit us daily.  They are not tame, but are very used to us and their trust is a privilege.

The long-beaked corella is another regular visitor and Susan Kane bitches/moans/complains/expresses her displeasure any time I post birds without a corella or two.

This week we were delighted to see a much rarer visitor in the tree across the road.  Yellow-tailed black cockatoos fly over us from time to time but don't often land.  Naturally I rushed out with the camera as soon as I heard its distinctive call and realised it had landed so close.  Like so many of our native birds it is far from musical and you can hear its song HERE.

I hope your weeks are health, happy and filled with unexpected treats.

Sunday Selections #309

Like River I usually run with a theme.  This week?   I suppose it is a kind of a tribute to myself as a slow leaner.  All my life I have said I am not a terribly visual person.  Charts/graphs mean little to me.  I learn by reading rather than images.  However it has (finally) dawned on me that I spend my life looking at and for images.  I delight in changing light among other things.  And other minutiae.  So here are some of the things which have caught my eye recently.

The clouds came rolling in and it absolutely bucketed down briefly.  Very briefly.  I believe we had an inch of rain in less than half an hour.

After another storm later in the week I delighted in the light.  The road was steaming too.

I adore the architecture of spiders (you may need to embiggen to see their work).

And the sky.

The last two photos in that segment are reflections of the same sky.
And our avian visitors.

Not visual?  Colour me deluded.

And, in other news.  Himself has a significant birthday tomorrow.  We have too many 'things' and increasingly we give each other experiences as gifts.  Shared experiences.  For the past year I have been planning (and saving up for) an extravagant treat for himus.  We are heading off early this afternoon and will be back tomorrow afternoon.  I haven't yet told him about it, and hope he likes it as much as I expect.  Think big cats and luxury.  We both adore the big cats though I am probably the more luxury loving one of the two of us.  Photos will follow in the fullness of time.

Sunday Selections #115

Like River I generally run with a theme. Today there is just one photo.  I am currently weeding, weeding, weeding to make room for all the spring bulbs I bought (most of which have arrived).  Yesterday morning when I first went out I caught sight of this gem, glistening in the sun.  (And if it hadn't been highlighted by early morning sunshine I would have walked into it.)

This next item is a thank you to River who posted pictures of this solar spinner on her Sunday Selections a few weeks ago.  I  immediately wanted to buy it for the smaller portion.  Thanks to information given to me by River and Mimsie it arrived here earlier this week, and he loves it as much as I thought he would.

And here it is in the daytime, hanging from the pergola over our back deck.
